Just finished watching the video and I was proper chuffed at how you were discussing your mental health and the great work TETC do for men's mental health. My son-in-law is really struggling and I have guided him towards them and getting help/talking to someone. Keep up the fishing and videos, your rockling beat my last blank. Cheers fella 👍
Alex, Thanks for sharing mate, I,m sure it helps a lot of us, Try and stay positive, may not seem like it but it can be worth it. Tight lines, Take care
I love my Akios fury 420 it is an absolutely great Rod never gone wrong for me I would love to get the power tip for mine. Love akios great people who work for the company and met a few of them always helpful and kind.
Great video bud. It is hard when your head is not in it. I need to get out as been letting it stop me so have a few trips planned, hopefully recharge myself. Keep them coming helps with my sanity.
Always a pleasure Alex hope to bump in to you one day when you come to fish the Mersey ( Brunswich Perch Vale or along the wirral town hall steps stretch
Chin up mate. We all go through moments as you say, where for whatever reason, our mojo just gets up and goes. Sometimes we have to force ourselves to get out, even though we don't want to, just to recharge the batteries, reset the brain. I find mine in Fishing be it Carp or Sea, or mostly being out in the countryside carrying our deer management or Fox control. Just like fishing not being about catching, being out with a rifle isn't about pulling the trigger. The sights and sounds I get to see whilst others are tucked up in bed or sat watching TV along with fresh air and exercise make it all worth while. Sat watching a Barn Owl quartering a half cut hay meadow the other week even whilst a Muntjac I was supposed to be culling trotted through. Simply because watching is sometimes all that is needed. Nice little session, I do like a Rockling and miss catching them now I only target bigger species, and a nice bonus Raymondo to boot. Tightlines 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Hi Alex, lovely vid as always. I really appreciate your openness in relation to your own and others mental health, your experiences certainly resonate with me. As a challenge that means something to you as an angler and as a mental health advocate / ambassador, why not consider walking and possibly fishing the 38 miles of the holderness coast or 18 miles of Chesil? I’m sure the other UA-camrs would join in, it could be done in small stages over a period of time or whatever your work and family life allows …. I will certainly chuck a donation into the pot no matter what you decide to do.
Glad to hear you're getting on top of things rather than the other way round and good to see you back on one of your favourite marks. Seemed like a tough session but at least you caught stuff. Better luck next week and good luck with the diet! As for the challenge, how about walking the length of Hadrian's Wall and fishing either end? Given that you mentioned prawns, I've only ever fished with live ones from a boat so no problems casting.
Eazy Alex you ok pal , nice one for another vid mate. At least you dint blank and you got ya arse out on the beach n a bet ya felt a hole lot better than ya left as usually find. I had my first thornback Ray on the humber yesterday morning from the shore and a few flounders. So I felt a million dollars again. All the best chief from GRIMSBY
Hi Alex like you having bad time at the moment went fishing on the gynn wall had a great time feel better & watched your video which gives me inspiration thanks Alex all the best.
Hi mate. Great to see ye back on the holderness coast.. Had a cracking session there week before. Had 14 hounds. But ye before you know it there gone.. I was there i guess when you turned up and went home. But still you had fish mate. Always enjoy your vids alex. Take it steady mate and tight lines 🎣🎣👍👍
Great vlog Alex as usual my beautiful brother. We all go through various difficulties in life. Wjen I feel really low in mood I think ab those people who are at more disadvantaged than me in life and trus me there are thousands and thousands all around us. It sorts of help me to recour myself. The best exercise I perhaps can suggest is jogging. It is medically proven that it improves one's mental health. You don't have to run fast either. Just nice and slowly running that produces sweat especially outside is something you should think about.
Lovely ray mucker, and a tiny slug to go with it. I enjoy my fishing, too, because if I didn't get out, I'd be a total mental case. Without that and my few chosen friends, I don't think I would be here.
I had a facebook memory come up from 8 years ago when I was fishing from my old boat and I could clearly see it was a picture of me holding a small tope of about 2lbs. I thought it was a smooth hound at the time. I was having a conversation with my gf a few weeks prior about species that I had never caught and tope was on that list so I was really happy I could cross that one off. It’s pretty bad taking 8 years to realise I’d had one though.
