MWO Build & Skills : MXPL Monster BlackJack

- The Inner Sphere Medium weight class is full of unique mechs like the Yen-Lo Wang, Arrow, Onyx and other fun mechs. One of the fun builds available for c-bills is actually the BlackJack-1X which is heavily quirked for medium laser boating.
While offensive very strong with the +25% range and -35.5% Medium Laser Heat Generation, this build is defensively very weak which hinders it from being an OP mech (which is good). Bad hitboxes, medium mech armor and the fact it can't jump just makes it such a glass cannon in game that is great for farming the enemy only if they allow themselves to be farmed....

You were hanging out there that first match. That mech will probably work well with an Atlas-RS large X-pulse build. They'll fear the Atlas before they fear you, and both of you would wreck anyone who tries to fight you. It obviously works well in a lance.
Yeah, I didn't have the range or the armor to go wide to the left so I just hung out and covered that D5 corner in case foolish fast movers push that corner. Hoping they would aggro on me and not realise the whole team was behind me 🤭
Sadly didn't happen so had to pull back. No point being a glass cannon being tip-of-the-spear.
Having a scarier mech in front definitely helps but smarter ones will target the puny Blackjack. Also, I feel I tend to draw a bit more aggro than normal nowadays (but probably perception bias) so I'm reprogramming my gameplay to be more careful. - BrioS
@@ClanBRxV Bah! A guy has to do what a guy has to do. I'm too aggressive unless I play a sniper. Besides, I'm not sure being cautious is the way to go with half the team being too cautious/timid. At this point, just play to enjoy yourself and don't be an easy target for the comp players as they practice. The game is a mess and just have fun with it while it lasts.
Don't have it, but the Phoenix Hawk I have can do the same. Hot!
This one has insane heat quirks so it can do a lot of damage in a short time. Phoenix Hawk has JJ and mobility so less brutal but more tactical. - BrioS
mech/build is good. LOTS of damage out of a med mech you just gotta be careful.
want a bruiser? run 8x mxpl on the battlemaster with a +2 medium laser HSL. easy 4 digit damage games.
There are a few good assault X-pulse boats out there like the Charger-1A1 (showcased it some time back), Battlemaster like you mentioned and a Banshee (which I probably will look into one day). XPLs ain't exactly my favourite weapon performance-wise but they can be so fun at times 😁 - BrioS
Running something similar but running it with a STD 200 and an extra DHS (16 total) from memory
Also tried running it with 7 and then 6 MxP. Less burst but way bet sustained damage
Also, I am a bit of a potato so I tend to have a string of bad games followed by the very occasional amazing game where no one looks at the Black Jack and I can rack up heaps of damage
The fun part about this build is the ability to pump out loads of damage in a short time (due to relatively high burst DPS for an MXPL build and massive heat quirks). Really fragile but so fun.... - BrioS
Speaking of hitboxes, I think I’ve only ever been headshot in a BJ.
Blackjack cockpit is somewhere slightly above the centre so people aiming dead centre have an above average chance of hitting it. Jagermech is worse in this aspect.
Headshots are still pretty rare, especially if one is moving, so I often strip head armour on faster mechs. - BrioS
it would appear med x pulse boats are also good for kill stealing
Shooting kills mechs, simple as that. Sometimes you steal, sometimes it's stolen. Sometimes more, sometimes less. - BrioS
so actually, i am going to retract all the BS i have said in a previous comment: that thing is really strong, based on the 4v4 b33f queue for mediums, 25 dps, more than many assaults
it could be too strong actually, maybe time for a nerf mr cauldron?
Well, it is very good at dealing damage and this seems disgusting if the enemy doesn't know how to position, doesn't shoot back and doesn't twist .
EQ is basically arcade mode with no MM so one gets mixed up with all tiers and everyone is derping around with those modifiers so EQ is not a basis for balance.
As for QP, the flaws of this mech are glaring (especially against opponents with skill) and this makes this mech balanced as it is. Without the insane offensive quirks, this mech is just going to be crap and not played.
That being said, Cauldron does test and monitor stuff all the time and that's why quirk passes for seemingly random mechs (eg. Cicada in March patch) get a quirk pass.
Anyway, glad you enjoyed this build 😁 it is very fun.... - BrioS
@@ClanBRxV i saw MPG play against this in 4v4 and he was extremely frustrated by this build. If the BJ1X pilot is skilled as well, it is not an easy opponent, it is particularly good at destroying the legs of fast lights
this is way too hot, you have to stop shooting very fast, the point of a stare build is to be able to sustain some constant fire for a long time
then you have an xl, with those horrible hitboxes, and having to stare on top of that, survivability is ephemeral
and it is short range, your best bet is to stick behind an assault maybe? and even then it is a very difficult build to pilot and manage
A stare build does not have to have lots of sustained to be good, It has a lot of burst DPS so you don't need to have lots of sustained because you do so much damage in such a short period of time.
And it's not even that hot because of the huge heat quirks.
you kill whatever you stare at with this. ive run this setup since xpl came out
