Harold’s Story - Treating Advanced Esophageal Cancer with STERIS’s trūFreeze Spray Cryotherapy

When Harold was first diagnosed, his life expectancy was six months as cancer had spread from his esophagus to lymph nodes, lung, and backbones. He experienced difficulty swallowing, impacting his ability to eat and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Harold worked with Dr. Gunaratnam and the Huron Gastro and Trinity Health staff to develop a treatment plan that included spray cryotherapy to help clear obstructions in his esophagus. trūFreeze Spray Cryotherapy delivers targeted cryogen to ablate benign and malignant cells by flash-freezing water causing cell death to diseased tissue.
Almost two years later, Harold is back running two businesses and spending time with his family! Harold has less pain, his weight has stabilized, and he can eat all his favorite foods again, as his esophageal lumen has opened significantly with continued cryoablation treatment.
