I watched this at least twenty times in the early days of cable when I was a kid. Haven't seen it for decades, but watching it again I remember everything about two seconds before it happens, I can almost remember it word for word. Loved this movie as a kid. My family was confused. Still love it!
So, it only took me 40 years to catch on, lol. I saw this in the theater at 13 and was absolutely charmed by it. I saw it as an adult and thought about what ridiculously amateurish choreography this was. Later on I realized how brilliant it was. I mean, really, isn't this exactly what an adolescent girl would come up with in an epic dream at her age at that time? Absolute genius! What an insight!
I know I do. I saw this movie when it came out on WHT (A cable channel on New York City that's gone out of business) back in the 1980's and I still love it.
This song lives in my head rent free when my mom showed it to me in like kindergarten. I'm 18 now and probably one of the only gen z's to know this movie exists
If I'd ever had kids, this is one movie I would've wanted them to watch at some point. Along with Phantom of the Opera (2004), the original Poltergeist, Repo! The Genetic Opera...
does anyone else think watching this as a kid has reflected upon their current positive outlook on life? things just seemed so much more simple. i love this :) i hope your all awesome
I can not believing showing this movie to my children, my sister and I still know all the songs and dances. Watching this movie and Dr. Detroit is the only time we get along.
I love this movie no one I know has ever seen it😭 me and my partner put it on every other month and sing our hearts out laughing out heads off such a classic movie 💕
Such a cheesy movie, and I love everything about it! I remember going to see this numerous times at the theater and never tired of it...and still don't! I miss the 80s...best decade ever
I frigging LOVE this movie! What a lot of people didn't get but I did... and probably you guys too... this was as much a parody of 80's musicals and romances as it was The Pirates of Penzance. So all the hate this movie gets on the cliche content is like... do you guys not understand how parody works? And I have carried Happy Ending with me since I was a kid 42 years ago.
I've loved the wackiness of this film since i was a kid, and still watch it to this day😂 For a perfect WTF movie double feature watch this and Grease 2 , FYI both made in 1982 😉
Way to go Annakin! I saw this when it premiered in the theatre back in the early 80s, and this song used to serve as my end of day tune too. I still have the LP in my closet (which is where I was back in 1982 when I had a crush on both McNichol and Atkins).Great memories.
Watching HBO alone at my aunties house while she was out running errands was always awesome because I got to watch movies like this. 1982 take me back!
This was made in Queensland, Australia and Norman Gunston (Australian comedian) played the lanky police officer in it. I haven't searched it out in years, but nice to see this part again. Brings back memories. I was 22 when this was made and had just come back from a trip to Queensland. I am in South Australia, so that was the reason I looked for it at the cinema. Anyway nice seeing all the positivity in the comments here for such an old movie. I know Chris liked it as he recently said in an interview that he did.
Haha and we still do in 2024. Sadly there is no chance in hell that MAGA, Trump or his minions would ever sing this song. Unity, forgiveness and love are not their forte. They are basically orcs
Holy Flashbacks Batman! This came out when I was ten and I took the music and made a live song for a girl in my class I had a crush on! Thank you for posting this vid!
I still love this movie now after first seeing it at the age of 12 in 1988 I rented it from my local video shop those good old days of rented VHS lol. Pre-cursor to the UA-cam parodies of today with the Star Wars, Jaws and the Inspector Clouseau references lol.
I know what you mean I was 10 in 1982 when this came out and loved it but my favorites was hysterical the music man (the original) grease 2 I sung let's do it for Our country and reproduction in the talent shows I got in a little trouble afterwards lol but I won also loved jake speed movie
This is a favourite of mine,I know it back the front. Songs and all. 🎉 I still dream of a happy ending. Loved Frederick mmmm. Biggest crush though was the Pirate king.
This just popped in my head for the first time in 30 years. Will have to rewatch. I had a Beta Max pirate movie of The Pirate movie in the early 80s. The irony of that just registered now. 😂
I was 9 old when I saw this movie 🎥 . The keystone cops 👮♂️ were hilarious and entertaining 🤣. The Pirate ☠ King 🤴 was a good actor. Everyone did a great in putting this musical 🎼 together. Thank You! 😊 So much.
The Pirate King is played by veteran actor Ted Hamilton. He is very well known here in Australia as a musical theatre star although probably less well known to international audiences. He's also known for his tireless charity work. An all around good guy!
As a kid I had no idea that this was based on the pirates of Penzance. I’d never heard of it. I loved the campy fun silly nature of the movie. When I found out it was from a play I saw the play and loved it. The place where this was filmed was only 10 mins from where I lived.
I watched this on HBO at my parents when I was younger. This is the days when HBO was a silver box on top of the TV with a switch to activate it. The good old days when things were less complicated and easier. Not the best movie but it has sentimental value in my heart. We had HBO only in my parents bedroom so on a Saturday night we would watch a movie on it it, this one was one, and pass out. My dad would take me and my siblings back to our rooms and then Sunday morning would come and he would make pancakes, eggs, bacon and fresh OJ for breakfast. This was the best times of my childhood.
I don't care what the critics say, I love this movie so much!! I recently made my partner watch it with me and she didn't hate it! This song just makes me smile like an idiot.
OMG!! I remember! We were dreaming about that movie! It was so good :) "Give me a happy ending, eve-ryyy time! At the end "Mable" said "is someone can take my gums?! We hope that you had as much fun as we did!"
Gotta love Kristy and Christopher in this 80s Classic! When he picked her up off the beach and she looked into his eyes Wow That's what fairytales are made of! I Wonder Where Can You Buy This Movie At?
I’d watch this movie on HBO at my grandma and grandpas house a million times a weekend. Man those were some good times. Miss the 80’s dearly.
Used to be a fav
Undoubtedly. Watched it a thousand times when it came out on HBO. Miss the songs. :(
80's me please

