Justin, thanks for this and I am finally getting the finer points. I assume this is the easiest way to do the walls vs actually framing with proper layout. BTW for future videos a door is framed at 6'8"/80 high. ( Older carpenter. . .)

What do you say to the DIY folks like me who have no experience using CAD or design software, but want to learn and eventually be able to create a 360 degree 3D model of their entire property, inside and outside, including landscaping. I want to use my existing paper blueprints as much as possible to ensure accuracy. And, I'd love to incorporate the new technologies such as Lidar via iPhone and Drones.
My plan is to create a bunch of different remodel ideas to share with my wife. Some will be simple room remodels such as a kitchen remodel. I want to create a bunch different concepts like opening our bottom floor, this would require knocking down walls.
I understand there are estimating tools too, each iteration of my ideas ideally would have a rough estimation of costs.
Having the ability to add furniture and cabinets to get a real feel of final design would give my wife and I something to use when we begin the bidding process for a general contractor.

Pro Tips - Always use REVIT to Sketchup workflow to save time including (Auto Tags, Groups, Components).
1.Import image in REVIT and scale it.
2.Model all the Walls, Openings for (Doors & Windows) with better Revit element parameters
3.Isolate each category as 3D View
    4.Export 3D views as DWG
    5.Import DWG to SketchUp.

How do you ‘delete the face” in order to keep seeing the image? As soon as I close a line and create a new surface the image goes away entirely. In your video you say delete the face, but I am not sure how do that. 😊 Thank you

When I put the guides for the windows, the show up parallel with the walls instead of adjacent, how do I fix this?

There is no need to explode the image before grouping it. Just select the image and then group.. You can still just go into the group, measure and re-size. That way you don't have the issue of the image disapearing when you model on top of it.

What do you mean skp does not import pdf? I,’m on skp 2020 and it does… not available in newer versions? Reason enough not to upgrade then I guess

How do you import pdfs? With a Plugin?

I THINK this is Mac/PC thing. Are running a Mac? As far as I know, the Windows version still doesn't support PDF import unless something has changed. There are several extensions that can do PDF import of vector PDF's, but I've not seen anything that supports raster

Its srrange, every year we get a new Version of SketchUp, but still without any pdf import function, and still a shitty dwg import funktion, without Text etc.

Talk about STRANGE....I can top that. Let's talk about AUTOCAD that won't allow you to export your 3D objects as an FBX file after the 2018 version. Those greedy bas***** want you to buy a second AUTOCAD program to do so. I am spending nearly $2,000/year on the Autocad subscrand they want me to also subscribe to REVIT or their 3DMax. That is some nerve. So I design a kitchen in Autocad, then have to 3D model it in Sketchup before being rendered. Sometimes, I 3D model it inside AUTOCAD, but then the file gets really clunky even with a middle of the road graphics card, and then I can't use any other software to render. If I could export as an FBX file, then I could use Blender or Unreal Engine. That is why I am starting to look into using Sketchup. I am pretty peeved at AUTODESK right now.😊

Is there any way of importing an image which has all walls shown as 1 line ie no depth, and sketchup making all walls say 10cm or so?
