"one thing leads to another", "red skies", and " stand or fall" are your next fixx songs. vocalist and head songwriter cy currin wrote politically complex songs reflecting the cold war anxiety of the '80s. the fixx were an interesting band.
Fixx lead vocalist Cy Curnin reflected on its meaning in a 2008 interview: "It was about looking at your own life, not so much about amassing material things but about experiences that lend you to be blissful... The song was written from the point of view of the release you get when you have nothing left to lose."
interesting fact about the Fixx., they really didn’t make it in their home of England but did find success in the states . Another interesting fact is that they played as the back up band for Tina Tuners “ Better be good to me “. “Secret Separation” is my favorite Fixx song .
You guys did react to the Fixx already, maybe a year or so ago - you did "One Thing Leads To Another!'" That was probably their most popular song. They also had "Red Skies At Night" and "Stand Or Fall."
I turned 20 in 1983. The Fixx wrote songs that referenced the nuclear war we all thought was about to happen. Other bands like U2 wrote similar anthems. Combine that sentiment with movies like the TV event "The Day After" that fall and Red Dawn the next year. We were sure the cold war was about to really turn hot. I remember truly being afraid, expecting to hear sirens at any minute from an impending Russian missile attack.
I always thought Saved by Zero was about nuclear war with “Zero” referencing Ground Zero of a nuclear attack. Was I right then? Also, “The Day After” was partly filmed at the University of Kansas while I was going there in the Fall of 1982.
quite right, and their resurgence in popularity reflects the current threat level of Global Thermonuclear Warfare is at an all-time high since the 'collapse' of Soviet Union.
@@wiltchamberlainisthegoat13 I'm not even sure that Saved by Zero was a nuclear war song, "Red Skies" or "Stand or Fall" certainly were. Amazing that you were at KU when "They Day After" was filmed. As a UNC grad, certainly respect your username , the KU basketball program, and all the close ties between my alma mater, and yours, the mother program of all college basketball, but our NYC players did beat Wilt by one in 1957. How many times did you beat us in return?
@@robertelee63 I have tremendous respect for UNC basketball. I’ve always contended there are two GOATs in my opinion: “pre-modern” era, Wilt Chamberlain; “modern” era, Michael Jordan. In a sense, I say it’s a tie. Yes, I love the ties between the two schools: Dean Smith, Larry Brown, Roy Williams, and that wild 1957 National Championship game won by UNC by one point in 3OT. It’s crazy to think about how significant that game was. If Kansas had scored one more basket in triple OT, then UNC and Kansas would be tied with 5 NCAA Titles each. Instead, UNC leads 6 to 4. Who would have thought that one basket in 1957 could hold so much significance?
@@robertelee63 Regarding “The Day After”, they used Allen Fieldhouse in the movie as a place for survivors to be housed and looked after. I wish I had tried to be an extra in the movie. Unfortunately, I did not. It’s still the most-watched TV movie of all-time. A bunch of us got together to watch the movie. It was indeed scary and very impactful. President Reagan watched the movie and said it made him very sad and even influenced his talks with Mikhail Gorbachev. Now I’ve got to listen again to “Red Skies” and “Stand or Fall”. 😃 ☮️
The Fixx is a British Rock band, that had its greatest success during the 1980s. They had a number of hit sons and music videos in the US, such as “Stand Or Fall”, “Red Skies”, “Saved By Zero”, and”One Thing Leads To Another”. "red skies at night" is the fixx song that comes to mind first for me. Some of the others people mention, once they say the title I think, "oh yeah, that one too". Just off hand, if you r ever seen the video for Tina Turner's "better be good to me", the lead singer for the fixx is in it, just kinda hopping around. I've always wondered why, like did he write it and just did a bit in the vid? Maybe was just there guesting? Happened to be there doing something himself, visited and ended up in the vid?... Edit: I think the last time I thought about that was pre internet. Looked it up, interesting story.

