True musicians, they are able to reproduce live what they lay down in the studio. So few in the charts these days seem to be able to do this now.
Beyoncé Rihanna etc. Please take note, Midge actually sings live and hits all the correct notes. This ia what people expect when they pay to see an artist live. They don’t expect the singer to ponce around miming.

And that's what you get to see on contemporary shows too. Please don't play artists like Midge against Rihanna, Beyonce or god knows who.
And if you remember the 80ies correctly, you will see that many TV shows had complete playback. That's a thing of the past now, as most artists will play live on TV. And of course on stage.

Talk Talk was the best band that ever came out of the UK in the 80's and since.

When I listen to this song, I can't help but think of night bars where delinquent groups gathered during the Showa era in Japan. I can't get close. It's a cool song to listen to now. ❤️

Probably the best band of the eighties and definitely the most overlooked 🙁

Ultravox was by far the best synth band of the 80s and the most innovated talented band ever.

@@lastdaycultsnot even a close second! If ultravox could have written songs that were one half as good as Talk Talk 's Mark Hollis, then maybe I could have understood the hype! BUT THEY DIDN'T!

@Voxman683 pretty easy to do with any hardware VA synth like Nord Lead, Virus,Jp-8000 (which I own) you can do it programming a square wave lfo to trigger amp envelope or even more easily turning on the arpeggiator, setting to repeat each 8th note with hold function and just trigger the note changes after setting the correct tempo

Chris, as so often, wasn't paying attention. He had his Minimoog pitch bend at the wrong note at the start so the entire song would have been in the wrong key. Midge had to tell him.

    • @MashMashMusic
      @MashMashMusic Рік тому +1

      Yes! 😁
I thought at the beginning, wait, that's not the correct key. But Chris saves the situation.
Good fortune they don't use backing tracks.
There's somewhere here on UA-cam a performance of Van Halen and "Jump", where they Keyboard player is constantly on the wrong key. But they don't stop, they pulled it through. Hilarious!

@@MashMashMusic I don't think that Chris even realised until Midge looked at him. Chris's keyboard skills were very limited and he was, in my opinion, often careless about ensuring he was playing the right notes or stepping up to provide backing vocals. Just listen to the many instances on live recordings over Ultravox's career.

@@musicandfilms9956 I will have a look on that. because I never noticed him being a bad keyboarder. Not necessarily good, but ...
I've seen quite many live versions of "All stood still", and he at least played that arpeggiated synth there.
And here it could have been worse, like stopping the song altogether. He just stepped up the octave. :)

@@MashMashMusic The first time I saw the band live was the Quartet tour in 1983 at Newcastle City Hall. At the end of 'The Voice', when the band play electronic drum pads together, Chris threw his bass guitar from stage right across the stage into the wings. Whether he expected a roadie to risk life and limb catching it I don't know, but as a fledgling teenage musician myself on a very limited income, that seemed conspicuous consumption gone too far. My friends and I went backstage afterwards and asked Chris about this. He seemed nonchalant, just something he felt like doing. Make of that what you will.
