So . . . last Christmas I ordered an industrial size of chamois cream, two new sets of Assos kit, and a silca frame pump, chain wax kit, and bottles of lube. I then handed each of the boxes as they came to the house to my wife, kids, and mother-in-law and announced that they'd completed their Christmas shopping for me and gotten exactly what I needed.
But guys, those Camelback lids are super *not* cleaning friendly, despite disassembly. I got rid of my Camelback lids because they got black mold which I couldn't get out. I don't have a dishwasher - perhaps if I did, fine. I don't.
My wife buys me kit at least once a year as a gift, and she nails it every time. That’s because I buy cheap stuff and she buys me expensive kit I would never buy for myself. All my favorite kit came as a gift from her. :)
My wife got us both an entry to the Maratona dles Dolomites (with the concomitant trip to Italy of course). Best gift of all time. Experiences beat material things, every time.
If this electric pump had replaceable batteries and used 18650 or 21700 stuff (3.7V, 5000 mAh), I would probably get one. But as it is, it is simply e-waste - their website says you can only pump up a 28 mm tyre to 5.5 bar *three* times, which would mean 2 at most for my 38 mm Trigger Pro. This is a joke, you would have to still bring a regular pump along because things can easily go wrong with tyres and tubes.
@TearmoonBroadcasting thats why I think regular portable pumps are better, even if there is a limit on psi or bars for portable pumps, you can inflate tyres up to a higher pressure just pressing faster and stronger until you cant go any further haha
Event entry is a dangerous gift, so easy to get it wrong. I once got a friend of mine, who liked to do the occasional run, an entry for a (slightly hilly) trail half marathon. She didn’t have the same level of excitement you talk about and when she actually did the event afterwards her words were “I hate you!”
I use a hydration pack when I ride my 90 mile + rides. I can't carry that many bottles and sometimes you just can't find a place to get refills. I would rather not risk it in the summer high heat/humidity to go without.
I watched this with my partner… cracked up with the pizza cutter and the steel bidón. She had actually given me both as presents ❤. All the ideas were on point! We need a list with 20 pls!
Asked for a bike thong a few years ago, didn;t explain what it was and good lady seemed freaked out until she actually googled it. This year I have asked for chamois cream.
I agree that pro cyclist autobiographies make terrible gifts. Not because they are all the same, they are not. For example, Jensies’ book is very different from the story you described. Autobiographies make terrible gifts because if it’s about someone the recipient likes, they probably have already read it, and since cycling is a sport of perceived heroes and villians, you might be giving your friend or loved one a book by and about someone they really do not like at all. Great video, keep the good work. Cheers!
I asked for a Crank Bros pedal refresh kit for Christmas. Genuinely excited to get it... "Is there anything else he wants? It's a bit boring." I'll probably get some socks I don't want.
I have to dispute the hydration backpack advice. I use one when riding both my mountain and road bikes. When you are 50 miles into a 100 mile ride and cannot refill your water bottles, the backpack is a lifesaver.
My best xmas present is some way to ensure that this video pops up in "Auntie Pat's" UA-cam Playlist so I don't get ANOTHER novelty bike tool in the shape of a bike for my keyring, but without her knowing I put it there.
As a person who contends with 3 pizza cutters in bike format.... Please stop! On a side note, brilliant idea about a race entry, off to sign up husband to run a trail race 😂
Think my friends have broken all the rules, except number 5. But for a 65 guy nothing says "Go ahead and try and drop me." like wearing Hello Kitty socks while wearing a bright pink Hello Kitty jersey with Hello Kitty handle bar tape and drinking our of a Hello Kitty water bottle (correct style). At least there is something to talk about at the end of the ride.
If you really really LOVE ❤ the cyclist in your life - buy them a Mountain Bike! 😂😂😂 Failing that, some decent coaching so the rest of us don't have to hear "Just Send It" echoing around the trails - followed moments later by ear splitting "Arrrrrrrrrrrrrggghhhh" as skill deficiencies meet the reaities of gravity🏨⚰. Happy Christmas🍻 🏴🎄
Great plan but one flaw ....unless Aunty Pat watches GCN we re screwed.. i think you need to appear on Loose Women or other non descript daytime telly then we might get good cycling pressies....Good effort though
Is there icterus epidemic at GCN? Sorry, I could not resist, the colors are a bit off in the post-production (and I'm watching on a X-Rite calibrated screen) 😀
I quite like the idea of name stickers for frames like the pros have. Might want to ask the recipient if he/she wants a real name or a nickname on the sticker though..