The FIXX! Always on my Airline/Travel List! Thought for sure You Guys did them before. I was right! :) You Guys did 'One Thing Leads To Another' a Year Ago. One of My FAV Groups! :)
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen this video and I remember hearing this song during my Senior Year of high school or just after that. .. . I loved The Fixx and I never even considered what they looked like. Music videos were a brand new thing and most people didn’t have cable back then either.
That's what I keep saying, but it seems like most people DID have cable, at least judging by the number of people who seem to have seen all these videos. I had to get a satellite dish in '86 to finally even be able to see MTV, and didn't get cable until 2012!
This group always had a set of exustential lyrics with an interesting groove this is a great rabbit hole to go down with. Try Red Skies, Secret Separation, Stand or Fall, Outside...
Yes!!! Been wanting this for a while. Cy Curnin and Jamie West-Oram (guitar) were a key part of my early-80s experience. And they're still touring today! Many classics mentioned here. I have to vote for my favorite, "Deeper and Deeper", which sometimes gets overlooked because it was a movie soundtrack song. But it's killer!
Love this band! Deeper and Deeper (extended mix especially), Red Skies at Dawn, stand or Fall and One Thing Leads to Another are all incredible 80's songs. So glad you checked them out!
I havent heard this song or seen this video in AGES. I just knew the words "saved by zero" and was just intrigued by the visuals when I was a kid and this was on MTV constantly in '83. Thank you for unknowingly dusting this off my cerebral shelf and giving it a spin! And I'm with you guys, I wouldn't be able to tell you what its about without looking it up myself lol. Yall hall done "One Thing Leads to Another" from The Fixx last year. So not the first time yall hearing them. Lol. 😊 And both of yall liked it. Well, they were a good new wave, alternative rock band. Lot of new wave, synth pop, and post punk bands has good bass 🎸 guitars, synths, and dancy. Lot of it is moody and futuristic sounding too. Check out "Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies" from the later on too.
So glad you finally got around to The Fixx! “Are We Ourselves “ and “”Walkabout” are another couple of good ones but you really can’t go wrong with The Fixx!
Remember buying this album when it came out. Thanks for reacting! It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to them. Brings back a lot of memories! Wow!! Great album to check out!
I'm happy to see the younger generations discover these artists. When I was growing up, we researched music and movies many years prior to our birth to understand how we got to where we were. I don't see that same effort or ambition in other generations. Most are just into the decade they were born and forward.
This is my 2nd favorite song by The Fixx, my favorite is "One Thing Leads To Another"! That one is a little faster, with a message everybody gets. The Fixx were - - overlooked, haha!
This one takes me back. The Fixx have a few songs that are my favorites. This was the one that introduced me to their music. The bit at the end of the song with the low notes used to sound to me like the ominous presence of a black hole in outer space, but since then Danny Elfman used those notes for the opening to his Batman OST. More recently this song's been used a lot on a radio commercial. It's weird to describe something going on with radio in this day and age.
The Fixx isn't new to you guys. You already reacted to "One Thing Leads to Another", which I think is one of their best songs. They definitely fit right into the 80's.
This is the one that hooked me on them, though “One Thing or Another” (which I think you already reacted to) was their breakthrough hit. “Secret Separation” and ‘How Much is Enough?” are two other good ones at different points in their career. And they still tour. Hope to catch them in Portland.
Great song, you are right about the 'new wave' vibe, there were a lot of new wave rock groups in the 80's and they always had a fascinating sound. You have done their "One Thing Leads To Another" about a year ago. The singer and guitarist worked with TINA TURNER on the song "You Better Be Good To Me", check that out!
Back when MTV actually played music videos, I would watch while eating my cereal. They would play this song, and then would always follow it with Girls On Film. Checking out some good-looking Brits - Great way to start the day, if you ask me! Red Skies is probably my favorite by The Fixx.
