* By trying to appeal to the young (who are not watching) the BBC is antagonising its main audience
* BBC's output is therefore not only biased but off-putting -- leading many people to turn off
* Aggressive interviewing with constant interruptions has become the norm on the BBC, where reporters seem to be focussed on "gotcha" moments where they can catch politicians in a lie.
* Channels such as the New Culture Forum Channel provide a forum for calm and reasoned discussion, where participants are free to explain and expland on their thoughts in a much more fruitful and enlightening way.
* The whole nation enjoyed BBC programmes when the political views of its celebrities were unknown. Social media has changed this.

parliament held a minute’s silence to honour an American career criminal.
Amongst many other crimes, during a robbery he held a gun against the stomach of a pregnant black women.
To put this in perspective:
The UK parliament have never held a minute’s silence for any UK service personnel killed in action.

minute’s silence for any UK Police Officer murdered on duty
They have never held a
minute’s silence for the death of one of our Covid-19 heroes

minute’s silence for a murdered victim of domestic abuse.

I liked HIGNFY until Brexit. Then I realized how much contempt the show had for me. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I did cancel my licence fee.

Yes it's utterly reprehensible. Why aren't the governors better at keeping them to their commitment to balanced public broadcasting. It's the governors who need to brought up to scratch. What are we paying them for?
I've enjoyed HIGNFY since it started in the 1980s. I always recorded it to watch the next day. I've deleted my recording. The bias and spitefulness have made the show unwatchable.
I have cancelled my TV licence and Sky subscription, and do not wish to experience any future BBC/Sky content as bias and virtue signalling are both assured.
Sky News Aus is great. Good RW content.

Excellent discussion. I've certainly lost all trust in the BBC as a source of fair and unbiased news. Perhaps I have a distorted memory of there having been something rather special, a golden age even of sincere and dependable journalism with a team that cherished the highest standards of reporting and truthful analysis of the news. At the moment, I cannot watch any of the main media broadcasters. ITV seems to relish its own miserable, cynical and unbearably condescending team, headed by the worst journalist of them all Robert Peston. Channel four news is wall to wall negativity and still smarting under the realisation that it was unable to bring down the Conservatives, and probably, because of its profoundly biased reporting, happily handed a massive electoral majority to their arch enemy. As for programmes like" Good Morning Britain.........? "Words cannot describe the appalling standard of Piers Morgan led and styled ranting and raving. It should be renamed "God Help Britain!"

Stopped watching the BBC a number of years ago when I realised even Mock the week had become terminally biased. Ruined what was one of the last good shows on there. Haven't missed their output and certainly have enjoyed spending the licence fee money on other things. Can't even bear to look at the BBC news website either. The BBC needs to be defunded. Shocking sh** show allround.

I stopped watching "Have I got news for you" because it did not have news for me, it would miss news stories out and twist others. Global Warming, Sandy Hook, ect ect.
The BBC presenters mistake infamy with fame and think they are liked by the public when they are in fact despised for their utterly biased views. They no longer present programmes in a balanced manner, by constantly letting the viewers know their personal views. As they are supposed to be similar to a referee and control the discussion they must be neutral! The BBC is the national broadcaster for the whole of the country. Not the mouthpiece of one side of the political divide. On failing to uphold its neutrality it no longer deserves the privileged position it has with the licence fee funding and should be forced into the commercial sector where it has to justify its funding to advertisers!
It has always been a commercial company. It sells videos of its many series to other countries. It sells videos of drama to us. I have not watched the BBC news for over a year. I can't stand I have Got News for You. The Brexit bashing "jokes" were so biased
It isn't just the BBC. I know the others are commercial stations and we are told that they have the right to push their views but its to a captive audience. Any other business model being controlled by a certain demographics would be challenged by the monopolies commission. For the life of me I cant think of one broadcaster in the UK that isn't left leaning. My choice of viewing is now down to non news channels and even some of those are now going down the same route.
I feel the same as Rafe when I watch Coogan. I want to appreciate his comedy, as I think he is a talented guy, but it is impossible for me to watch him without having the feeling that he holds my views in utter contempt and, much worse than that, that he has expressed contempt for people such as me solely for holding opinions which are contrary to his own. I do recall seeing TV ‘personalities’ on Labour Party broadcasts for elections in the 1980s and 1990s, but I cannot remember them insulting voters who had different political views, until the Brexit vote of 2016.
I haven't seen a BBC political programme for the last 6 months. I didn't see the last 6 months of Dimbleby's Question Time and never seen one with the new host. I saw the first 5 mins of current series of HIGNFY and switched off and not watched one since. That was a programme I looked forward to watching. Mr Hislop has had his day.
Hislop used to be the 'terror of the establishment' in the 1960's, with his ''Private Eye'' mag. BUT, like all those of that generation ( like BLIARS GANG ) when they were students --opposing -everything, THEY, and HIS-SLOP, became, the establishment, the LEFTY LIB, wishy washy establishment. And still trying to be cutting edge, pathetically unfunny, chuckling at his own none--humour. I hope his Mag, is soon history.

