Damn, your videos are so good. I saw them briefly several months ago just to look at what sketchup can do, and now I'm actually learning it from your videos, and it goes soooo smoothly. You're a great tutor.
I watched few tutorials about sketch up from others. Yours is the best one so far - a really good explanation of the tools and how to use it. Big thumbs up
I use Twilight Render Hobby for rendering (because it's free), but I never actually learned the full capability of it and I don't understand how to add lights. You're the only Sketchup tutor that I understand, so if you don't mind maybe you can make a video of it? Thanks
Hello! Thank you for the tutorial. Just a question, where can you get the materials (glass, bricks,) etc. ? Mine does not come with those designs/materials.
Great work. Thanks so much. Any way to donate? I looked at your classes but they are too much for what I need so I don’t want to pay for that, but i want to pay for what you’ve taught. Thank you!
As much as this series is great, and really helping me get my head around SketchUp, man that intro... it sounds like he's recording at 1 AM in his mom's basement lol No disrespect, just super funny!!
do you have a video on pre-designed rooms? i want to be able to plop down a bathroom and possibly switch out fixtures and then plop down a bedroom, kitchen and living room and be able to move whole rooms around so I can determine my design layout. thank you!
Great videos. When you PPed to thicken the wall for the wainscot....how did you do it without getting inside corners on all four corners...in other words how did you get the push pull to heal or seam the corners with out inside corners?
Justin, I started with Sketchup when it first rolled out, just novice models, etc. I really want to get deep with all your videos and possibly paying for Sketchup so I have full access to its power. My question for you is this? Is there still freelance work for Sketchup? Or have all the modelers and the work moved over to Autodesk? I dont wanna put all the time, effort and money into Sketchup unless I can find a few freelance jobs here and there. I never got into the rubies and other addons, but I just wanna know how the freelance market is. Is Sketchup still viable in the market? Thanks.
I am a real amateur, have imported an elevation of our house from a dwg file. trying and failing to: create that model as a base layer sayA. Strip back some of the drawing information and make this another layer say B: overdraw on that second layer and create it as an 'option' say C; use B and create another option called option D. Used components and tags but getting confused!
I have used SK for many years now and OK with most things but what I really find impossible still is intersecting 2 (or more) pipes or cylinders. Always holes.
Thank you. Very helpful Although, I am struggling with a MAC. You mention in 15:45 the Move+Control takes into copy mode but that does not work for the Mac.
Where do i go to get sketchup for free that will work on my mac computer running os 10.15.7 Catalina I have used sketchup for years and love it but after upgrading my OS i can't use my old sketch or open older files. Any ideas? Thanks.. i enjoy your videos!
First of all great beginner video. I'm just a novice wanting to learn Sketchup. Have a question, when you added the glass material to window and spun house around it seemed as if there was an empty room, as it should be, but when did you create the room in the house...is the house not solid when you extruded the house upward to 12'?
3D shapes in SketchUp are really only made up faces - so for example - a cube is made of 6 flat faces. There's nothing "inside" the shapes, which is why you can see inside when you apply a transparent material
My computer is windows based. I have purchased pro, but can not see my default tray when activated. When I click hide tray and show trya nothing happens. Can you advise what I am doing wrong.
@@mmmmbennett the protractor tool does not give you a dimension like the dimension tool in SketchUp how do I do that. The pro version is very expensive I can't believe they won't put this basic function in SketchUp
Oh I see. Yes I agree a lot of basic functions should be added to the program without needing extensions. The protractor tool finds and marks angles and that is it. Using it with other tools is the only way to get dimensions
Hi there , I am a self taught beginner using your videos which are great! I accidentally quit layout today whilst working on a project ( not sure how i did that) and now I cannot load any files into layout at all, or open any that were saved in layout. Can you help me ?
Hi. If i click L, i will enter the line mode. But if i press esc, the line mode(the pencil symbol) still there. I want to change back to cursor mode. Anyone know how to overcome this?
Is there a way to go back just one step if I mess up? I keep having to go back completely if I end up with a line offset or I add simmering completely wrong.
I am having an issue where I am trying to make a hole for a cabinet door. so I make all my marker lines and I trace them with the draw tool then I click on them so they are highlighted. when I try to push them back by a 1/2" the thickness of the wood, it tends to push the whole line to the other side and does not make a hole. any suggestion on what I'm doing wrong?
@@Thesketchupessentials THanks I finaly got it evedentaly i have drown over the same lines a couple times so had to erase them then had to explode it for some reason then was finaly able to get it. thanks for your teachings
Justin your really good however you go to damn fast! I find I have to stop the videos over and over and over just to keep up. Remember we're BEGINNERS, not advanced yet.
@@Thesketchupessentials no, I mean, you really give genuinely good content. This little thing is not even a problem, one gets used to it over time. Your work is very appreciated. Amazing! I just had my first house model made in SketchUp just by following your step-by-step tutorials. :)

would love the shortcut list, sucks that you have to put it behind promotional walls and make us jump through hoops just to get it.
Can you do image import..like a house you would want to do an addition on for example
Curious why couldn’t you create the door and window components to make cutouts in the walls instead of making the openings for the components to fit?
because it is easier to get them in the right place, at a guess
Justin, nevermind...i think what happened was my rectangle footprint got skewed so it did not recognize the opposing walls as plumb.

It sounds like you might have the geometry you're trying to cut to make the hole in a group? So the raw geometry isn't intersecting?