Looks like you missed the peak.... it's been fishing it's head off for the last month. Trouble is, there's been 20 -30 anglers on that beach from Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning every weekend for the last 6. It's been ridiculous the number of anglers, to be honest. Fish have moved away mostly, but still, a few big girls are hanging around. I'm glad you got a few fish pal, and some sunshine ( not alot of that about either) Happy Days
Didn't do so well in the south of Ireland ,alex, all the these anglers telling you how easy it is, I lived there for 3 years, caught nothing for first year, patience, local knowledge and the freshest bait you can get your hands on,is best bet, but if the fish aren't there,
Little wins buddy, day on the beach is better than a day at work. Bonny little ray that. Other bonus was you stayed dry - and that's some achievement this summer 🤦♂️
Hang in there bud. You are doing awesome. For a challenge, in what, 4 months time? Swim a distance in the ogin. Bloody freezing, but a hell of a goal. (especially if you can get some of the other fishing you tubers to join you 😁
Can't beat a nice beach session to clear the mind. Nice Ray. That's 1 I'd like to catch. But for now a decent Smoothie is my target 👌 That's the spot I was with Shane a couple of weeks back.and had a bit of a nightmare to say the least, and an inevitable blank to boot 😂😂😂 Tight lines Alex 🎣 hopefully meet you on a beach very soon 👌
Alex, I'm a big lad, can't do diets, I'm now 18 stone, from 22 and I'm 50 , the best thing I've ever done is intermittent fasting, it's piss easy, I only eat lunch most days, but fill your boots on whatever you want to eat , seriously I have kebabs some days at work for my lunch, only drink water till lunch or diet pop, and after (coffee or tea when your eating is fine).. some days I will have a dinner when I get home , so long as you only eat within an 8 hour window and at least 4 hours after you wake up you'll loose weight, the smaller the window for eating, the more weight you'll loose quickly... It's hard going for the 1st 3 days, but once you're past 3 days , it's easy, I genuinely binge one day a week, chocolate, beer etc no fasting whatsoever, and I'm still loosing weight... Hope this helps, good luck and for your challenge, why not the zip line thing in Anglesey (tied in with fishing obviously) all the best
Aup mate. Believe it or not when I was younger I was in to my training and nutrition in a big way. Fasting is good, and does work well for me but has to align with my training to be most effective. Breaking my sweet tooth is the hardest bit for me, once that's cracked I find it easy to clean up my diet.
@@theawfulangler yea , same for me, I could smash a full pack of chocolate hob nobs in with a brew easy and anything with salted caramel is my kryptonite, but after 3 days of fasting, the craving passed ... Keep up the great work and tight lines 👍
Bloody typical isn't it. Even if I moved to the coast, fish could be crawling up the beach, I'd run down with my tackle and they would crawl back in and disappear
I have a couple more mate. I thought I'd break it up a little as some folk like more recent videos. But, I won't lie, Ireland was hard work. Tough finding bait, all frozen bait when I did find some, and tough finding spots the woman was happy to have the dogs and baby for a day on her own too. I'll be going back on a solo mission though.
Hi Alex , did you get to the Donegal Rally ? . Right , I've another hobby you could take up to keep in trim and you live in the right part of the world ! . Get yourself a Trials Motorbike , you already have the van so off ya go HaHa .
Yeah mate conditions were spot on when I left home. In the 2.5hr drive the wind shifted from southerly to onshore and lifter the sea...just the way it goes some days
Simple pal, reduced period of eating. Ya just eat in 8 hours. So you pick ya time and stick to it, eat as much or what ya want, worked for me. The Body has time to recover, and do some maintenance. Can't cheat wi crisps or even flavoured water. Black coffee is allowed. Give it a couple of weeks pal, tight lines!
What about a walking / fishing/ camping challenge on the east coast mate.with the weight of all your gear and all that salad haha I will sponsor you a pound a mile. I will even come and resupply you with salad. Well done for being frank about your mental health Alex. One word of advice is anger never got anyone anywhere.❤
Challenge - run to Macdonalds? Only joking. For the mental health, change something in every room in the house be it decorating or new furniture or move it around.
Both excellent pieces of kit for different situations. The airpower is a bit much if I'm honest, for general beach fishing, unless you're going after big rays or tope that kind of thing. The fury is an ace piece of kit for every day fishing but then lacks the power of you're going after big stuff, although I have done it
@@theawfulangler I did just win a new Airpower on ebay for 140 quid the one without the sliding reel seat, so that should be here in a few days, I suspected it could be too much rod for my needs after comparing the Akios Fury 435 with the power tip in a tackle shop at the weekend with the Air Power and it was very obvious the structure of the two rods was very different . My theory was its a good price and they are popular rods so I can shift it on easily if its way over rodded for me all the time. I think I would prefer the Fury but I might go back to the tackle shop and buy it and use the two the exact same as you do, maybe it will make a decent winter rod for big tides, swells and winds. Another question is have you tried the Akios Hellrazor rod, I'm guessing that is just basically a Fury with a power tip ?
@wad6216 my dad has the hellrazor, I haven't had a go with it though so can't compare. 140 is a good price for the airpower. If you do decide to get another akios rod drop me a message on Facebook. I can do some great deals 👍🏼
@@theawfulangler thanks for the replies mate very helpful, I will contact you soon if I go for a Fury 435 to see what you can do. @wad6216 the airspeed is a good rod to be fair. My dad has one of those too. I like it. I want to try the airtorque which is between the speed and power, then I'll decide which rod is going to be my next purchase
When you say you want a challenge but want to loose weight. Try drinking just juice, eat steak n salad, Muller light yoghurts. Just don't buy diet food that's in ya supermarket as they know you want to loose weight, and put a hefty price on it. Good luck as I know it's hard to loose that tractor tyre inner tube.
