  • The all-new Porsche 911 Carrera, with the code name 992, is arriving this year and it is the best looking air-cooled 911 so far. With the wheelbase remaining the same, Porsche made the track wider, the wheels staggered but also bigger in the back by one inch. The front wheels are 20-inches by 8.5-inches wide but the back wheels are 21-inches with a width of 11.5-inches. The track has been increased by 4.5cm on the front and 3.9cm in the back. This gives the all-new Porsche 911 wide, flat stance that is accentuated by the wide front and rear air openings. It looks killer. Inside the new Porsche Carrera is a 10.9-inch centre screen, a toggle PDK shifter and class panel in the centre similar to the Panamera and cayenne. This is one area that looks a bit cheap and not in keeping with the car. The rest of the car is classic Porsche materials and build quality. The engine has a 3.0L bi-turbo 6-cylinder with 443hp and 390lb.-ft. of torque with the power going to a new 8-speed PDK. A manual will come later in the year. There is a new Wet mode for driving in the rain that changes the ABS, traction control, throttle and PDK settings to give much better control in wet conditions, plus more torque is set to the front wheel if the car has all-wheel-drive.

You must’ve been so... “it’s a great day to be an Automotive Journalist”... all the way to the airport (and back). I love the re-design/re-engineering.... you KNOW it’s a Porsche, and still distinctly... it’s a 911. Thanks for the video.

I loved the 930, then the 964. The 993 turbo S is a screaming scalpel. The 997 reminded me of its ancestors - fast and precise. Porsche may have gotten my attention again with the 992. I can’t wait to try one for myself.

Why don't you ask Porche for a 911 for a Top Gear-style drive across Canada. You can just enojoy the experience and talk about the negatives and positives of driving a sports car across Canada. Do it now too, since it's freezing cold and there's lots of snow. It would more challenging and it would be a great test to put the car through. start off in BC and end in Newfoundland or Nova Scotia.

I really don't want to know what those tires cost, but it sure looks amazing. Btw it's not just the tires and track improving the performance...it's also the rear wheel steering and especially the electronic anti-tilting system.

Great video but I have to respectfully disagree with your casual comment on the 'faulted' styling of the 996. It was designed by Pinky Lai and he knew exactly what he was doing when he penned the 996. What makes the 996 styling so great is not what it has, but rather what it does not have. It is devoid of excessive bulk all around and has a very understated subtle look about it. The elegant rear deck lid is all Porsche with a properly integrated spoiler that rises at 65mph and it doesn't look like a Pac Man mouth 1:36. Best of all when you lift the deck lid you can actually see the flat six engine and even work on it. The headlights were lifted right off the Porsche GT1 Mobil race car and they look fabulous when they are polished up. It does not have clown car 21 inch wheels, instead the 18's are the sweet spot. The interior is virtually indestructible with a very simple layout and the Porsche gauges sit right in the middle where they belong with beautiful red needles and cream color fonts. No silly 10 inch computer screens are needed. The convertible even has the option of a removable hardtop. Truly the 996 is as good as it gets in the world of Porsche. There really are no styling faults and every angle looks fabulous. Anybody can drool over Ginger but a keen eye will see that Mary Ann is the one to pick. Go to 0:43, hit pause.... and take a long hard look. That is a 20 year old car. Do you see any styling faults. I don't. Oh, one last thing. Nick Murray's new Porsche has been in the shop since December because not even Porsche can't figure out what is wrong with it. Wayyyy to much technology that only does one thing > break.
