this is my earliest movie memory and to this day i still love this move, its a "Real" modern telling without needing to "fix or Change" the story morals or messages. to fit a "modern audience" i had such a crush ofn Kristy McNichol. long live the 80s! may we never die!
Your opinion is legit. If you read my notes on the upload, I mention how the critics hated it but the fans loved it. Basically, they made a modernized and very 80's spin of "Penzance". The blending of the classic story with some modern pop made a good formula for a fun movie. People like you are why I posted this soundtrack. For the fans who just want to enjoy them.
Thanks for you comment Dianne, I agree. It's just one of those movies that you watch just to sit back and enjoy without having to over-think it and the music is so contagious that you find yourself spontaneously humming the tunes without really thinking about it. I know, it's happened to me too.
Hey buddy, just wanted to give a shout out as well. Thank you for putting this out there. Similar story: I used to see this on HBO as a kid with my Mom too, and watching it always makes me think back to then, with my folks, growing up. Sorry for your loss, but hope the film brings you good memories. Incidentally, given all of the self-aware parodies out there nowadays (like even all the XXX vs. Zombies and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer types), I'll wager this movie might have done better today as an intentionally campy, fun movie. Alas, in 1981, I think there was much less appreciation. That said, I do think the musical version of HE is better than the rock version, but both serve their purposes ;)
Hey Ted, thanks for that kind response. I really appreciate it. As to your point about it being too far ahead of it's time, maybe, and maybe not. I'm just grateful for those times and people I had in my life back then. But I do see you're point about the times and sensibilities being different to appreciate a good joke in a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'll have to think about and let it peculate in my brain a while. Oh, and sorry for the slow reply, 3 years late. You know how it goes, life happens and everything else has to be put on pause for a while.
So I tried to get a wig maker to make me a McNicol off the shoulder, long on the top wig and was going to wear a white dress hiked up and skip around...but alas, sigh, the wig didn't turn out quite like I wanted!
The film received some bad reviews over the years, I suppose for reason of it predominantly spoofing Pirates of Penzance. Sort of baffling given that the plot was a lot more coherent than some the CG-focused films being released these days. Its held together a lot better than spoof films such as Top Secret, a film that really was a case of "spot that outdated pop culture reference". Just my opinion though.
OMG... This is a treasure. This hit me very hard in my childhood memory. This soundtrack is amazing
I was so in love with this movie and Kristy!!!
I have it on DVD because I loved this movie so much when I was a youngster. Loved the music. A campy, witty 80’s treasure. Thanks for sharing.
this a must for any of us 80s children .. to re-live a happier time.. :)

This song was an epic....I love this movie
The movie had such a wonderful soundtrack, and I find myself occasionally humming songs from it.

thanks for this! Couldn't find it for sale or stream apart from the original 7" single

Wanted that dress and a boy with nice leggings to fall in love with me. Sigh. Loved this movie

You're Welcome Michael. It's my pleasure
How good is this shit?
I prefer the cast version.
For me the end credits is cool.
so for me it depends on the kind of mood I am in....

HI, what does the OST stand for?
Official sound track x
Hated the movie, LOVED this song!
I liked the movie but loved the music.
This version is better than the cast version. The beat is similar to Santana's You Know That I Love You but same shuffle and tempo.
@@joshuajohnson2216 I never heard that song, maybe i will look it up later
