The tourists lack of respect is appalling to me. These guards and horse guards are there working. They're not there for you to make fun of or for your pleasure. Back off, get your picture and leave. No touching on the horses either. Good grief. Show the world that you're not idiots.
touching the horses isn't so much the issue. The sentry will tell you you are welcome to pet the horse. When you grab the reins, the horse interprets that as you taking control. You never take control of a mounted horse unless you are that sentry's superior. It's military tradition, respect, and common sense. Moving the reins in the wrong manner could cause the horse to buck, charge, or become agitated.
I'm appalled at the ignorance of people in general. I guess people don't care about others traits and customs .look what the world has done to a wonderful country' they now are packing heat it's gonna go all the way backwards to at least western days u grow your own food and u learn how to respect others and there horses I promiss I'm there when I open the door with my colt 45 strapped on my hip u might talk with respect and no u can't pet my horse. 😂 love the uk

As much as I agree on the attitudes of these tourists I do think these guards are a joke. Almost every monarchy is. The faxt that such an institution still exists defies logic and humanity. Especially regarding the travesties that have been committed in the name of these royals. These guards are left over from a reality that shouldn't exist anymore. It's so ridiculous how many people have royals in high regard while they leech of their people like there is no tomorrow. Stop it already!

I still don't understand the thinking of these people who grab the reins. That horse stepped on his shoe on purpose. lol He probably has some poop on it also. I saw another horse step forward on a woman's flip flop shoe. She couldn't get it loose.
What’s really frustrating is that some of these people see tourist ahead of them being corrected for grabbing the reins-then they go up and do the exact same thing. 😔 Respect the soldier. Respect the horse. 💜
my fave (sorry, but it is...) is when the horse has had enough and bites someone. As soon as that person runs away, they're immediately replaced by another person...who stands in the exact same place as the bitten person. Then the second person is all shocked when the horse bites them as well! All the best to you!

After many years of reading or hearing the term, "Ugly American" and most likely in most cases well deserved its kind of comforting to see there are many other nationalities as equal or worse. Still revolting though to see this happen though, props to the soldiers for not totally losing it and lopping off a few heads.

I was in the navy on the aircraft carrier Independence. We ported at Portsmith. And took a train to London. My friend and I saw the changing of the guard. This was back in the 70's. People looked but did not touch. It's a shame our society has come to this stage of disrespect. These guards are just doing their job. They do not need to be harassed while doing their duties.

I remember as a child being taken to London in the late 70´s by my parents , my parents made it clear to us, `look, don´t touch and respect the distance`, they also told us that they were doing a job an important job. Well said. Totally agree. Remember when the Guards on duty at Buckingham Palace used to be outside on the street
outside the gates. They were finally brought inside the Gates and stood guard. All due to disrespect from tourists. One in particular was hit unintended by a Guardsman as she was taking the "Micki" and would not move out of a soldier as he was on duty. She sued and am not sure if she was given any money. There will always be rude and disrespectful people. Sadly the world in the time of "social media" is not social, friendlier or kind. Too much hate, anger, and a twisted sense of news. Even when not on-line. The anger is awful, between family, friends, and neighbours. Government leaders have become absolute scoundrels no longer leaders with much concern.
How I miss our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. A light has gone. I pray King Charles III does well as our new Monarch.

You do realize they are there for show only? Right? See the guys with body armor and automatic rifles? Those are the real guards. And they don't just stand there until they have to scream. They will peacefully stop 99% of problems with a simple warning.

Got yelled at and did it again most of them look at the Guards in disgust the two women in Red as well what don't they understand ignorance at its best. Why would you think it's okay to grab the horses rains? Or stand in the way of the guards. Or try to pet or get close to the horse when you can see the horse doesn't want you there. And then people get bit. Can't people read the signs? No common sense.
First of all: Never mess with a soldier on guard duty!

Third: Never mess with his duty position.

The guys with the body armour and rifles are police, not army or sentries. Some of the shouters served in Afghanistan, btw, and saw their buddies blown to pieces.

AS they say 1 yr ago. Thank goodness the MOD with the help of the local council have made it mandatory that no member of the PUBLIC are allowed to touch the horses. Also the Big White Line BOX is not allowed to be crossed or stepped into. The tourists do not like this & pretend they do not understand. They are cunning & disrespectful. These rules are needed now as security must be kept up in most of London. They have treated this place as a DISNEY THEME PARK instead of an army installation. About time authority & respect was given back to the troopers & their horses.

We're too tolerant in the UK. This was okay when people were raised properly and taught to have manners and respect, but times have changed and so we need to change too. Argentina has the right idea.

