Just taken delivery of the Ioniq 6 as equipped for the Australian market. After only a couple of days I've already gravitated towards the Eco mode for exactly the reasons stated in the video: it gives a more progressive acceleration and I'm less nervous about picking up a speeding ticket. When I develop more of a feel for the car then I might move back to Normal mode. Love the car overall; agree about the annoying warning noises.
I am in Australia as well. I love this car and have similar vies. about it after driving it for almost a year. Normally use the eco-mode and generally go for sport if I need to really get it going for some reason, or in the winding road areas.
I've just bought a Hyundai electric second hand for £15k, I'm seeing 180 miles on a charge, I'm expecting 200+ in the warmer weather - from a 38 kWh battery pack. Regularly seeing 5 mp/kWh to 5.5 mp/kWh in the cold and rainy winter of the UK. I don't drive like a granny either. Whatever Hyundai did with that particular Ioniq, it's a shame they haven't been able to replicate it since.
@@ashb8572 the customer service varies area to area, I hear my local one is OK - but it's been nothing but reliable so far. 12v issues seem to be semi-common but I just keep a booster in the car just in case. Haven't had any issues yet. It's a lovely car, and a steal at the current prices. If you snooze you'll lose though prices on the rise again for second hand.
16:00 “what’s that bong?” - you’ve just passed a speed camera. Couple the speed camera detection with the love of deciding roads are suddenly 20 mph for 20 seconds of bing-bong stress where the car thinks you’re going to get a ticket for driving at 29 past a 30 mph speed camera. (I5 driver here!)
If you want a smooth move in AWD, you can always configure your own driving mode OR simply go into snow mode ;-) which has the ride comfort of eco, but uses all 4 wheels and you can feels that.
Drove one of these recently, preferred the interior to the 5 The centre console looks cheap imo & from the side as you look rearward reminds me of cortinas yonks ago that had towbar abuse that broke the rear chassis! A friend of mine constantly gets 140w/km from his so the low cd makes big difference to the 5. Great video with bong annoyance so well described 👌
After watching your videos since finding your channel in 2015 when i bought a Renault fluence which started my journey in EV's after trying LPG which was great on a new Dacia i couldn't resist my current Zoe GT LINE since August. So after all this time I've finally joined your 99p club! Your like part of the family now to me!
God I must be getting old - I saw those wheels and thought they'll be a bugger to clean, they'll give a terrible ride, and tyres will cost a fortune. I'll get my coat.
Those wheels are the higher spec model with 19" wheels. My base-model has the 18" wheels. Both wheels are actually aero-covered; the 19" has black infills between the silver, so no major cleaning issues. The ride is really very good; better in the base-model with the deeper tyre profile, but all around a lot better than the Tesla. Tyre cost ?? No idea. All tyres are expensive these days. The crucial thing is how long they last.
The speed limit action was passed by the EU and agreed by UK at the time. It was actually meant to be originally active that won’t let you speed above the local limit on all roads but got watered down but only temporary as it’s to come next. They also wanted to have it retrofitted to older cars but that was too difficult a fit.
As he says, the technology isn't there and it's dangerous, with a sign on an overpass my car tried to break from 70-10mph, why there can't be a line of code that thinks "is that ever happening" I don't know
In my 2020 Defender this speed limit function was very annoying to the extent that JLR disabled it via an OTA update. My new 2023 Defender even tells me that “this function is not available in this region”. They also listened to owners who complained that the lane keep assist was too strong - I live in the countryside with lots of twisty narrow back roads and meeting a big tractor thundering down the road often means driving on the verge, but not with lane keep assist as it tries to fight you back onto the tar and straight into the path of the on coming tractor………… that was toned down somewhat in an OTA update and can now be switched to just a steering wheel vibration so you can still have it fully operational on dual carriageways and motorways. What I don’t understand with it is that the Satnav can tell you what sort of road it is so why can it not disable LKA completely until you drive on a dual carriageway or motorway? I see now that 2024 model year Land and Range Rovers are getting a sort of semi-autonomous driving system, lord help us as it’s already causing plenty of problems for those with the latest cars.
