Good for the thrill,awful for the sport.If a third party gets hurt say goodbye to EUC's for ever.People in general are too surprised by this awesome device to react just yet.Don't press it to scare the hell out of general population or the ban will come in no time.I ride my euc,s all the time and my everyday goal is to fly along as unnoticed as I'm capable of. Invisibility is a good thing so I move like a ghost through town in order to attract the attention of the police over me the least possible.

If a law is passed it'd be because that some interest group feeling that the PEV is somehow against the interests of their corporate clients. This type of races has been happening in NYC all along, even before EUC existed.
@@OWGAC Banned or not, these races are selfish and irresponsible. You're not just putting yourself in danger, but you're also blatantly endangering innocent bystanders. Getting hit by a 60+ pound machine going 40+ mph isn't a fun experience for anyone, just saying. If this stuff is the norm, it's only a matter of time before a bystander is seriously injured.
A bit surprised about releasing a video into the public domain, that is evidence of illegal traffic violations.
Intentional riding through red lights, riding on the wrong side of the road, on the sidewalk, into oncoming traffic, lane splitting...
There was a recent death of an Euc rider in San Jose on May 4, and that Ukraine rider death a few months ago as well.
Am concerned one of the NY riders or member of public is going to be seriously injured or killed.

The commentary even states that the violations are being committed knowingly and intentionally as it is happening, and not upon reflection after the fact.
If there are any haters or enemies of Hsiang, they could easily just send the video link to the police for prosecution.
A lot of the Capitol rioters on Jan 6 incriminated themselves on social media of Facebook, live streaming, etc.
The most concerning thing is the attitude to safety and consideration of others, be it road users or the general public.

The alley cat video by EVX was even worse.
A rider goes through a red light at a pedestrian crossing, at high speed, would have hit a little girl, cause serious injury or death, had it not been for the mother pulling the child backwards just in time.
The rider was yelling at people to get out of the way, when he was approaching the crossing.
He had ample time and opportunity to stop, but chose not to do so.
The rider in the comments said he would ride in another alley cat race, didn't think there was a problem because no one had been injured, and couldn't understand why so many people in the comments were expressing concerns.
That video recorded incident was used at the start of the video, also as the promotional teaser, before the opening titles.
It was a near 50/50 split between likes and dislikes, very unusual.
Ewheels responded saying their inbox was blowing up from so many people, because the video stated they were sponsors along with EUCO.
It is just so disturbing that the NY riders still think the behaviour was acceptable, despite so many in the community voicing their opinions to the opposite.
Not a fan. I've got 50 + mph escooter and the only reason I'm able to ride it without being bothered is because our small community in my area doesn't harass the population with stunts like this.

Personally I consider big cars with obnoxiously loud exhaust to be the real issue this is just payback.
These races are reckless and self-indulgent. Far from making EUCs look like a serious alternative to automobiles, all this video does is shine a light on a select group of riders who have decided that their good time comes first and traffic laws/pedestrian safety last.
They said the same thing about the hillbillies that were racing in the woods that used to run moonshine.

Seriously. He talks about people riding dangerously and getting us banned, when he’s not even wearing a full face helmet or any protective armor? When you’re going that fast and riding on one wheel, you have a responsibility to set an example of safety to people, and if you’re racing through the streets of New York basically naked when it comes to EUC protection, that’s not helpful to the cause at all.

@@steve00alt70 that’s an incorrect statement. They’re not classified as illegal or banned vehicles, in fact you’re allowed to ride them on most bike paths as well. I’m not sure where you’re from, but in the US, they’re PEVs, and are allowed to be ridden anywhere.

Hsiang, you’re the best euc youtuber in my opinion. You deserve the community's support. But it comes with a big responsibility. And this right here is not in line with the things that you usually stand by. I hope you come to realize that and address this important discussion in a next video.
I love your other vids, your knowledge on EUC:s and friendly attitude to newbies like me. But this race was irresponsible, some bystander could have been hurt really bad.

yeah running red lights without even stopping to check is dumb
alley catz are allways for most experienced riders and dangerous , if you look into NY fixers how they ride red lights it’s crazy too, but I’m preaty sure they are taking reasonable risk, they look for the traffic even on red lights, the BAD thing is young and unexperienced riders can follow the thing and get in trouble, so the disclaimer before vid will be a good to mention to take a risk and responsibility and only for pro riders.

