First, I cannot believe it's been 30 years since Roc aired!! I absolutely loved that show, the cast, and the story lines. As with many of the "family friendly" shows of that era, they fall off/cancel as the world continued to change into the more extreme mimicking the current events of the time. So sad to hear so many of the cast have departed this life. Those were truly the days of great family TV.
I love Charles Dutton in every thing he acted in . He's so talented !! I cannot believe they won't put him and his talented self on TV, I and my family never issued a segment of Roc , I never missed a movie he acted in and yes he's underrated , he's a very good actor and we his fans are missing him on all screens !! 🎉🎉 Miss and love you Charles Dutton ❤
Rock was one of the greatest black shoes I've ever seen,I truly hope they would bring that show back,it was for sure one of America's best black TVshows
This is ridiculous, Dam, great actor. Whose dues are y'all seeing outta? Tracy Morgan shouldn't be nowhere on the scene, yet he's acknowledged. So mess up😮😮
"The hunt is on and you're the prey!" A powerful line from the movie Menace to Society. Those words rang in my ears as a young man and I repeated them to my sons.
Thats good to hear somebody got the message because that line should have sunk in to ALL the urban and inner city young men and women (black and brown) around America? Sadly, it didn't? I still commend Mr. Dutton for his steadfast efforts in doing so🙏
@@11Suncere Valid point my brother, I've tried to behave inclusively with my Brown brothers; but that divisiveness it's too thick. My Brown brother looks out for self. Today as I grow older, I try to conserve my energy having realized I will not save nor unite the world. I've tried to focus energy on my Black brothers and sisters, NOW!
It was positive so they stopped it. They always want us flashing our teeth, being buffoons. Price of Bell air, Good Times when they turned JJ into a clown and many others.
Those the WS power structure made their money and built Fox up on those shows, Fox wasnt Sht for a few years until they started producing those shows, and once they made their money they were like lets cut these Nigs...
Im a 70 yo white female. In my opinion, ROC was one of the best programs ever on TV. FOX blew it and to be honest I dont think I've watched more than 8 hours of TV in the past 25 years. Im an adult. I want real grown up thoughtful TV. Its doesnt exist anymore.
Loved how ya'll put up a different pic around @1:22 minute mark. I guess you all think we look so much alike that nobody would notice. His show got cancelled because the writers didn't want to focus on black people's lives. How is this tragic news??? We all know why his show and other black shows were cancelled back then. Reword the title.
The "tragic story" is in the truth you just now "spoke" ! This show was/is powerful in the message it conveyed about what it means to be family. To make sacrifice. To actually FIGHT for justice. Unity of neighborhood. And the powers that be saw that and CRUSHED it. So the truth of what you said is what's tragic. It could've been numerous & serious at the same time. Not with buffoonery and stupid drama. But with the same humor and seriousness we all lived. That we all talked about at the barber shop, at the cookouts, at church, at funerals, graduations, the work place. Even the random encounters at a game or park or vacation spots. There's humor and melancholy throughout our real lives that Roc reflected upon and could've tapped into that the powers that be DIDN'T want (in my opinion) to be shown and were afraid to let the cast & Dutton tell. Anyways. I didn't mean to go on a rant, but I wanted to support your statement.
Great Actor, always was a Fan as a kid and adult, liked him in A Low Down Dirty Shame, Get On the Bus, A Time to Kill, and Nick of Time, so many more, Legend 🙏💞
I love Roc and watch the reruns whenever I get a chance. The story lines were what I related to most and it was so great to see a loving black couple on tv at that time. Kudos to Dutton for staying the course of his mission and not giving into the agenda of the network. He could not and did not betray himself. He stood with his convictions of what he wanted to produce. Thank you!
Rock was a good show, I really enjoyed it. The white writers Wanted to change it, They rather see black people acting like you know what??? THANK YOU ROCK FOR HAVEING Integrity.❤ Racism, alive and well.😢
His sister, Maureen, is/was a Correctional Officer Sergeant at my former place of employment (a women's prison), which is also located in Jessup, Maryland. Also, Hagerstown is pronounced "Hay-gerz-town".
Roc is what we needed. A serious show that focused on social issues in the black community. If we want laughs we could watch Martin or Jaime. The 90s was pure magic for television!
Where's the tragic story also when you do one episode on a show you aren't a cast member you're a guest. Charles has done a lot in the television market and made a few movies for an ex-con I would say he's done very well for himself and for his people.🎉🎉🎉
