      Here's an idea, and this is coming from someone who hasn't properly been injected into any American wrestling, so I may be wrong. This is just my guess.
      Being a booker and a pro wrestler is two different mentalities, As a booker it's your job to ensure everyone else's happiness as well as keeping business flowing; being selfless
      As a Pro Wrestler you can focus on your own dreams and desires and figuring out how to get the public to love you with your own work. Thinking about 'Well what do I want' rather than 'How can I make them happy'; healthy selfish goals
      It's ok to be selfish, and sometimes doing what's best for you is what helps others discover what's best for them.

    • @FireLordKuzon
      @FireLordKuzon Місяць тому +8

      Another way of thinking about it more specific to Cody is this:
      While he wanted to created his own legacy outside WWE, There was unfinished business and he likely saw the potential of getting to the top spot inside of the company. A long-winded road indeed however knowing that if his foot was through that door and he was accepted then that meant achieving the dream of winning the big one and stamping his name and the Rhodes name to WWE's history of great world heavyweight champions and no one could take that from him or his family.
      To be the family hero and prove to his older brother, his mom and to prove to himself in place of his father that he is a staple in this business within and out of the big fed
      After Cody is done with the WWE Title he could stay or leave again to go to AEW; His added value and his journey taken will be a big difference compared to what alot of the fanbase was saying to Cody - that they didn't believe he wasn't just a Triple H persona for AEW and that they don't believe in him when he is a baby face.
      These are things I've heard; I've personally loved Cody since his American Psycho Gimmick and he's always been in my Boy Stable during his time in WWE but when leaving for NJPW I was very happy to see him change into something special and a masterful heel. I could have never imagined what Cody could accomplish - creating a new wrestling company, winning his Dad's NWA Title, running with Brodie Lee in his last feud before Brodie Lee passes away and to come back to WWE with the goal to become WWE Champion.
      While going through this journey, he lost his dad, becoming a father himself, helping other talent and achieving that which his dad couldn't.
      I understand people get very sensitive about wrestling and want to always have control as fans. But sometimes wrestling can be special and when it's good, it's freakin' sweet 😋

    In WWE hes been positioned as the babyface a lot better, but its largely because Cody isnt booking his own segments someone else is. In AEW he took himself out of the main event but then had thr best entrance, the longest matches, always main eventing shows. There was a period where he burned both Andrade and Malakai Blacks momentum alongside any Anthony Ogogo had as well. I asked an American wrestling fan, not a WWE fan, that if any other wrestling company in America had money other than WWE, would it be able to gather a crowd of more than 50,000? He said absolutely not because WWE has been in America since 1982. Americans are used to this. Even if Roman goes to another company, some of the crowd will go to another company for some time but from there they will come back to WWE within a few years. An example of this is Jon Moxley. His coming to WWE has helped WWE. Will get more benefits but his departure will not affect WWE. Only WCW gave it competition because it was a company of the 80's when WWE was making its name. That company was sold in a hurry. If it had not been sold, it could have been revived. Vince McMahon smartly bought it immediately so that the future It could not stand in India and even if any other company did stand up, it would not be able to integrate its history with itself. In WWE, skirmishes are talked about under stories, they are not their own talks but are prepared by WWE staff, they are fake, apart from this, 2 out of 10 matches are also fake, it is already decided who will win and who will lose. Out of 20,000 people of WWE, 4000 to 5000 people come to watch wrestling and the remaining 15,000 people come only to drink beer, have shopping fun, dance, listen to music and hang out. WWE's Indian wrestler Shenki has also accepted this. So let us not become fools like the Americans. On another example, Zila Fatu does not need NXT because he is from the Fatu Anoa family, but Josh Alexander will have to play NXT, even then there is no guarantee that he will be brought to Raw or SmackDown. We're not stupid like the Americans

    Having watched everything with cody in AEW, if he was booking himself he more or less self sabotaged his run. He can look back on that as the fans giving him undeserved hate or whatever but the codyverse was so separated from what was actually compelling in AEW, and that was more or less established on his loss to mjf, which was extremely early on.
    Cody said in another clip he was more or less annoyed at people in aew not wanting to be world champ, and i get where hes coming from but if thats the case then he very overtly never respected the aew world championship. There was no direction for Cody in AEW, likely his own doing, and he was very much so treading water and any notable moment after a fashion (probably the last big cody moment before the tnt title pingponging with guevara) was a great match with little build or him shooting himself in the foot with strange, old-school-in-the-bad-way segments.
    Its easy in retrospect with him in a very dominant position now to rewrite the past as him being put upon, or unrightfully hated, but the reality is he just wasnt a great fit for AEW despite building it. They have and continue to build great babyfaces, and he was trying to do a flavor the fanbase didnt connect with. He works great in WWE because WWE needs the unimpeachable big guy at the top, and the crowd wants that too after a life time of roman. If AEW ever puts an abusive heel in the champ seat for that long youre damn right the crowd is gonna hunger for the polar opposite.
    This is not to disparage codys work in wwe, its some great stuff, but lets not be so quick to rewrite history because a guy figured it out later on.

I meant it as in, since all these other wrestlers have been going to other promotions to do things (both to wwe and out of wwe to like njpw and tna) it would be something set up between the two companies, Cody would be able to be like "look guys I did it, it was worth it"

It was a flawed decision that cost Cody his run in AEW