Nowhere in the EU legislation does it say that the warnings should be AUDIBLE. This is an interpretation by Hyundai. Warnings can be haptic, for instance, or even be vibrations in the pedal etc. I am guessing other manufacturers will choose to do this smarter than Hyundai.
Problem is that the haptic warning must be in the acceleration pedal, which the Ioniq is unable to do I guess. The steering wheel haptic feedback is not sufficient.
I think the Ioniq 6 would make a good looking shooting brake... Is it just me that thinks car ergonomics have taken a massive step backwards with the introduction of screen based menus for everything.
Almost ALL car controls are buttons; via the steering wheel controls, or the row of buttons and haptic touch pads on the panel below the screen. The radio volume control is a knob, or the scroll-wheel on the right-side of the steering wheel. If that is too much to cope with you can push the voice-command button on the steering wheel and just tell the car to do stuff, like make a phone call, navigate, or close the window.
@@petesig93 Not on all modern cars. Far from it. Hence my comment and why so many people find screen based, menu driven controls such a backward step in ergonomics.
I admire it for being different. A bit like the early Mercedes CLS. Bongs would drive me crazy. Why not give an option to turn the relentless things off? (And permanently off, not just per journey!) Asian manufacturers seem married to this bong culture long before the law mandates it, without the wit to make them optional. I would skip the e-wing mirrors, if considering one. Big discount on the list price, well detected. Will be even more attractive when access to the Tesla charging network is available. Thanks for the video review.
You certainly CAN delay the timing of the alert bongs. This makes a considerable difference. I have got used to the occasional bong after 12 months of driving. I have the HUD as well on mine and find the speed limit notification and the flashing of the speed icon helps me to keep within the limit and avoid the fines. You can turn it off in the menu, but have to do this every time you drive, AND that means that you get no speed limit indications on the dash or HUD = more chance of getting speeding fines. Otherwise if you really just want to break the speed limit, just stay above it all the time and you will get no more bonging.
I really like the look of the car and for me would look at it 1yr in for that 30-31k price range. Still the MG5 for a couple more years and still love it
Good review. I’ve had the AWD with the rear view cameras in Australia for 9 months. It’s better than I expected. I would definitely recommend it. The new European spec cars in probably every brand will do the nanny bonging. Upcoming European rules are introducing speed limiting as well.😢
Yeah, my Škoda thinks there's 30km/h speed limit on newly built motorway. And it ignores "120" sign at the entrance. Now that they dropped speed limit to 90 km/h for winter it picks-up the sign, but few kilometres further it suddenly picks up 30km/h limit from the depths of it's database (which probably was the limit on some small road which was parallel to this new one, and might not even exist anymore) and if I happen to be using cruise control, slams the brakes. Sign recognition ignores "end of ** limit" signs and and quite often has issues with 3-digit limits. And of course, if a sign is canceled out by some highway code rule (apparently more common in Easter Europe than in Western) car would follow the last seen sign for quite a while. And this one I've heard complains from a lot of people. Including Tesla owners.
Saw the rear of this car on the carriageway in the dark ... It looked damaged, but it was only the vertical lines hitting a steep rear slope. Strange design.
Those speed bongs are weird - on the similar GV60, on normal roads the only time it will bong is if you go over a speed limit that you’ve set manually. If you go over the road speed limit it just changes the colour of the speed limit from red to black or will flash it briefly if you have it set to ‘assist’ rather than ‘warn’.
My EV6 doesn't bong at all for speed limits, or if it does, it's very faint and the music volume is lowered slightly. It doesn't get the signs wrong at all in my area.
I'd have to try those camera-mirrors, but the big NO for me is that silly little slit-boot. If that had been a hatch-back, great. but you'd struggle to get a folded pram or wheelchair in there, and if you get one in, can you get it out again? And there's no chance it can take a bicycle for a one-off, as you don't have a rack. So it's still the MG5 estate for now - there's no competition!