I Loved "ROC" !!! It was one of the best shows on tv PERIODT !!! WONDERFUL CAST !!! LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE !!! Recently, I was watching it on Pluto TV. Charles Dutton is a powerful and very underrated actor ! I also saw him on Broadway. Rest in Power Carl, Heavy D and the rest 🙏🏻 💙 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻💙
Early Fox and early WB basically dumped black shows after they got a little success. But Roc was a show that was always a play. It would have been better as an HBO show. I think it would have been an interesting niche streaming show in modern day.
The man tried hard and played hard, kept at it, did his best, made way, and did what most can't seem to do, he won, he kept fighting, he wanted to win, he didn't give up, God was on his side, knowing his heart, knowing what he wanted to do, he is to be recognized... Good job Roc ...
I absolutely loved that show rock people used to say my ex-husband and I were the real life roc but not from Baltimore from Boston. I was a huge fan and I tuned into every episode. I was so proud of the show. It really sucks. The entertainment and sitcom industry took an awful turn to disgrace people of color. That’s when they took all the positive shows with people of color off the air. I don’t say African-Americans because I know we were here in America long before anyone else. This is our land. it was just another tactic to destroy us. They didn’t want to show any more positive images of people of color. They went back to the brainwashing, conditioning and propaganda, full force! They couldn’t have us thinking, too highly of ourselves now could they? if you notice, they only promoted what he was doing and stood behind what he was doing when he was showing the negative aspect of what was going on in the life of people of color in some communities. They only want to focus on the negative.
Charles S. Dutton easily deserves to be in the same conversation and circle as Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Sidney Poitier, Andre Braugher, and Giancarlo Giuseppe, and Jeffrey Wright.
"Roc" was my bul.... especially when he stood up to drug dealer "Andrea Thompson"..."Andre" said some slick s*** & "Roc" grabbed that man by his neck!!!!! I almost thought that scene was real.....! Later "Clifton Powell" said him & "Charles" was good friends & that scene was total acting ....!!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
the funniest thing about this video is that they tried to subliminally make people associate the network "Fox" to the actor "Jamie Foxx " each time they spoke on the negative things done by the Network and Jamie Foxx had nothing to do with the business decision as he was just talent. lol smh they tried it though
They wanted to do a black version of The Honeymooners? Why did they hire Charles S. Dutton, a serious actor to do this? They should have hired a comedian. This shows that Hollywood doesn’t take black people seriously.
The episode about andre the drug dealer was the best episode I ever seen when sitcoms venture into a serious subject. Once in a while, even in just 30 minutes or maybe 60, they do a decent job but that Roc episode pulled it of with a sensible storyline and acting at its very best. The emotion Roc brings in the scene when he grabbed andre by the throat, was as inspirational as it gets.
70s and 80s are always in need for comedy shows ( except soap operas ) so for him at that decade is the wrong decade....until the 90s show up and the Wire is a good opportunity for him to shine.
Dutton's first Broadway play was "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom." It was also the late, great playwright August Wilson's debut. Dutton originated the role of the hard-headed trumpeter, Levee. He got a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor. The late, great Chadwick Boseman played Levee in the Netflix film adapted version.
This title is purposefully misleading. Charles Dutton is amazing and is very much alive and well today. Sadly, the video would have been just as compelling if the creators were honest about the content.

That's what I'm saying. Always some negative undertone!
Yep, I hate when they do that. Glad he’s alright
Im so sick of these fake headers. People would be just as interested in seeing what he's up to today.
His work brought so much opportunity to others.
I loved Roslyn Cash, none like her. Look at all these wonderful and talented black folks. True excellence.

Roc was a light-hearted comedic look into life of a working class Black family. It turned into a dramatic play.
Great Actor, always was a Fan as a kid and adult, liked him in A Low Down Dirty Shame, Get On the Bus, A Time to Kill, and Nick of Time, so many more, Legend 🙏💞

What's New!! Controlling black stories has always been the norm.. 99% of Black shows have white writers producers etc.etc. etc. etc.
Facts
Reinforcing the propaganda, brainwashing, and negative stereotypes
So what is your point?? Or are you just being a racist and stirring up unnecessary shit!??