The older I get...the more I realize how much time has passed. The days are longer, the nights are shorter...and everyone seems to be in a rush. It’s easy to forget how long it’s been since Saved By Zero was released....long enough for me to forget what it sounded like.
Thanks for playing this! They were on the 80s Cruise and still sound and look great!! This video was one of the early videos I loved. The father not accepting the son's love of art and belittling him and the son feeling rejected by the parents and his inner turmoil. It was very deep.
Great 80’s band. Another great 80’s band that you may not have heard (more of a one hit wonder) - John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - On The Dark Side You won’t be disappointed
The singer's name is Cy Curnin. The rest of the band were Jamie West-Oram (guitar), Rupert Grenfell (keyboards), and Adam Woods (drums). Bassist Dan K. Brown joined for the tour on this album and stayed with the band since. (On the album, Grenfell played synthesized bass.) The Fixx came from London and were known as an extremely serious new wave band whose primary success was in the US. Their second album,, Reach the Beach, featured this track and their biggest hit, One Thing Leads to Another. Other important tracks are Stand or Fall, Red Skies (both the studio and live versions), Lost Planes, The Fool, Secret Separation, and How Much Is Enough.
MTV had a huge influence on the 80's music scene in the USA and at the start they only had a limited number of videos to play, many of which came from UK bands. New Wave came came here thanks to MTV. These guys had a few videos in heavy rotation on the channel - I would lay on my mom's ottoman in front of our 13in TV watching MTV for literally hours a day so I knew who The Fixx and Men Without Hats and The Vapours and Haircut 100 and A Flock of Seagulls and Adam Ant and the Eurythmics and Asia and Soft Cell and Kajagoogoo and Spandau Ballet all were.
I love The Fixx, they had a really cool and unique sound! You guys did their song, One Thing Leads To Another, so this is not the first time you’ve reacted to them! Happy belated birthday to Amber! I love the Duran Duran t-shirt!❤❤
"One thing leads to another" is in my opinion a must-hear. It's the song that got me into The Fixx back in the day. Some other great songs are mentioned by others here in the comments, but "One thing leads to another" is the one I would always recommend to anybody looking to check out The Fixx.
Love the Fixx. I did a lot of college homework in the library to the Fixx's Phantoms album (cassette) to block out the world. Learned to really appreciate their talent. From what I read recently, the Fixx is still around (I just missed them on tour here in D.C.) in their original lineup. Not many bands who have been together for 30+ years can say that. More Fixx please.
Happy Belated, you beautiful girl! 🌹♥️ Hope your day was fantastic .. Amber, you inspire millions of girls, and women, all ages everywhere, by just being you! Authenticity speaks volumes. Congrats to both of you and your family. Sweetie. Love you ❤
"Saved By Zero" (1983) was the 2nd single by The Fixx to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking @ #20. The next single "One Thing Leads To Another" was their biggest hit and only Top 10 single peaking @ #4 in 1983.
I love that they captured the desolation and monotony of growing up poor in the 80s recession and stagflation without it being sad. And they did it in a different way than anything that had come before them such as blues or Western Swing/Western folk.
One thing, 1 thing leads to another by the fix. Yeah, that's real right there now, let's think about it. I aint talking about side type. What do I think of Steve what you mean? Do what you say? Oh, yeah, I'm sorry for what you're saying. And then do what you say. That's what we're talking about there.
There was a group called modern modern a ANG l ISH English modern English how to song? I'm male with you, I'm out with you. I'll tell you what now that would that would it? Would, it wouldn't work, touch him
It was about looking at your own life, not so much about amassing material things but about experiences that lend you to be blissful... The song was written from the point of view of the release you get when you have nothing left to lose. It’s sort of a meditation. It clears your head of all fears and panics and illusions and you get back to the basics, which is a Buddhist mantra, which I practiced back then, and which I still do. The idea of the song is how great it is to get back to zero
the fixx was 80's for sure but they had some of the best of that time...the psychedelic furs were a part of this new wave as well ..duran duran as well
The lead singer and principle song writer, Cy, is a terrific poet!! On the first listen, you notice it's catchy...then you think about it and discover a deeper layer to it's meaning. Once you think you've figured it out you realize it's another layer beyond! I for one, truly appreciate the complexity in his writing. Saw the Fixx live on Ft Lauderdale Beach during Spring Break in about 1981. Impressive!!