It will be interesting to compare the model 3 and this EV back to back, stalk omission not withstanding. The Dutch company behind the SEXY buttons are working on plug and play indicator stalks for the new M3. Food for thought?
They won't roll back on the indicators. For 7 years musk says full self driving is minutes away. With self driving indicator stalks aren't needed , if they back peddle he will have to admit full self drive is still a long way off which he won't . More stuff that's needed will be removed not less . I prefer the 5 myself .

Can’t agree more on the bings and bongs. I’ve got to drive hire cars all the time for work. By far the most infuriating recently was an i10, speed warning; loud and obnoxious. Lane departure AVOIDANCE re-enabled on engine start. The menu was a PiTA to navigate to turn them off, all while it’s trying to wrestle with the steering wheel on back roads if you’ve forgot to turn it off before setting off 😡
In my Hyundai i ended up simply keeping the lockscreen notice and control the sound with my cell. Just a pain to press it (b/c u have to wait until the car boots up before being able to press it... May as well start driving instead)
On my route home with my 2021 ice car, I pass many lower limits, and especially the work speed limit sign (there's no 30 sign as you leave) and it constantly brings at you as soon as your 2+ mph over its 'last sign seen' said. Possibly a good idea, but I just don't hear them anymore. Not keen on the ioniq 6 purely because the boot access. Prefer the EV6 because of the hatchback and not a pretend 4x4 style
Hi i’m living in New Zealand and have for 30years plus originally from Port Talbot and I have been following your videos for quite a few years now and I’m just wondering if you have done a video on the very first Hyundai ioniq electric elite 2017 I have had this car for over 6 1/2 years now and still get a buzz on long trips would really appreciate your input for this model I have never had a problem with this car. Just recently put four new tires after six years of use, I’ve only paid for Warren fitness registration. it’s a brilliant car car and I think it’s best thing since sliced bread. I am an ex uk lorry driver 20 years and a shuttle driver in NZ for 25years
All car reviews are personal. But .. I would like shorter bonnet length (why have a bonnet on EV) . Up front ,The big central barrier at front you Had to have in ICE cars is replicated by default it seems, and termed " extra storage" NO it means my kids cannot slide over to to get out on the pavement using drivers door. With EVs we have a chance to redesign cars not just lazily change its propulsion system. Imagine Jet powered Biplanes!
It’s way bigger than the T M3 and heavier therefore should be less efficient. More comparable with the T mY in size and efficiency. Although the Y is still cheaper for the base vn.
Looks like they are going for the mercedes s class market, executive motorway masher, I love the wheels, but maybe if they had bigger walled tyres or make them 18 inch? The side profile I think is the best, the rear being Porsche looking the front is a bit of a sad fish, but I get the slipperiness of the idea
nowhere near S class is styling, size, performance, interior, luxury, engines, drivline etc. Its got 4 wheels though which is the same. Looks like a squashed beetle, will be on second hand lots (assuming battery survives) for pennies in the pound in around 24 months...
For the life of me, I don't understand why Hyundai won't bring the 58kWh (gross) model to the UK! It would bring the starting price down to nearer £40k. I run a 58kWh Ioniq 5 and have had no issues with range at all, the 800v architecture means that charging is a breeze! On our holiday to North Devon, I found the car was charging quicker than I could eat my food! You really don't need a massive battery with 800v technology!
Lads those electric mirrors are chronic. When we are parking in town we also move our head slightly to alter angles when looking in the mirror, to adjust view....this is totally gone with these electric mirrors...over engineering nonsense
For me, the benchmark is the Tesla Model 3. Declaration - I own an M3 dual motor. I've had it for 5000 miles and 8 months. I love it. There is literally no other car I want. I was a petrol head. Efficiency plus big batteries equals big range, the fabulous Tesla charging network, the brilliant acceleration, sharp steering, the infotainment, little stuff like the perfectly set smooth throttle response. Main question - can the Ioniq 6 go beyond that combination?