I have used a Camelbak for over 20 years on my road and MTB rides and races. I have noticed more and mroe people becoming wise to having more than 2 bottles of liquid, tools, tubes, spare gels for the long rides all neatly stored together and soon forgotten while riding on your back. Not to mention the safety of not looking down to replace your bottles in a close group and the now proven aero benefits. Anyone who says it is a no no is only perpetuating elitism in our sport.
Yes , hate the socks……. A new bike would do it , a professional fitting spot would also be good, discount vouchers for bike parts ….. well dreams are made up of what is useful…..
#askgcntech would that topeak pump work good enough to too up tires between rides? If i dont ride for a few days (shocking, i know) my tires drop about 7-10 psi so i just check/infoate them as needed and i need a new digital pump.
Would you agree with this list? 👀 Let us know what's on your Christmas wishlist down in the comments below! 👇
A shadow stand, so you can "Super nice" my bike
A bike fit (with a reputable fitter). It’s pricey, but also something that many people won’t buy for themselves.
So . . . last Christmas I ordered an industrial size of chamois cream, two new sets of Assos kit, and a silca frame pump, chain wax kit, and bottles of lube. I then handed each of the boxes as they came to the house to my wife, kids, and mother-in-law and announced that they'd completed their Christmas shopping for me and gotten exactly what I needed.
So first you recommend lube, then a gadget that vibrates (on the table at least). I see what you did there.
But guys, those Camelback lids are super *not* cleaning friendly, despite disassembly. I got rid of my Camelback lids because they got black mold which I couldn't get out. I don't have a dishwasher - perhaps if I did, fine. I don't.
I received a bicycle kickstand for Christmas because they noticed I leaned my bike against walls.
😂
Whomp whomp.
Honestly and without irony one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever heard off.
Bet you wish they'd got you a Shadow Stand!
@@fabianbinder3681 It was very thoughtful! But clearly they had no knowledge of cycling enthusiasts 😂
My wife buys me kit at least once a year as a gift, and she nails it every time. That’s because I buy cheap stuff and she buys me expensive kit I would never buy for myself.
All my favorite kit came as a gift from her. :)
She's a keeper!
You lucky man.😊
I wouldn't have guessed that Ollie's super villain origin story involved a lunchbox. Thanks for sharing, man. You're still growing.
At the top of every cyclist's Christmas wishlist this year: the aero backpack.
USWE Race 2.0
Definitely not!
Yes! The Pioneering Bike Backpack!
Damn that’s rough 😂😂😂😂
Some energy gels and bars are generally a good thing. Happy to get those, cheap and useful. Excellent.
Lube and that vibrating pump....the mind reels.
Imagine asking for a chain whip. Dear old auntie would be right put off...
The cyclist’s combo pack: lube, vibrating pump, and chain whip
My wife got us both an entry to the Maratona dles Dolomites (with the concomitant trip to Italy of course). Best gift of all time. Experiences beat material things, every time.
I like socks. And the goofier, the better. I don't do the white sock thing
about the electric tyre inflator... i think a regular portable pump is far lighter and reliable, dont waste your money buying it
If this electric pump had replaceable batteries and used 18650 or 21700 stuff (3.7V, 5000 mAh), I would probably get one. But as it is, it is simply e-waste - their website says you can only pump up a 28 mm tyre to 5.5 bar *three* times, which would mean 2 at most for my 38 mm Trigger Pro. I laughed out loud at the sight of Olly emerging from a wooded area wearing truly crap kit 😳😂😂
This was so unassumingly hilarious. Thank you so much!
I use a hydration pack when I ride my 90 mile + rides. I can't carry that many bottles and sometimes you just can't find a place to get refills. I would rather not risk it in the summer high heat/humidity to go without.
Same. I can easily go through a bottle per hour when it's hot out. The pack is a lifesaver.
I was with you on the kit, until you showed that lederhosen jersey. Who wouldn't want that?