@@PaulA-pm3gx I agree with you but at the same time I know the usual rule for example in NY if there is no traffic you can cross the road on red light for pedestrians. I'm not sure is it correct, just watched vids where people are saying the same. Is it a common sense or break a rule? I'm not saying you must cross the street on red light without even looking, and I'm not saying for pro riders there are some special rules... I agree with you if you're on the road obey traffic rules. But if you look above the line, the real problem on the roads are from people who are not looking or paying attention what is going on on the roads even if they ride green only. And at the same time if you observe traffic and react accordingly during the alley cat race it's possible to minimize the risk for everyone, you just need to do it. But for the sake of all people health I agree with you better to plan your ride on greens and using shortcuts

I don't see any pedestrian at that spot, Law almost got hit, but I don't see how why you thought this was an example where we were being dangerous to pedestrians.
@@OWGAC I was not trying to specify being dangerous to pedestrians for that specific situation - just that things come out of nowhere and the type of riding that is being done can have factors out of your control that could end your life

Honestly man this is a badass race but breaking the law and crossing fast traffic is a perfect way to get these banned. Just because they have the power doesn't mean they should be abused like this. Take it to the track guys, imagine a video of a bunch of motorcycles racing within city limits, this shit looks horrible for the sport. Also it just takes one uppity NYC law maker who gets cut off by one to set a bullshit standard regulation and effect the sport nation wide. We just had our first death in CA. EUC Is getting more and more popular and this is a bad look, sorry to Karen out but yikes dudes.

Dude please wear a full face! I just recently had a faceplant because of a malfunction. I lost conciousnes but only had minor scrapes and bruises. Without the full face I would have remodeled my face!

It’s so dangerous. You might not fail as an experienced rider, but it’s just a piece of technology, and technology alway fails. You have to be prepared, otherwise things like this will get EUCs banned from the streets and sidewalks. People crashing and getting seriously injured is the type of thing that politicians will use against the community to pass laws

Loved this race! Had a reality show cannonball run vibe to it. We need go pro footage for every participant to see what everyone went through. Super grateful that you were not just racing, but also capturing the moment! Multi tasking talent! Glad Law didn't get killed out there in that NYC traffic!

@@evXNYC For what it's worth, I found it wildly entertaining and highly appreciate that I could experience it for just a moment. Yes it was dangerous, but it was also the first race of it's type and can be improved on. There will always be torches and pitchforks for innovations. Keeps the hobby from going stale.

I had camera, video will come up on Evx channel. It's boring, I used my cellphones to go between checkpoints lol, literally hand held it during the race, also I took a highway on the way to last checkpoint and finish ..

Why not apply for some kind of event permit? I'm sure NYC has protocols for things like this. What a better way to promote such an amazing sport/ hobby. This way everyone can benefit from what you're doing here. Riders get a chance to show off their skills, people get entertained, street vendors can make a little more money, PEV dealers can benefit from the exposure and increased sales.
I've been thinking about this for 2 years with my custom ebike. Glad to see others thinking the same way. Here in Canada, it's a different vibe than in the US. I have a dream of dodging metal in NYC.

IDK man this is all pretty irresponsible. There's a time and place for racing and this isn't it, like at all. The people in their cars are just trying to live their lives and get to work, they don't need jackasses creating a dangerous situation by zipping between them in a "race". As a game designer I'd rather randomly pick the check points sequence at the start of the race, this would give the street savvy riders an edge toward the fast riders. Think about it for the next race...
We set it up top to bottom in hopes of allowing lower ranged PEVs to join. Next format will be a bit diff 🤙
It was a lot of crowded sections in the race! Plus cobble stone roads, which is epicly annoying

@@phamster18 I mean yes and no? 30 seconds is pretty huge in a race but you are also right that finding a route where the light and traffic all works in your favor can easily make that much difference between a single stop!

Reading the comments and people are concerned - more for ramifications to their sport than public safety but still. So a few comments.

EUC's are ridden at speed in New York traffic and about pedestrians every day without incident.
Given the results of events like this and the Broadway Bomb, would indicate that this is not as insane or fraught with danger as may first appear. The riders themselves have every intention of returning home without broken bones, or equipment and are dressed accordingly.
The nature of New York Traffic seems to instill due diligence into pedestrians of its dangers.
The events themselves are exciting and popular, and certainly more social-able than certain other urban activities.

These events are undoubtedly illegal - and with that there are certain implications.
Any event will be (from a legal perspective) the fault of the rider regardless of reality.
Since no one is going to insure you - then guess who will be paying the damages.
God forbid anyone dies - but rest assured your going to jail.
Last but not least guilt and condemnation, if you have got it wrong.