All that 'wonderfulness'..... and yet, it's entirely useless if you need a hatchback.....!!! .... I just don't get saloons/sedans... ..... Why have a boot, with its limitations... when you could have a hatchback.....without the limitations.......!!!?
I agree, that is a limitation. In fact we usually buy estates for their practicality. But the other factors outweigh the lack of a hatchback for me. The MY was meant to deal with that, but I find them ugly and don't like the extra 3 inches of girth.
Personally I like it, and would happily own one. As you rightly say, at least it's different. And I'd add to that by saying at least it's different and at least it's not an SUV. The only thing I found visually challenging are those hideous rear bumper overriders, I can't really think what purpose they're for, but even if they have one, why on earth are they silver against a black background?! I'd be rattle canning those in a heartbeat, utterly hideous
Come on the Tesla beats it hands down. Why? Supercharger net work. Better economy and the fact that its well over half the cost per KW for a Tesla. A 50 WK charge in this, will cost at least £34, or more, Same 50KW charge in a Tesla will cost £17 pounds or less. No stalks, no problem you get used to it. Plus I will bet it will soon be vice activated. Right turn Clyde.
So 50kw costs £34, after losses you'll add maybe 45 to the battery, so can probably go around 180 miles max on a run for £34. hmmmm....... I think I'll stick with my old 320d with its 55mpg. At £7.4 per gallon thats equivalent to approx 250 miles. Also depreciation is way better, and the engine will suffer only mild loss of performance over 10 years, as opposed to, say 30% loss of range.... and the Bimmer has a 600+ range and a 3 minute fill up will add the full 600 miles (whatever the weather, and without having to wait for a "handshake"), using EV terminology to make big numbers sound impressive that would be the equivalent of refilling at 12,000 miles per hour. Thats the target, so keep trying....
The front does look so boring compared to the rear. The N version (if they release one) will look amazing a slightly widened stance and aggressive body kit
I really like this car. It rapid charges at up to 800Mph. Not even the Teslas can charge at that speed Then on top of that it has a real world range if around 300 miles which is also very good. The biggy for me though is still the price but I still like this car
Why are they not making a normal door handles and normal buttons inside of the electric cars? Do they think that all of the EV buyers are dumb or something?
We've got a 2022 Model 3 standard range (with the slightly larger battery than 2021 cars). Have done around 35k in it so far and I would say the real world range is very similar to what you were reporting in the larger battery version of the 6.
@@Payteer yes, the Ioniq 6 only has a single size battery available in the UK. My point was that the current Tesla Model 3 standard range gets the same distance between charges to the Ioniq 6, whereas most people including in this video compare it to the Model 3 Long Range.
Just the bongs steer me away from this car. Better have the new Model 3 with some stalks added (they exist). Efficiency of the Tesla is actually better than just the 0.5 mile/kWh extra you mention.
I saw the Hyundai Ioniq 6 at a dealer in town last week, didn't know what it was, walking towards it, coming up from behind, and I thought.. "this car looks great!".. then I walked round the side and thought "what the frig is happening with the designers"... then got to the front and.... it's just all wrong... and walked away... the rear side view , it's a miss mash of design elements, making it look too fussy, and them wheels.... nasty.. looks like they could be on a Christmas tree as decoration...
It's just so ugly, even worse in the metal. I'll have my IONIQ 5 paid off next year, and can't see me getting shot of it any time soon. Even if it does have the same, God awful slow infotainment as the 6 (criminal that Hydundai haven't given it the newer, faster, Nvidia powered system), it's been a brilliant car that is marginally less divisive in terms of its looks! Thankfully my 2021 car doesn't have the speed limit nag-bong, I only have one annoyance to deal with (LKA), though as you mention it's easy to turn off on the steering wheel. On my previous car (A-Class) it was buried deep in the menus somewhere, used to drive me crazy!