HIGNFY started out brilliantly but bias has destroyed it over the years. It really started to decline after Angus Deayton was forced to quit (in fairness the BBC had no choice but to drop him) and they started using guest presenters. Lets face it, HIGNFY should've ended 15yrs ago.

Couldn’t agree more. I mourned the loss of the likes of Have I Got News For You several years ago. Saint Hislop makes me positively queasy, whilst Merton sits tight lipped except for the odd apolitical one-liner. His political stance is conspicuous by its absence, but I guess the cheques are too large to employ his principles and walk away. Live at the Apollo is now nothing more than a platform for inverted racial hatred and I await the new series of Would I Lie To You, where the answer to that question is a simple ‘True’.
For me ''Would I lie to You'' is the last outpost of real humour , sharp wit, and entertainment. Therefore, the ONLY programme I seek out Short on laughs see.
The BBC made the BLM riots look like a lovely party.Imagine my shock when I went on line and saw some real coverage.

I've stopped watching Dr Who. I used to love it. I can remember when Jon Pertwee was the doctor. The dinosaurs on the ship were the best. The female doctor is awful with the male assistant.

Yes I think in this extract from the full episode, the participants have hit the nail on the head, too much "me, me" from presenters and too little sticking to the news and hard facts. I have never been bothered by the TV Licence Fee but it does become totally up for grabs when you can no longer rely on the BBC as the "Gold Standard" in truthful reporting. It amazes me to think just how stupid and disconnected from reality the people who run the BBC must be when they fail to realise that their news output can be and is viewed by the public as little better than the most ranting fool on UA-cam. There is another major downside to this which is when people "switch off" from the mainstream media they then gravitate to channels of information which may well be as bad, that reflect their views or at least, reflects views that they feel comfortable with, this in turn leads to even greater division and polorization of society.
Sorry but the news channels are much better than the BBC news and actually gives information which you can trust. You get articles from newspapers which mostly they are true before they are censored. We have no such thing as free speech

As a foreigner, I used to love and watch the BBC, religiously. It was the golden standard of good reporting. But I started noticing its bias when it reported on Israel and everything Muslim... From there, little things on other subjects started to add up, and my mistrust and disappointment only grew bigger. But the nails in the coffin were Brexit, Obama, Trump, climate, racial matters, political correctness and debates...and now its bias is so unashamed and coarse that I can't watch it anymore. It's nauseous. I can't understand why it still gets public money.
I came upon this many years ago with a Band called The Scaffold. I liked and enjoyed their music greatly, however, suddenly they began to spout their love of the Labour Party and all they stood for! Then they appeared with the Party members, and quite honestly that was it as far my liking them as a music provider from then on. I realised I liked their music and not them!! They were too stupid, as many are nowadays, to think they are too important and don't need to think of all their fan's likes and dislikes. Every potential star has only, in reality, a small percentage of people who like them. To go political is to reduce that figure by a considerable amount. As happened to them! If a program, like "Have I got News for you" shows its bias, as it did with Brexit, then I don't want to watch something that greatly disagrees with me!