This song was popular during a very memorable part of my life. 88 was when was in my early twenties and I joined the Navy. The Fixx was a big part of those memories. Great times.
You guys are great! Although you get to hear these songs, for us older crowd, they reflect a part of our lives that are forever intertwined with memories and events that literally bring us back to these great days, friends and life in that period! So cool to hear you appreciate them. Please don't just listen to any of them only once...
This band was quintessential 80's, synth driven music. The entire album is a charmer (Reach the Beach) and the band is still touring from time to time. This was the soundtrack to many of our teens. This is a song that has been in tons of commercials. Red Skies at Night and a few other songs you'd like to check into.
A similar group (to me at least) are The Smithereens. That would be a great band to listen to. Behind the Wall of Sleep and Blood and Roses are great songs. Their lead singer Pat Dinizio died a few years ago.
The title itself, "Saved by Zero," refers to the concept of resetting a counter or starting anew. The song's lyrics explore the idea of starting over, letting go of past mistakes, and embracing a fresh perspective. The repeated refrain "Saved by zero" can be seen as a metaphor for hitting a point of absolute emptiness or a blank slate, where old patterns and ideas are wiped away, allowing for a new beginning. Throughout the song, there's a sense of reflection on the struggles and challenges that life presents. The line "Maybe, someday, saved by, saved by zero" suggests a hope for a brighter future or a better outcome, a belief that despite difficulties, there's potential for positive change and growth. In essence, "Saved by Zero" can be seen as a meditation on transformation and the power of starting from scratch, shedding old habits and mindsets, and embracing the potential for renewal and reinvention. The song's meaning is deliberately open-ended, allowing listeners to relate it to their own experiences and interpretations.
"one thing leads to another", "red skies", and " stand or fall" are your next fixx songs.
vocalist and head songwriter cy currin wrote politically complex songs reflecting the cold war anxiety of the '80s. the fixx were an interesting band.

One Thing Leads to Another
Less Cities (More Moving People)
Are all such great songs by The Fixx
I BELIEVE THIS SINGER WAS GUEST SINGER WITH TINA TURNER'S COMEBACK TOUR...PRIVATE DANCER😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks for playing this! They were on the 80s Cruise and still sound and look great!! This video was one of the early videos I loved. The father not accepting the son's love of art and belittling him and the son feeling rejected by the parents and his inner turmoil. It was very deep.
I heard this song a million times back when it was on Mtv. And I still have no idea what it's supposed to be about.
Back during the Reagan years there was a high threat of nuclear war, The Fixx was one of those bands that wrote songs about it
Great 80’s band.
Another great 80’s band that you may not have heard (more of a one hit wonder) - John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - On The Dark Side
You won’t be disappointed
One of my favorite 80's bands. They had a very unique sound.
The singer's name is Cy Curnin. The rest of the band were Jamie West-Oram (guitar), Rupert Grenfell (keyboards), and Adam Woods (drums). Bassist Dan K. Brown joined for the tour on this album and stayed with the band since. (On the album, Grenfell played synthesized bass.)
The Fixx came from London and were known as an extremely serious new wave band whose primary success was in the US. Their second album,, Reach the Beach, featured this track and their biggest hit, One Thing Leads to Another.
Other important tracks are Stand or Fall, Red Skies (both the studio and live versions), Lost Planes, The Fool, Secret Separation, and How Much Is Enough.
I always wondered back in the day how cool it would have been to have The Fixx & The Cure touring together 🤔😎
Ink is a great album by The Fixx from 1991. No One has to Cry is one song you need to listen to. Close your eyes and just listen. Awesome song
their lyrics are usually deep andnot literal. That moody, mysterious sound id their trademark. They are still going and have many other great albums.