The ioniq 6 is £30k in the USA so the UK price inc tax would be £36,600, not £47,000. Even if the USA model is the 54kwh battery, £10k is an Apple-like price bump! With the range / efficiency being so bad, I’m going cold on this car. I’ll stick with my 4.4m/kwh MINI.
@@Sam-tx1tn that’s the price before tax or incentives, which when you add UK tax (20%) should be £36,600, not £47,000. If the US price of the base RWD model was $60,000 after tax & incentives, would you buy one?
Nothing about it appeals to me. No need for a space robbing centre console, as for that daft tray under it, go round a corner and stuff falls under the pedals. Why can’t they follow the Mercedes self cleaning rear camera. You are right about the excessive performance of ev.
Hate the bong as well, If it is your car why can't you turn it off? This is manufacterers dictating to owners and it is becoming comonplace acros most brands.
The fact that this car got "world car design of the year award" shows categorically that that award is a scam. Even the Hyundai Coupé from twenty years ago is better looking than this banana.

Could they not change that sound to bing , bong, like a certain holiday camp , that would be entertaining 🤪🤣🤣
The Porsche should sue for the back side 😂
Minor correction: usable 77,4 kwh battery.
Can’t agree more on the bings and bongs. I’ve got to drive hire cars all the time for work. By far the most infuriating recently was an i10, speed warning; loud and obnoxious. Lane departure AVOIDANCE re-enabled on engine start. The menu was a PiTA to navigate to turn them off, all while it’s trying to wrestle with the steering wheel on back roads if you’ve forgot to turn it off before setting off 😡
I like the looks but any vehicle with bings and bongs and three million presses of a screen to change the heating is a no from me . Good review though
In my Hyundai i ended up simply keeping the lockscreen notice and control the sound with my cell. Just a pain to press it (b/c u have to wait until the car boots up before being able to press it... May as well start driving instead)
16:00 ceramic-coat should remedy that, at least when moving... 💧let may stay but small and not spread out
Not had a car with a boot since my Vauxhall Viva!
When the exterior mirrors get water on them turn the heated rear window on
It's not a Coupé. KeEp tO tHe BoDyStyLes!
Great car. Loved the Proto style a bit better on the rear
Anything with stalks will KEEP selling. Tesla has made profit margin maintenance its priority. Unbelievable stupidity.
I am an ex uk lorry driver 20 years and a shuttle driver in NZ for 25years
Saw one today in the flesh for the first time in a car park. That rear end is beyond bad
I've been thinking of the new model 3, but the bonging winds me up now in my Outlander pushing me towards an older pre bonging model 3.
Cheers mate
yes those speed warnings are EU mandated (but we've voted for them back as a member). Taking back control lmao
nice ev
Can you film your next review in a Lancashire accent for balance?
Never!
Why would they slide over in the front unless you’re parking on the wrong side of the road?
It’s way bigger than the T M3 and heavier therefore should be less efficient. More comparable with the T mY in size and efficiency. Although the Y is still cheaper for the base vn.
I always think the back looks like a Porsche. I have dogs so now for me as rear boot space is important. Like it though.
Why was the interior light on all the time? 🤔
9:46 Leatherhead HQ? 🤔
Looks a similar shape to the new byd!
Lads those electric mirrors are chronic. When we are parking in town we also move our head slightly to alter angles when looking in the mirror, to adjust view....this is totally gone with these electric mirrors...over engineering nonsense
The laggy infotainment and constant bongs put me off, personally I would have a bmw i4 as a ev saloon. But Im staying with my Megane-Etech for now
i4 is way more expensive so not really comparable.
Here’s how I’ve been describing them - they look ugly but cool at the same time
12m40 how noisy are the wipers
Do they do it in yellow with a brown stripe down the side?
11:17 😆
Yeah because voice activation works that quickly and accurately. 🤦♂️
Especially on a roundabout with multiple indications for both sides.
