That’s a fantastic demo of this song with the use of many of your great synths. I like that piano sound of that synth, got a nice sound just like a real piano. To think this song came out in 1981 and missed the top spot here in the uk only getting to number 2 in the charts. God this was 43 years ago and they was doing stuff like this on synths and now in 2024 we make rubbish on more advanced tech. Just shows you how the mindset back then was to do as much as they could on these analog synths. That’s why I like the emulator a lot because of the things they did back then. They just took these synths to the limit and beyond. Just amazed now we lost it all to software rubbish and no input from the user no more. Sorry I’m going on here, anyway your amazing because it’s great to see people like you putting these demos together just like they was done back then. Fantastic demo and must of took some time to put this together? Thank you for sharing this with us and keeping the spirit alive in these great sounds of classic synths. Top channel, top man, beautiful classic synths.
Thank you very much for your feedback Michael.. It is always a pleasure for me to read your assessment. You are of course right when you say that digital development to this day has killed people's creativity in creating music. Nowadays everyone can make music because the possibilities are cheap for everyone but you can't put a price on creativity and skill. I therefore miss the times when creativity played a bigger role than it does today. Unfortunately, this is reflected in many areas of our time. It is pleasure for me to work with the old equipment from back then. The path to creation is not easy, but the fun outweighs. And fun is what it's all about for me. Have a nice weekend and see you next time.
Absolutely agree my friend. Back in the day limited synths created more creativity and better songs and structure. A classic example is Thomas Dolby 'The Golden age of Wireless' album.
This is one of my all time favorite bands. This reminds me of The Monument Soundtrack. I love Ultravox. Thank you for bringing back some great memories of when I first listened to them and still do. Well done!
You should do “The Voice” with arp lead and the arp strings/piano. Wow, this is just fantastic!! One guy was absolutely correct about the fact that with all this new technology, most are lazy and cannot create their own sounds from scratch like these older bands had to do. Now its all pre-set factory made sounds. Anyway, great video, subscribed!
Wow that Moog is in PRISTINE condition, for a split second I thought it was a modern "replica"!? It doesn't matter how many times Vienna is covered, it never gets old... actually I positively enjoy hearing people's various renditions. Bravo :)
Yep!!! piano perfect!!... even the recreation of the violin. Could you add these "thunder" that sounds at the end of each compass in the original Vienna? 🙂
Didn't they use a PPG wave and Emulator 1 (for strings). They did at least when they played this at Live Aid. Look up the video of that performance. Nevertheless great job here.

Very well done! Ultravox is one of the best bands of the '80s. Your tribute here is wonderful!
agree with you and thank you so much!
Is there an Oscar synth in your collection?
@@wd25a I have no OSCAR
@@retrosound72 Your music is already OSCar worthy 😉

They used a modified Minimoog, with a built-in auto trigger which I believe Midge added himself...he certainly had the expertise to do so.

I always thought they used the ARP Odyssey on this
Ultravox used the Minimoog here and the Yamaha SS-30

Is that an oberheim midi controller? What is making the piano sound?
Yes. Thank you.
I use a Emax piano sample