I don't listen to the Today programme any longer, since John Humphrys retired (or was he pushed?), nor Newsnight, really since Paxman left. When Andrew Neil goes that'll be the end of the 'Devil's Advocate' interview, a technique that seems beyond the likes of Emily Maitlis, who really is nothing but a bit of a showoff; it's all about her.
When was the last time a working man show was on BBC ? Maybe top gear and we know what happened there biggest ever show canceled lol 😂
Where’s the next Fred Dibnah? Someone ordinary who can be admired for the sprinkling of gold they add to being down to earth, and hence make themselves stand out. Guy Martin has a good crack, but Fred Dibnah was in a league of his own because his programmes never felt forced. It wouldn’t even be a difficult recruitment process because UA-cam and the like provide the place to search for people with something to offer up in an informative and interesting manner, but it seems laziness has crept into us all a little, us for being captivated by our latest fad and the broadcasters for not being able to track and tap into it.
They BBC hated the fact that Top gear was presented by 3 middle class white blokes. They must have been rubbing their hands together with glee when Clarkson had that “fracas” with his producer. They finally had their chance to cull another white face!
Not just the BBC and light entertainment. One of my once-favourite rugby players produced some really unpleasant comments about the great unwashed who were stupid and uneducated enough to vote for Brexit. Ever since have felt that he really wouldn't want me watching him play.

I got rid of my TV in 2008 and it's the best decision I have made in a long time. The hard bit is trying to break the brain washing of my friends and family who repeat phrases and points of view broadcast on the TV as if it's their own. I feel like I'm living in The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
I've totally stopped listening to BBC and Radio New Zealand (my home radio), they are so gone. I have listened to them since my teens, 30 odd years, but it is over.

why can't we have some sort of middle ground, I mean I used to believe in feminism and the equal rights of legitimate minorities in our country and climate change is going out of control but the far left only wants us to focus on the minor details with meaningless solutions. But now I can't support these things because the people who currently represent everything good in the world also want to remove our freedom and human rights.....But then the other side, the far right, we have the weird denial of human caused climate change and the strange claim that women have never been oppressed....I'll let all the women chained up in basements know, they will be so happy to hear that their suffering doesn't exist. They can look forward to the day that the far left stands up and saves them....unless of course your captors have a certain heritage and nationality that we can't mention....then your imprisonment is a cultural misunderstanding if they even admit your captivity at all. But all is not lost ladies, soon they will have over 2,000 genders for you to remember and a nice jail cell waiting if you fail to remember them all. Whilst being raped and tortured and called a infidel the whole time, it must be soul crushing when all the people that try to save you get called racists and arrested. The worst part is that no matter which side is in control, the same people will still be sitting on the highest thrones, because both sides are the same deep down.
@Kevin Burrow I agree, but given how when faced with two choices, people do tend to join the side that is most likely to eliminate something they don't like. The far right has every chance of growing as long as the far left continues as it is.
@Kevin Burrow hmm, well I guess your right, I was just thinking of all the groups that oppose things like the EU, or support Trump....They also seem to deny climate change, which is crazy given how the climate is in a state of feedback collapse, and it frustrates me how neither side is willing to face the enormity of the problem. Studied science a little while back and that when I realized how screwed we are and how science has become biased....They wanted us to sign a document that prohibited the opposition or criticism of all published scientific works, and they would't say in black and white how bad it is, but they gave us the data and showed us how to do the math, but every time we calculated how quickly things got bad, it never took less than 50-100 years for total destruction of habitable environments. When the earth heated up before, it was over 1000x slower than this time, and still we had several mass extinctions as a result, but do it faster and you get feedback catastrophe. Like Stephen hawking said, we will be lucky if earth doesn't end up like Venus.
@Kevin Burrow I hope your right :) but it finally looks like the left is getting rejected, the media is starting to move away from it in some areas. Of course they have doubled down in other areas, milking police brutality and using the death of that man as an excuse to reignite the history deletion and book burning.....I don't see a lot of difference between the two tbh. The far left do have an awful recurring habit of acting like nazis. But my main thought is that both sides are bad, the right might be small but it doesn't mean they're not a threat in waiting, especially when the right is used by us to beat the left. I hate the fake reality both sides have been painting and both pictures look oppressive and scary. l don't understand why people are still paying for the tv licence. It's so simple - Just cancel your direct debit. If anyone comes to try to harass you - don't converse with them at all. If they try to threaten you with letters etc - don't even open them - just bin them and never let them into your house under any circumstances.

