I just bought a new build home, and, although it's a 1271 sq ft home on a 6050 sq ft lot, the setback is craaaazy. For some reason they gave me this looooong driveway where I can fit like 5 trucks. It's so annoying. So now I have what appears to be a small backyard and a bigger side yard. I grew up in a home with a traditional large backyard, zero side yard, and now I don't know if I made the wrong chose on homesite. I feel sick. I'm watching this video to get ideas and not feel depressed. Dry wall will go up in about two weeks. I'm a first-time buyer. Why are they building these massive front yards?

Nice backyards! Regarding designs/plans. In some places, you may have to get a permit to build, create what you would like to do. Something like that shed for instance. Being able to take it to your planning and Zoning office and show them what you would like to do can eliminate a lot of trouble down the line. And regarding 3D designs, using SketchUp you are able to create 3D plans on your own using stock imagery to guide you through your decision making
Do you guys work around HOA restrictions when someone does designing with you? We’re across the country from you but are heavily considering your expertise! We live in a neighborhood ruled by HOA though, and it’s been so annoying trying to figure out what we are allowed to do vs what we want to do! 🤦🏻♀️

Not sure what I can do but I kinda know what I want and wondering if you can help me here in Spokane WA. We deal with harsh winters long and dark so this space would be a chance to have a place to ride it out.
What does the process of finding the right city codes and applying for permits look like during the build outs? I can imagine our city being up my butt plus increased insurance rates for a hot tub, new fence, dining pergola, and unattached dwelling apartment. Otherwise, would love to replicate these projects through the 3d models…super cool.

What do the homeowners do in Portland rain in non-summer seasons? Do they move the dining table under covered area? I am also curious about the cooking area in rain, how do they access in 7-9months of Portland rain?

It would totally depend on where u live. I have found that I can't mention cost because it is 100% different depending on the local area. Even from Portland to Seattle only three hours drive is completely different construction coats.
Trust me, the cost to build one of these backyards in these videos is insane. Not cheap no matter where you live. Only for the wealthy who don't mind dishing out approx 100K for a nice backyard.
Love your ideas but I wish you would look straight into the camera at all times. It looks really awkward when you are staring in a different direction when you are speaking. Unless you are interviewing someone, there's no reason for you to look in another direction than where your viewers are.
I have a very big yard but love the feel of small purposeful outdoor spaces, I would love to create something like that off of my preexisting deck.

I love the backyard transformation shown at 2:45. The grill area is beautiful but all the seating areas make the yard feel much larger.

That is correct. I promise u will save at least triple that amount having a clear plan that will prevent mistakes....those are much more expensive.
