    What Spiritual Warfare Actually Looks Like: • What Spiritual Warfare...
    ----
    Demons. Many use the word, but we seem to use it in different ways. We use it metaphorically, as when we say, "He's wrestling with his demons" about characters facing inner conflict. But demons as actual, spiritual entities crop up in various religions (including Christianity and Hinduism), and even in popular entertainment (e.g. the film, "Paranormal Activity").
    Within Christianity, attitudes toward demons vary by denomination. Some pay them practically no attention at all, whereas others find demons under every rock and focus lots of attention on binding demons, casting out demons, etc. And then of course, if you listened to Christian hip-hop in the 1990s, you can probably remember many a track about fighting and slaying demons (T-Bone's "Demon Executor," anyone?).
    So, just what exactly are demons, really?
    On this episode, my guest is Michael Heiser, and he's going to reveal the truth about what the Bible and history actually teaches about demons.
    Michael S. Heiser is a scholar of the Bible and its ancient context. He earned his MA in Ancient HIstory from UPenn and his MA and PhD from University of Wisconsin- Madison (M.A., Ph.D., Hebrew Bible and Semitic Studies). He's taught biblical studies for over twenty years, he's worked as the Scholar-in-Residence at Logos Bible Software, and is currently Executive Director of the School of Theology at Celebration Church in Jacksonville, FL.
    Dr. Heiser has written several best-selling books on The Unseen Realm, Angels, and topics like Enoch, the Watchers, and the Forgotten Mission of Jesus Christ. He has written a ton of other books, over 100 articles for Bible Study Magazine and several peer-reviewed articles in academic journals.
    Dr. Heiser also hosts the Naked Bible Podcast and has a non-profit corporation, MIQLAT, which provides free translations of his biblical studies content in over twenty languages.
    As you can see, Dr. Mike Heiser is the perfect person to bring on to talk about this topic, and he'll be discussing his book, Demons: What the Bible Really Says About the Powers of Darkness, with Think Institute Founder Joel Settecase.

    After a lifetime of understanding that ‘ idols ‘ and ‘ false gods ‘ were just made up by men you come to the realization that the idols were real beings or fashioned after real beings

      Crazy to consider, right?

    • @trinidad17
      @trinidad17 3 роки тому +4

      Not all idols are demonic entities or representations thereof. Some are depicted as being inert: "Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see." Psalm 115:4-5 (ESV), which is also a common recurring theme in Isaiah. And Jeremiah expands on that saying: "Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good. [...] for his images are false, and there is no breath in them. They are worthless, a work of delusion;" Jeremiah 10:4,14b-15a (ESV).

      The idols, even the inert ones are made with the hope that the elohim will come and inhabit the idol. The final step of idol creation for many of the larger, ceremonial idols (statue sized opposed to the smaller home altar idols) was to "open the mouth" so the spirit will be able to effectively permeate the figure, it will be able to draw breath, etc.

    I've listened to loads of Dr Heiser's interviews and got his book Unseen Realm and I'm reading Reversing Hermon. Regarding Moses and the first five books, what seems to have been ignored, was that Moses spoke face to face with Yahweh for at least 40 years, so there would've been plenty of input from the Most High to write things down. That being said, there are schools of thought that support that books and writings were passed down from Noah etc and I'm open to that happening

    • @ShadowStarMicah24
      @ShadowStarMicah24 Рік тому +3

      @nopark70 Exodus 33:11-16 is just one of the places where it shows that Moses habitually spoke face to face to Yahweh. Numbers 12:8 is another example that shows their habitual relationship. If you read the Scriptures with the openness to see that it was daily or at least very very regularly, you'll see tons of examples - some explicit and some more subtle

    • @ShadowStarMicah24
      @ShadowStarMicah24 6 місяців тому +1

      @QDS2 I agree that one shouldn't make assumptions, but I stand by what I said. Exodus 33 shows that Moses habitually spoke with YHWH at the Tent of Meeting and says He spoke face to face as with a friend (and Joshua). Friends see each other regularly, and that seems to be what the writers were trying to communicate. Emphasising it in Numbers 12 leads one to believe that this relationship was different from YHWH's relationship with other humans. Like I said, if not daily, then at the very least VERY regularly. And why WOULDN'T it be the case? We've inherited for years that no one can see God, so we look at the Scriptures from our preconceptions and struggle with the idea of Yahweh having regular communication with Moses or any other character in the Bible. If we accept it could happen, it makes the Bible come alive in my opinion and points towards Yahshua being the exact image and expression of the Father.

    Genuine feedback. I don’t subscribe to channels that have a band streaming across the screen during an interview. This format, where you have two small windows showing you two taking turns, with a busy backdrop and a band streaming is SENSORY OVERLOAD for some viewers who desperately want to watch it but can’t.
    Maybe advertise your wares twice and leave it at that instead of constantly shoving it down our throats and taking away from the message of the guest.