SAME! I was OBSESSED!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's heard of this movie

No!
@@youtubecensors5419 Same here I used to watch it as a kid back in the early eighties!
A cherished part of my childhood which introduced me to Gilbert and Sullivan.
Yep! Must’ve seen this movie 100x growing up in the 80’s! Hilarious to rewatch as an adult and see all the innuendos that flew over my head 😆.
The ending with the entire cast dancing across the lawn is the most beautiful thing ever! LOVE this song!!!
I like how the pirate kings woman slaps his rear end and he reacts. He claimed in an interview that was not in the script lol
Who tried to dance along with this? Not me😂😉
So, it only took me 40 years to catch on, lol. I saw this in the theater at 13 and was absolutely charmed by it. Except Kristy McNichol wasn't an adolescent at the time. She was only playing one.
Then it’s a good thing he means the character and not the actress 🤨
Me too. Three times in the cinema. Peace for an Anger heart.
It certainly was not the Disney choreography for “how does she know” from Enchanted! I loved this film as a teen in the 80s.
I have a homemade soundtrack tape I recorded while staying up past my bedtime watching it on cable😂….core memory
Ok, I will always love this song and movie.
I know I do. I saw this movie when it came out on WHT (A cable channel on New York City that's gone out of business) back in the 1980's and I still love it.
I can't stop loving this. An 80s song bleeding over into my teenage years. EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT FINE.
Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins are so cute in this movie! Love the great costumes!
This song lives in my head rent free when my mom showed it to me in like kindergarten. I'm 18 now and probably one of the only gen z's to know this movie exists
i know! im 17 and wish i knew more people who knew this movie
If I'd ever had kids, this is one movie I would've wanted them to watch at some point. Along with Phantom of the Opera (2004), the original Poltergeist, Repo! The Genetic Opera...
God bless you.
Nice dude I'm 22 and have loved this movie since my mom showed it to me as a kid
Same
Still one of the most joyful movie ending songs ever, even 40+ years later ❤
does anyone else think watching this as a kid has reflected upon their current positive outlook on life? things just seemed so much more simple. i love this :) i hope your all awesome
It has made a positive influence on my life.
I would definitely say so! It also helped influence my love of sexual innuendo in humor.
SUCH a fun movie
I am the little clam that hides itself in the sand
I can not believing showing this movie to my children, my sister and I still know all the songs and dances. Watching this movie and Dr. Detroit is the only time we get along.
July 2020, and still loving the Pirate Movie. x

I still absolutely love this movie 😂 still singing the songs like it’s only just come out 😂💕 🏴☠️
Wow! It was our movie!!!
Just dancing in those heavy costumes is a feat in itself
Actors are really amazingly talented
Love this movie so much that when I went to Australia, I visited this location!
It was filmed in Australia!!!
I'm Australian And LOVE this film
It was filmed at the Werribee mansion and on the great ocean Rd.
I'm sure that was a real treat!
Hey you visited me! 😁 Sadly I don’t live in that area though 🥺
Lady Bird I'm Australian too, I visited the place when I came to Melbourne in January 1999. I'm from Newcastle, New South Wales.
She looked so beautiful in this movie. Couldn't take my eyes off her. This tops my list of guilty pleasures.
Love this movie. Have to listen to this song every so often. Used to watch this movie with my grandpa. One of our favorites to watch together.
I frigging LOVE this movie! What a lot of people didn't get but I did... and probably you guys too... this was as much a parody of 80's musicals and romances as it was The Pirates of Penzance. Exactly x
I've loved the wackiness of this film since i was a kid, and still watch it to this day😂 For a perfect WTF movie double feature watch this and Grease 2 , FYI both made in 1982 😉
Okay, I love Grease 2! As much as I love ONJ, I think 2 was better than Grease. Better storyline too.
@@katemaloney4296 the ending song in grease 2 was beautiful

No it was made in Victoria. The mansion is in Werribee near the zoo. Then you have loch ard gorge and the old ship polly woodside in melbourme.
Hoping the entire planet sings this song together at the end of 2020. We NEED a Happy Ending to this year!

I want this played at my funeral.
Good idea!!!! I may have to make note for myself.
Such a GREAT MOVIE!! Very colorful, romantic & entertaining. Wish it had been a bigger hit- it was so FUN!!! Atkins & McNichol were brilliant.
