Emirates EK521 'The Arabian Miracle'

- The crew of Emirates 521 commenced their approach to Dubai International's Rw.12L, unaware of the fact that a number of aircraft up ahead had already discontinued their approaches due to the shifting winds.
As the B777 passed over the runway's threshold, headwind quickly gave way to tailwind, destabilizing the aircraft's flight path, ultimately forcing the crew to abandon their attempted landing & execute a missed approach. However, in the seconds that followed, a bizarre & unfortunate sequence of events conspired to undermine the crew's efforts, resulting in the aircraft crashing back to earth & ultimately being consumed by fire.
Although all on board evacuated successfully, the subsequent report into the events of that afternoon would eventually reveal serious deficiencies on the part of manufacturer & operator, deficiencies which left the crew blind sighted & ill prepared to deal with the fate which was to befall them.
Join me, while I explain in detail, the events leading up to the loss of Emirates flight 521
All my video content is FREE, but, as I hope you can appreciate for yourself, 'a huge' amount of time & effort goes into their production. So, if you've enjoyed what I've done & would like to recognise all that hard work by buying me a coffee no matter what size, I'd be delighted !! … www.buymeacoffee.com/callingoutW
Might also convince my wife that it's a good idea to keep doing this stuff 😉
Please, keep going.
The narration. The attention to detail. The comprehensiveness.
Already #1 in my book.
Cheers.
@@Enzoblueblood Many thanks for the kind words of support. I will so ....... 😉
@callingoutmayday yes...wonderful narration! And a thorough investigation! Thank you!
Can I just point out...how CHEAP does an airline have to be to decide not to install enhanced equipment on a 777? I think if I were a passenger I would sue that airline for that! Those poor pilots...thank God they all lived! And let's say a little something about the atc not warning the pilots about the prior 2 go-arounds!! 😡
No lives lost, in spite of limited exits and the total chaos in the cabin: “miracle” is the only word for it.
Glad to see you still enjoying my work 😎
This latest accident analysis of yours is, in one, word: PERFECT in every aspect of film making and professional analysis of this accident!
This poor crew was dealt a very bad deck of cards to 'play' with - right up to the moment when all the holes in the Swiss cheese aligned.
Thank you for, again, a very thorough yet very worthwhile video of yours! Kind regards from Switzerland from a retired ATP. Charles *
* who still can not udnerstand why you only have 1.84 K subscribers - you clearly deserve at least a hundred fold more than that..!..
Charles, again, many thanks for the supportive comments. Delighted to see your still tuning in 👍
Unfortunately the gear was retracted too early 😢. Also the passengers who stop to get baggage should be taken to jail. And Emerates is a really good airline so I hear. Very nice narration and thorough story...thank you!
You should do Northwest 255 next with the cvr included. These videos are so in-depth, it's amazing! Lemmino-tier stuff.
I read a book that was written by a Detroit Paramedic and First Responder on scene . The amount of gore made quite a few people retire early and some sought in patient consoling because of how traumatic the entire experience was for them 😔
Omg...horrible!@@dannys_last_stand
why do pilots need a toga switch, can't they just push the throttles forwards?
The idiotic reaction of passengers is quite shocking, more concerned with cabin bags than escaping a fire. I wouldn't want to be trapped behind that gaggle of utter morons, they should be charged.
Or left on board!
You're right
How awful a firefighter lost his life 😢
A baulked landing is a challenging and unusual manoevre. I've never done one.
Fantastic video! Stonkingly thorough. I'm wondering if you've considered any kind of ambient score? With such an extended narrative it might add a flourish to production quality.
Love the channel name BTW 😉
Very nice video.
IMHO the circumstances preceding the initiation of the go around sequence are anecdotal.
The key point in the accident sequence is the failure to verify and correct the application of engine power. Looking at the broader picture, company culture, training and procedures certainly were contributing factors. The near crash at takeoff a couple of years later in DXB confirmed that EK indeed had a serious systemic problem.
@JustMe00257 your point is extremely valid & well made.
Why though difnt airport tell crew the ones up ahead have abondeded landings
Yes indeed
Likely fear of a long lanfing QAR event played a part in this. A chum of mine was sacked for one at Aktau. Reported it, got binned.