      No I can’t do that on my device. But thank you for responding. I made this suggestion to bring awareness. There are a lot more people in this world that suffer from sensory overload that one might realise.
      It also comes across as desperate. Why do you need to advertise during the entire episode? That’s just overkill. And not really thinking of your audience. It takes away from the message of the guest. And not really a done thing anymore, because the serious UA-camrs are a bit more switched on.
      Not to mention that if you were to put caps on, you’d have trouble reading them over the banner.

    Best interviewer of Dr. Heiser ever. Thank you so much! Like I keep telling ppl who think our English Bible is corrupt and "mistranslated"....You really believe the Creator of the Universe CANNOT write a Book in English? The most widespread version being the KJV! Small minds. Dr. Heiser humbly relates the best perception and conceptual overview of how the One True Elohim works through corrupt men, whose "thoughts are ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY!" The one question that I would have liked to have answered, is the supernatural events of DREAMS AND VISIONS that get recorded in Scripture. Are these directly from our Heavenly Father's downloads or are they also downloads from the Elohim, Sons of God. RIP Michael, gone way too soon! Funny we judge some men righteous and some wicked, but the Scripture in Genesis and Isaiah, and Paul, classes us all as corrupt thinkers. NOT ONE IS RIGHTEOUS!....NO NOT ONE! Love the statement of Paul in 1Cor 8:2..."If any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth NOTHING YET as we ought to know." Neither have I heard Dr. Heiser ever comment on "Guardian Angels" that guard people individually and personally. The principle of high knowledge is this: too much knowledge and not in the correct order that humans can understand or are ready to comprehend ....it is "confusion of religion"...."Babylon" and leads to false worship. All the "Trees" in the Garden represented advance angel knowledge and "trees" symbolize "leaders". We have TMI and not in the right order....and NOT "meat in due season"! "EVERY Tree was good for food!" Genesis 2:9 ...even the Tree of Knowledge of Life and Death [Good and Evil] but THAT Tree was NOT GOOD food for humans yet until they had eaten from the Tree of Life FIRST. "Of ALL the Trees ye may FREELY EAT...but the One of way advanced Knowledge of DEATH [MESSIAH ON THE CROSS] will COST YOU SOMETHING! Interesting that the root word for "beguiled" in Hebrew means "to lend on interest". So THAT "Tree" of the Highest Knowledge lent her advanced knowledge with the thought that after she had comprehended it she would have to return it to the Highest Elohim with more advanced knowledge added to It. Thus Messiah gave the parable of the talents which is the exact same HIGH thought and principle. Adam had tilled the grape Vine to grow up on that Tree of Knowledge and that was the fruit that Eve actually partook of....not the fig that fell off as she plucked those grapes which were legal for her to eat. "Woman, God has not told YOU that you could eat from ANY of these Trees YET!" Woman, it is not good for you to have high Elohim knowledge at this time. So now we have EVERY MAN under their own vine and fig tree, instead of "under The Vine/Christ and The Fig Tree/Israel". In Torah, only the men were required to go 3 times a year and eat the feasts...same principle for Eve in the Garden...she had to start out eating what Adam tilled from the ground.

    This book, The Apocalypse of Ezra (2nd Esdras) explains why some books although inspired were never meant to be in the cannon………..
    took and drank, and when I drank it, my heart overflowed with discernment, my breast poured forth wisdom, and my
    * spirit retained memory. 4'My mouth was opened and was not shut. 42But the Most High gave understanding to the five men, and they wrote the things that were dictated in order, in written signs that they knew not. I sat there forty days, 43but they wrote by day, and at night did eat bread alone. I, however, dictated by day, and at night was not silent. 4In forty days ninety-four books were written.
    45 When the forty days were completed, the Most High said to me, "The first twenty-four books that you have written, make public, that those who are worthy, and those who are not, may read them; but keep the seventy separate and only allow the wise men of your people to study them.
    47 For they contain the veins of understanding, the fountains of wisdom, and the stream of knowledge.

    Non-canonical books can have true stuff in them. An auto repair manuel has mostly true stuff in it even though it is not canonical. Canonical prophets and apostles can quote true stuff from a non-canonical source without canonizing the book. Paul quoted (and then reinterpreted) ancient pagen philosophers and poets, but that doesn't make them prophets of God or their works canonical.