Saved by zero is about looking at your own life not about getting personal things but your experiences the make you happiest
Well, it was about dang time you got to The Fixx! Been requesting for a while, so thanks! Next one should be "Red Skies" or "Stand of Fall"
Funny how a song can
bring back so many memories of a place & time in your life when you were young and carefree❤
first song I heard was red Skies at night. Caused me to buy the album but fav was one thing leads to another.
One Thing Leads to Another is a great song by The Fixx
I think they already reacted to that one, but just forgot. look up the Fixx reactions.
dude i had no idea that the same group sang these two songs lol both great songs
Good ding liked the funk guitar..
One Thing Leads to Another. ❤😅
One Thing Leads to Another was another of their hits. Worth a dive into more.
This song was all over the radio in the 80s. To this day, I have no idea what it means 😂
The Fixx had some solid songs and their later hit "How Much Is Enough?" has a great chorus with a pretty clear message.
About a year ago you reacted to "One thing leads to another", and you both enjoyed it. Try "Red Skies" next. You will not be disappointed. God Bless
Another band I had the pleasure to see live. They opened for Blondie!
Absolute unique sound, from those keyboards, that guitar... and that voice!!!
Phantoms. Shuttered Room, Walkabout and Reach the Beach were all top notch start to finish
@@turningpenguin4068 Phantoms..... What an atmospheric record!
Happy Belated, you beautiful girl! 🌹♥️ Hope your day was fantastic .. Amber, you inspire millions of girls, and women, all ages everywhere, by just being you! Authenticity speaks volumes. Congrats to both of you and your family. Sweetie. Love you ❤
Red Skies and Stand or Fall are my favorites of their songs!
Saw them live a few years ago. They did the entire “Reach the Beach” album, in reverse order. It was a great show, imo.
Save by zero and lock it when you say road saves you
Did you ever really break down the words
Do what you say say what you say i'm sorry what you mean
One thing, 1 thing leads to another by the fix. Yeah, that's real right there now, let's think about it. I aint talking about side type. What do I think of Steve what you mean? Do what you say? Oh, yeah, I'm sorry for what you're saying. And then do what you say. That's what we're talking about there.
There was a group called modern modern a ANG l ISH English modern English how to song? I'm male with you, I'm out with you. I'll tell you what now that would that would it? Would, it wouldn't work, touch him
My first "real" rock concert. They opened for the Police on the Synchronicity tour when it came through Atlanta.
In the 80's at the dance club this would come on after a upbeat song to let ppl cool down and get a drink while keeping the mood alive.
One of the most underrated bands of the eighties. Other cool songs are Are We Ourselves, The Sign of Fire, Stand or Fall and Red Skies.
the fixx was 80's for sure but they had some of the best of that time...the psychedelic furs were a part of this new wave as well ..duran duran as well
The lead singer and principle song writer, Cy, is a terrific poet!!
Oh!! One song suggestion I haven't seen others mention is, Driven Out. All these years later and the social commentary in this song still holds true.
This song was popular during a very memorable part of my life. 88 was when was in my early twenties and I joined the Navy. The Fixx was a big part of those memories. Great times.
same here! except I was in the Air Force.👏👍
Must hear “ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER “ this is their best song! 1982 or 1983 ❤😊
You guys are great!
The Sign of Fire by The Fixx, One Thing Leads to Another, Red Skies at Night. A lot of good stuff by them.
A similar group (to me at least) are The Smithereens. That would be a great band to listen to. Behind the Wall of Sleep and Blood and Roses are great songs. Their lead singer Pat Dinizio died a few years ago.
Definitely need to hit “Secret Seperation” and “Stand or Fall”. Terrific tunes.
You should check out Ric Ocasek's solo work from the 80s. "Look in Your Eyes" from the This Side of Paradise album.