It can be worn twice a year - April 1, and Halloween.
@@andrewmcalister3462 And October !!
It's so bad, it's awesome
I love ugly Christmas kit at the end of the year
How about the new sculptured GCN "Dan Lloyd" Body Suit - you can enjoy Dan's health success without the 7 months of effort!
I watched this with my partner… cracked up with the pizza cutter and the steel bidón. She had actually given me both as presents ❤. All the ideas were on point! We need a list with 20 pls!
Good call on entry to an event, even if it's a local charity ride. Everyone's a winner.
Asked for a bike thong a few years ago, didn;t explain what it was and good lady seemed freaked out until she actually googled it. This year I have asked for chamois cream.
Love you guys!! You have truly helped launch me into the Christmas Spirit!!
Loved the summary of a pro cyclists autobiography! This description fits almost all.
Best pressie: voucher for local bike shop.
I agree that pro cyclist autobiographies make terrible gifts.
Not because they are all the same, they are not. For example, Jensies’ book is very different from the story you described.

Great video, keep the good work. Cheers!
The end explained very well why Connor was so keen on doing a Tech channel video. 😁
Silca chain Wax does not work as deodorant. (Never make my mistake.)
I made the opposite mistake but at least my chain smells nice
My better half got me a Marmite jersey with "Hate Jams" on the back. I like it! Especially when I'm zooming past a long queue of cars.🙂
I asked for a Crank Bros pedal refresh kit for Christmas. Genuinely excited to get it... "Is there anything else he wants? It's a bit boring." I'll probably get some socks I don't want.
Park Tool pizza cutter FTW. Always. Although the Park Tool BO-1 or BO-2 also does nicely.
Got a Phillips Screwdriver Set for my Bike for Chrstimas some time ago. At least there was a Flashlight with it :)
cycling Calander has always been appreciated for me
Merry Christmas 🎄 😊
4:40 LOLOLOL! Nailed it Ollie!
"I'd name myself the Giant"...😂
I think Connor wants a 'The Giant' sticker for Xmas lol
I have to dispute the hydration backpack advice. I use one when riding both my mountain and road bikes. When you are 50 miles into a 100 mile ride and cannot refill your water bottles, the backpack is a lifesaver.
Connor, I love your Hans Klopek cosplay!
My man going deep at 5:49 😂😂😂
This was brilliant. Laugh out loud worthy. God gift ideas too
Great video!
I’m trying to play this at full volume next to my wife so she gets the subtle hint… wish me luck 🍀
I think parktool pizza cutter without campagnollo bottle opener is waste of money)
My best xmas present is some way to ensure that this video pops up in "Auntie Pat's" UA-cam Playlist so I don't get ANOTHER novelty bike tool in the shape of a bike for my keyring, but without her knowing I put it there.
Whenever a close riding buddy gets a new bike, I buy them name stickers as a bike warming present.
I would love to get novelty socks!
Novelty socks are great! The park tool pizza cutter is damn good , use mine a lot
Big ass seat cushion❌
Handlebar grips❌
Reflectors❌
Tassel strings❌
Kickstand❌
Excellent Thanks
Thanks guys!, I'm sending this to my sister because I do not want to receive another vanity set this year lol
As a person who contends with 3 pizza cutters in bike format.... Please stop! On a side note, brilliant idea about a race entry, off to sign up husband to run a trail race 😂
I have a Park Tools BBQ Tool Set that I also think is an acceptable novelty item. Me and a friend bought one for a fellow cyclist's 50th birthday.
enjoyed this
How about the "novelty" Lance Armstrong seat cover? Or, "novelty" bicycle specific truck nuts? Or, get both as a "novelty set???
Think my friends have broken all the rules, except number 5. But for a 65 guy nothing says "Go ahead and try and drop me." like wearing Hello Kitty socks while wearing a bright pink Hello Kitty jersey with Hello Kitty handle bar tape and drinking our of a Hello Kitty water bottle (correct style). As far as cycling kit, I put together a wish list of the styles and sizes I want and let anyone who wants to buy me any pick off from that.
F___ing hilarious! Thanks guys!
If they already have the Park Pizza Cutter, you can’t go wrong with the Campagnolo Big Corkscrew. Shimano wishes they’d thought of it first.