That boot up process for the car would get far too tedious after a short period of time.
Secondhand Premium big battery £13k off list Andy. If you wouldn’t miss Tesla treat yourself.
Those wheels are comically large 😂
The front does look so boring compared to the rear.
The N version (if they release one) will look amazing a slightly widened stance and aggressive body kit
I really like this car. It rapid charges at up to 800Mph. Not even the Teslas can charge at that speed
Then on top of that it has a real world range if around 300 miles which is also very good. The biggy for me though is still the price but I still like this car
You are wrong there, Tesla Model 3 and Y can charge at over 1,000 mph, i see it on a regular basis.
Hello mate
pretty much vertical drop in depreciation. why a private buyer would buy one is beyond me.
Any thoughts please. After a software update on my bmw phev I’ve lost 20% of my electric range. Why. Great video.
Why are they not making a normal door handles and normal buttons inside of the electric cars?
Do they think that all of the EV buyers are dumb or something?
It's all cars, not just EVs.
We've got a 2022 Model 3 standard range (with the slightly larger battery than 2021 cars). Have done around 35k in it so far and I would say the real world range is very similar to what you were reporting in the larger battery version of the 6.
He says in the video that there is only one battery size?
@@Payteer yes, the Ioniq 6 only has a single size battery available in the UK. My point was that the current Tesla Model 3 standard range gets the same distance between charges to the Ioniq 6, whereas most people including in this video compare it to the Model 3 Long Range.
46K plus for a Hyundai the world has gone mad
thats funny, autotrade has current year models with trivial mileage at circa £30k. who's right?
Now then now then
Just the bongs steer me away from this car. Better have the new Model 3 with some stalks added (they exist). Efficiency of the Tesla is actually better than just the 0.5 mile/kWh extra you mention.
Front end looks a lot like the old Hyundai Coupe. Not a bad thing as that was a great looking car, but I’m not seeing ‘futuristic’
That UI is laggy and looks outdated. It would bug the crap out of me.
Like the CyberTruck...which end is the front? Is it coming towards me, or going away?
id rather have a Morris Minor.
77kWh battery, not 74kWh?
Usable, not total.
Does that include state taxes? Probably not
@@Sam-tx1tn that’s the price before tax or incentives, which when you add UK tax (20%) should be £36,600, not £47,000. If the US price of the base RWD model was $60,000 after tax & incentives, would you buy one?
Korea is closer to US than UK. And UK pays through nose for most things including cars.
What kind of ai does it have? Can it self drive?
Nice car but I prefer my Renault ETech I’m getting 4.4 miles per kilo watt
Not at 10° you're not.
Did 117 miles today 10 degrees raining mostly motorway driving at 62 miles an hour average 4.2 miles PKW
🤣
Smooth
Is it just me or do others feel the Hyundai badge looks cheap and nasty? Kia went up in my opinion when they updated their badge.
just you.
Nothing about it appeals to me. No need for a space robbing centre console, as for that daft tray under it, go round a corner and stuff falls under the pedals. Why can’t they follow the Mercedes self cleaning rear camera. You are right about the excessive performance of ev.
In a few years, this whole stupid Remote Combustion Vehicle craze will be over.
This is one EV i really don’t like for some reason I just can’t take to it
That rear end...911 from wish 🤮
Hate the bong as well, If it is your car why can't you turn it off? This is manufacterers dictating to owners and it is becoming comonplace acros most brands.
The fact that this car got "world car design of the year award" shows categorically that that award is a scam. Even the Hyundai Coupé from twenty years ago is better looking than this banana.
I saw one on the road and it looked absolutely shit.
'shit'....!?!?
Really.....???!!
Soo.. How do you justify that ridiculously childish comment then, 'br1an'...!?!?
Strange, weird. Not flowing. Bad design. Shit.
The battery size is actually 77.4 kWh, not 74 kWh as you said at 7:25.
That’s the total capacity. I’m quoting the usable capacity.
Nice car pity it's electric