I had a lot of respect for the bbc long ago. It’s sad to see the state of it in the past few weeks especially.
Well, by paying attention the those that "shout" the loudest on social media, they got it wrong about how the majority of people felt with the referendum and especially the last election.

Being in my seventies, I well remember those halcyon days when newsreaders actually just read the news and left sensible adults to form their own opinions. When all TV programs, from newscasts to childrens TV are nuanced to reflect a corporate political viewpoint, this descends to mere propaganda.
A good discussion and comes at a time I'm beginning to find it hard to watch news programmes anymore on the BBC. But it worries me too that we're all going to fragment into finding our own little niche. The BBC used to bring some cohesiveness to society so we shouldn't just let it slip away so easily, we must complain and fight as, the bottom line is, we darn well have to pay for it.
Emlyn Williams ...we do not have to pay for their propaganda....send them an email explaining why you no longer want to watch television, stop paying, and they will give you an exemption for two years and check back with you then...stop watching tv and get a life. I wrote a real letter to the licensing department of the BBC and said I was not willing to pay for Marxist propaganda and I would not be watching television anymore...therefore I would not be paying the fee and if anyone demanded entry to check on me they would have to get past my Rottweiler ...additionally as my son worked in television I knew that there never were any detector vans...it was all a hoax and it still is...they wrote back giving me a 2 year dispensation until they write to me again...I have just got my second two year dispensation....I only watch occasional dvds and I do not miss it one bit.
Go to tv licence website and make a declaration that you no longer need a licence - that’s the legal way to do it

Don't have a licence any more, instead I spend my license money on books, I find it much better than tv and you learn more. Most television is psychological programming nowadays.
I would suppose, any thinking person would like to know the political leanings of his/her favorite performer.
For instance I found it great comedy to witness Steve Koogan yelp like a shorn sheep against any possible entry into his private life.

There needs to be an English language TV channel , streamed with regular content such as this with all programmes stacked for onward viewing .

I have no TV specifically because I find the BBC repulsive and I refuse to give them money.
I stopped watching BBC TV a year ago, and gave now given up BBC Radio. Reasons: 1. Woke agenda (feminism, trans activism, etc). 2. Bias in news, current affairs, comedy, drama scripts etc. 3. Refusal to give platform to centre and right. Sooner they are gone the better.
Sky, Fox etc, yes it does make you feel as if you're living in an alternate universe. I feel like that with most TV and culture in general. Films are all about sex (probably because most Hollywood producers aren't getting what they desire) and death. I know that they are the great themes of literature but my word, the way they are executed in modern, mass-consumption media makes me feel like i'm Mary Whitehouse (masturbation scenes have been the in thing for a while now). I digress, we are experiencing an arc of existence that seems to be converging on the lowest common denominators of us as a species. I posit that this is a philosophical result of the capitalist system, everything is streamlined, marketed, packaged, simplified and ultimately we're experiencing the death of imagination and creativity, along with the birth of a vanilla-flavoured world run by corporations. Anyone who doesn't think that the leaders and financiers of the world aren't in cahoots and don't have a global plan is naive at the least.