      We grow from grace to grace. By faith we put on the salvation of Jesus. By faith we accept the will of the Father as our will. We can confess, "I am the righteousness of God in Christ,Jesus." We are called, also, to holiness. "Be ye holy for I am holy." David would have called these quickenings or gifts of "the benefactor." With these we are also given eyes and ears with which to know God. We love God with all our heart, soul and mind. John reveals something more. He speaks of "the good part." No one is righteous or holy of himself. Neither can anyone be good of himself. But if you take the journey, you will come full cycle to the place where you follow Jesus example. Putting on the garb of the lowest household servant, you prepare to be the footwashing servant. You humble yourself and take the lowest place. This is a faith that knows the Goodness of our Father has forgiven us even before we err. We have the ability to become "sons of God" by an all-encompassing faith. When we can forgive a spouse for infidelity before it happens, that would be like God's love. When Jesus said, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone," he was pointing out that zisrael had no "sons of God" qualified to sit on the council. We ought to be able to bring our grievances to the church. The ought to be a council of men and women who know both the judgment and the forever mercy of our good God. These should be "sons of god" as John uses the term. These also have an ear to hear the "still small voice" which is God's voice breathed in the ear. (Some hear thunder while others hear God speak.)

      It also shouldn't be gainsaid that part of the serpent seed story relates to a particular 'beast of the field' who was cursed to go on its belly and eat the dust of the earth. while Jude explicitly says that 'Enoch...prophesied'. not just that certain writings state this, he then relates a very similar quote to the early portion of the first Book of Enoch. We must have enough faith to believe apostles and true prophets spoke and often wrote from divine inspiration as the Word of God tells us in no uncertain terms.

      @Bl_Radio 4 місяці тому

      @TheThinkInstitute ... except Heiser readily accepted phenomonology, personification, idiom, figures of speech, metaphor etc... in other parts of Scripture. I always found it interesting that he landed on the Gen 6 story to actully, literally being about the apkallu.
      Heiser often spoke of inspiration and expiration of scripture in terms of divine-human partnership that was routinely accomplished by way of accomodation.
      The thing i never could grasp with Heiser's presentation of this material was why and how he expected Gen 6 to be an exception where the Biblical authors were referencing and appropriating extra-biblical material, but also it is literally true... Marduk is a real being somewhere in charge of a cosmological geographical area according to his allotment from Yahweh... that's all well and fine if you just want to insist on it, but it seems more reasonable that this was phenomicological language that was personifying a spiritual reality the author believes to exist.
      The way these ancients concieved of the spiritual realm can still express and contain Holy Spirit truth about how things ARE without Azazel actually being a consuming, death-goat of the wilderness.

    Eve had to go to the border between the heavenly garden where they had conversation with God and the field. Like the child who turns 12, she walked dangerously close to the danger. She demonstrates a weakness. Did satan confuse her with this word ממנה or was this a telephone game gone wrong. She had the idea that good and evil either should not be consumed by the small portion (mene) of the hand(ful,) OR, it was not to be touched with the hand. We see this at first passover in not dividing the lamb and being required to consume the whole lamb. So, what was this redundant word. I suspect this is why manna means "what is it."

    Regarding the biblical writers and pagan myths, not only did the Hebrew prophets read books, but the pagans would have once knew the biblical God and the biblical account of creation. Did Homer get the idea of Achilles dying by a wound to his vulnerable heel from Moses and the Seed of the woman's being bitten on his heel (and then crushing the head of the serpent with his wounded heel)? Yes and no. He got it from the same source that Moses got it, yet without the superintending providence of God preserving the account, and/or giving the account anew to Moses. If the bible is true (it is), then all the pagan nations once knew essentially the Genesis account and progressively perverted it in different ways over time in their different locations. This pagan nation forgetting one detail while remembering another and twisting it, while another pagan nation remembering and garbling a different detail and forgetting still another.
    Is the Author of Genesis doing anti-pagan polemics? Yes. But he is not doing anti-pagan polemics by making up details that aren't historical, he is correcting garbled pagan mythology by remaking it historical. He is not "monotheizing" unrelated polytheistic myths, he is "RE-monotheizing" and "de-polytheizing" those "polytheized" pagan myths which were once historical truth. Everyone seems to forget that, according to the bible, all the nations of mankind once new exactly what happened in the first half of Genesis because their forefathers lived it and certainly passed the narrative down to them at least in verbal form. All of the nations knew Noah. All of them descended from him. Babel is the event that caused there to be more than one distinct pagan mythical belief system over time.
    Thus, the Hebrews did not copy ancient pagan myths and the ancient pagans did not copy Hebrew biblical history. They both got it originally from the same source, Noah, who was a prophet (God spoke to him). Although God through Moses (who was also a prophet) certainly corrected the version the Hebrews had through Terah and Abraham who, after all, were pagans themselves. Perhaps Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who were also prophets according to scripture ("...do my prophets no harm..."), also corrected, through the Holy Spirit, the Hebrew version that came down to them through Terah.
    I get why sinful unbelievers would make the slanderous charge of plagiarism against the bible. What I don't get is why believers would pick up that same slander and parrot it themselves. Yes, the Hebrew prophets read pagan books, but they didn't plagiarize them - they corrected them by the Spirit of Prophecy. THAT, is why pagan myths and biblical history have similarities. To confess otherwise is to deny the historicity of the biblical narrative and therefore deny divine authorship of scripture and the authority thereof.
    TLDR