Shimano's would work better, but not look as nice
I'd name myself The Giant, LOL. Good one Conor.
Park Tool bottle opener is a good alternative if you already have the pizza cutter
saddle cover is the best gift I have seen in a minute
We all knew it was all going to be channel sponsors, before we even clicked.
We all knew the comments would contain a guy moaning about sponsors before we even clicked
Great plan but one flaw ....unless Aunty Pat watches GCN we re screwed.. i think you need to appear on Loose Women or other non descript daytime telly then we might get good cycling pressies....Good effort though
The best gift: A GCN subscription...of course ! Or, a subscription to a streaming service that covers bike races.
Number 1 a new bike, but the right size!
Number 2 a bike fit!
Number 3 a new pair of expensive tires
The Park Tool pizza cutter is the best way to cut carbs
🤣
Move over The Two Ronnies.......The Two Todgers are here.
As I would never buy it myself, I would love to get a Silca hex key luxury set in box as a gift 🙂
I agree, the Stanley Cup would be difficult to carry on one’s bike.
Unless you have a cargo bike
Friggin' goofs...love it😂
I quite like the lederhosen jersey. It brings out the Deutsch blood in me.
Are you mad at me Oli? You didn't tell me you love me
Is there icterus epidemic at GCN? Sorry, I could not resist, the colors are a bit off in the post-production (and I'm watching on a X-Rite calibrated screen) 😀
But even the Power Rangers lunch box raises many questions.
it was a different time
I quite like the idea of name stickers for frames like the pros have. Might want to ask the recipient if he/she wants a real name or a nickname on the sticker though..
Park Tool Grilling set.
"Why is Ollie describing my life???" 😀
Got to agree re kit, especially socks. People never get it right. Pizza Express though, you must be made of money !
Is there a video on the changes that’s going on with you guys going independent?
Oliver [middle name] Bridgewood! PUH-LEASE! Powerpuff Girls > Power Rangers Any day!
100% correct.
My wife hates the pizza cutter, I love it though.
Topeak pump is sold out everywhere 😢
I have used a Camelbak for over 20 years on my road and MTB rides and races. I have noticed more and mroe people becoming wise to having more than 2 bottles of liquid, tools, tubes, spare gels for the long rides all neatly stored together and soon forgotten while riding on your back. Not to mention the safety of not looking down to replace your bottles in a close group and the now proven aero benefits. Anyone who says it is a no no is only perpetuating elitism in our sport.
You look down to put your bottles in the cage?
@@Tneknos Nope because I wear a camelbak. LOL
It’s 5:40 AM, now I want pizza for breakfast.
Of course the first thing that Ollie recommends is chain waxing 😂
Oli and Conor think that a cyclist's autobiography cost the same as entry to Unbound...or even a sportive in the UK
Very funny..childish but funny😂
Yes , hate the socks……. A new bike would do it , a professional fitting spot would also be good, discount vouchers for bike parts ….. well dreams are made up of what is useful…..
Imagine lending someone an electric pump then it not having enough charge when you need it 😂
Traumatised Ollie's childhood issues hahahahaaaaaa
5 sponsorships in a row !
What is the stain on the cutter at 6:50? It looks like bearing grease. - Tim
#askgcntech would that topeak pump work good enough to too up tires between rides? If i dont ride for a few days (shocking, i know) my tires drop about 7-10 psi so i just check/infoate them as needed and i need a new digital pump.
A Park Tool "mineral water" bottle opener!!!
“ax” 🤣🤣
I’d buy the E-Booster in a heartbeat if it was readily available in the U.S.
Dont feel obliged to get the toppeak one
Pizza wheel, absolutely bulletproof
Nah, Park Tool bottle opener - brilliant 😊
Gift cards or cash money is the way to go!
Gift cards are a bit annoying to me, i don’t always want to buy from company x. Cash is king 😊
Universal vouchers. Aka Cash
£25 inexpensive!
Holy schmoley.
buy a "danger zone" sticker to anyone who forces you to use bike lanes!!
Ahhh, I wondered why GCN presenters always wear un-viz black on the road… the wrong gift!
hydration packs aren't suitable for mountain bikers either..
