It was not Mountbatten's plot. It was a madcap idea of Cecil KIng of the Daily Mirror, and they proposed to involve him. There's never been any sensible suggestion that he would have responded positively.
As I understand he was contacted, and promptly told them to fuck off.

I don't agree with their coup but they weren't evil, they were doing what they thought was right for the country. Labour were actually making a mess of the economy and the unions were causing some of that mess.
If Labour was making that much of a mess, they could have just waited for the next election to remove the government. But instead they decided to be a bunch of paranoid psychos.
As the proud parent of two queer kids, actually one transgender child and one pansexual child, it breaks my heart how evil these people were.