It's amazing to watch people in social situations. So many seem to automatically grab the reins without even considering the consequences. I'm betting if they were sitting on their own horse they wouldn't allow someone they have never seen or met before walk up and grab the reins. Though it may have happened, I've not yet heard anyone thank the guards and their horses for their service. Do people really think armed guards on horses are there for entertainment or a photo op? I guess I'd be getting into trouble by telling people "don't do that". The guards are very accomodating letting people get close while having to be on alert for any trouble that may suddenly arise and they are called to action. I, for one, wouldn't be the one in the way.
Now that people are selfie crazy, the whole world is supposed to be a photo op for them. It's freakin' sick.

I was quite pleased at the patience with which the constable explained the seriousness of touching the reigns. These are cavalry mounts, which are much more rein-sensitive than regular recreational horses. Responsiveness during rapid evolutions can mean the difference between life and death. None of these blokes would dream of grabbing a dog owner's lead, would he? They do not understand how serious life is about to be, when the Lifeguard moves his sabre from the slope to the carry. The very next move can be the slash. These soldiers have no idea whether some knavish attempt at subversion may be next.

In 1990 I was in London with school when a classmate attempted to touch a queen's guard's horse. He was warned once with the saber and upon second approach slapped over the hand with the broad side of the blade.

It is only when they grab the rein that the guard reacts. To take the rein of a soldier's horse is like putting your hand on a policeman's gun. The horse is a soldier or part of the equipment. When you take the rein you are taking control. It IS like stealing. Even if it weren't it is just plain disrespectful. Would you want someone to take your car keys without your permission?

I sometimes think some tourists see you as Disneyland toy soldiers who dress up for them so they can get their pictures, so when they go home they can show off their pictures. They don't realize your serving soldiers who do tour of duty which can send you anywhere in the world - war, or humanitarian duties. Please know that we know and appreciate yours and the horse service. Thank you.

@jdarcy1862they ABSOLUTELY ARE guarding. Whilst it may be partially ceremonial, their main purpose is actually to protect the royal family and the royal estate.
In other words, they aren't just there for pure ceremony. They are actually highly trained soldiers who also serve in conflict and field service, not just royal duties. They are all rotated depending on the season.
And yes, they are trained to use lethal force when necessary. Not dissimilar from any of the armed forces. If these ignorant people were considered threatening at all to the royal family or estate, they would be within their power and training to kill them. It's a division of the military and most people don't realise that.

I don’t know any of the protocols (American here) but it just seems odd that anyone would even reach for the reigns or the horse. Also, there is a sign posted right there that says the horse could bite or kick. This isn’t like visiting the characters at Disneyland.

The first man rubbing the horse's face was not disrespectful. The man was so gentle and kind. He truly seemed to love that beautiful animal. The horse seemed to love him as well. However it's still not a good idea to touch one of these horses without getting permission first. I am so glad for the Soldiers and Horses that they are smarter than some of the people they deal with everyday. If this tradition ever has to stop it will be because of foolish people not knowing respect.

Why do people think that it's ok to touch someone's horse. And grab the reins, try to take control of the horse. The guards have a sword in their hand, it's surprising that they hold back and not hitting them.
These idiots are lucky the horses don't end them. They were trained at one time to be war horses.
Never touch a horse without permission. Always ask even if the guards don't talk it is still respectful to ask.
I have been a horsewoman for decades, and more than once I have had someone on a walking trail (meant for both horse and walkers) grab or try to grab my reins while riding. It is a terribly dangerous thing to do. The horse becomes confused and upset, and I have had my mare start to rear because of her fear of some stranger grabbing at her face. The person doing this is in danger of being bitten or being kicked if the horse starts to rear , not to mention the danger to the rider if the horse rears over. If you do not know anything about horses or their training or their tack, please touch nothing, because you are putting yourself in harms way. The rudeness these ignorant people show towards the horses and riders of the Kings guard is unforgivable.

I’ve watched many of these before in other clips, but having such a concentration is almost too much to bear! Tourists....you can still get nice photos of you and the Kings guard when you stand off to the side without touching and distracting the guard and his mount. A bit of respect goes a long way and is not hard to do.

I cannot stand this disrespect. I've been to London as a US Sailor, respect is due to any Nation I been to. I would first off ask permission out of respect before I approach. The guards have more of a duty that a "show and Tell" thing tourists think. These are very honorable members in Service for their Country and their Sovereign. I'm now a retired US Sailor and offer a salute to the Guards.
