- I love using manual lenses sometimes because you can get very smooth focus pulls when shooting video. Using autofocus lenses, it can be much harder. But with the newest firmware update to the G9, they've made it MUCH easier. Can only be used on these lenses:
H-XA025, H-ES200, H-E08018, H-X1025, H-HSA12035, H-ES12060, H-FS12060, H-X2550, H-HSA35100, H-FSA45200, H-ES50200, H-FSA100300 and H-RS100400
(most of these are self explanatory. For example, the H-RS100400 is the 100-400 Panasonic lens. If unsure, cut and paste into a search engine. The xa025 is the 1.4 version, not the 1.7 version.)

It's crazy how much the G9 is turning into a mini S5 with all these updates, would be cool if more lenses were supported though
Absolutely. Yeah, I agree with everything you just said!
Looks good. I'll have to check this out. Thank you :)
I sold my GH5, now I have the G9 and do not regret it.
I am not surprised. The G9 is a great camera!
I confess that I did not understand it so much because I am a slow learner. Still the video was awesome as usual and the FallOut 3 thing: I loved it 🙏
haha glad you liked it!
@@PostColorGear I really like your channel and it is for me an inspiration to make better videos on my own channel as well. Thank you for the informations. I will need to understand better these new features but I hope it will help me to succeed in making my channel a better place!
Good luck!
@@PostColorGear thank you!!!
I upgraded the firmware and also purchased a follow focus kept and can set near and far points, which would not work with non-linear.
I updated the G9 with the new Firmware 2.6 as well as the lenses. And after setting the Linear focus to 240 degrees, I ran some test. To my surprise, the camera now maintains focus through the zoom range without the need to adjust manual focus. The only trick is, to slow zoom real smooth. Did the Lumix G9 always have this ability? Or is this something new? Is Lumix comming out with new mortorized mechanical zoom lenses? Would they have accomplished this without the DfD AF system? Anyway, thanks.
Help anyone please ! I have updated my treasured G9 each time a new version is released and am fully familiar with the procedure, so I did the usual thing when I upgraded to version 2.4 in mid-2021. In November I tried to update to 2.5 and the menu tells me that I already have 2.5, which I don't but am not able to load the new 2.5 ! The facility to amend the linear focusing is greyed out, confirming that 2.5 is not present. I tried reverting to various settings but that did nothing. The only thing that I can think of is to await version 2.6 but am very receptive to any and all advice.
too bad not every Lumix and panaleica lenses support this feature. Sadly all my lenses (kit lens, Panaleica 25 and 42.5) don't support this feature.. :(
do you think there will be future lens firmware that could enable this feature to all lumix and Panaleica lenses?
Why can't the add a firmware to the G7? That camera has such a nice image quality, just the auto focus is a potato, so manual all the way here.
Yeah, that would be great. Here's my honest opinion about the G9. They gave us "too much". BUT to be clear, I am not complaining, at all. The autofocus on this can in some aspects match the new S5, and was so much better than the GH5 that they had to come out with the GH5 mark 2! So I can see why they keep pumping out updates for this camera. It is a shame they can't add something into the old ones though, even though they have different processors.
@@PostColorGear yep
Hi, there is no 2.5 its now 2.6, I updated to 2.6 but I can not set the focus control, its grayed out. I am in manual focus and in video mode, do you know why? thank you,
Is it one of the supported lenses? They're listed on the firmware download page.
@@PostColorGear thank you
You also need to upgrade your lens firmware
@@pilmook thank you, they are have the latest firmware ,but I dont have any of the listed lenses
Is this online available on Panasonic lenses? Tried it with my Olympus 60mm Macro but the Option is greyed out
Yes it's for a select group of Panasonic lenses. I mention it on the description but it's also listed over on the firmware page if you're curious.
A VERY select list of Panasonic lenses.
There has been firmware updates for these lenses in June just for that. At the time it was for the GH5 II compatibility.
Since the lens firmware has to be updated it can only work on Panasonic lenses I suppose.
Now for the G9 too. That's great :)
I believe that’s already built into the GH5 ii, correct?
I believe it is, yes. They just added it to two other cameras but I think those were the GH5s and the new full frame BS1H camera.
@@PostColorGear I’m waiting to see what the GH5 has to offer. If it’s not much, I’m getting the GH5 ii as an update for my M43 system. :)
Awesome! :)
HELLO, I JUST UPDATED MY G9 WITH THE 2.5 FIRMWARE AND THE "FOCUS RING CONTROL" IS GREYED OUT. CAN YOU TELL ME WHY IS THIS THE CASE?
Yes. You may have an unsupported lens. The lenses are listed over on the download page for the firmware.
I had exactly the same thing. You need to ascertain that the lenses you use are compatible with this upgrade; you will eventually find this on a Panasonic site. You must also ascertain that the firmware upgrades are installed on the lenses with the latest version. I found this out the hard way !
Oh man, I _really_ wish they make this available for the GH5 as well.
Yeah, that would definitely be nice!
@@PostColorGear oh i missed that. Thanks
I tried to upgrade from 2.4 to 2.5 but failed.... Can't upgrade.
Did you figure it out? Was there an error message?
