My potatoes don't stick to the dough :( what should I do

    • @Maangchi
      @Maangchi  2 місяці тому +2

      Here you go. www.maangchi.com/recipe/gamja-hotdog
"Place the diced potato on your cutting board next to your bread crumbs and your batter, all in a row. Coat a hot dog skewer with the batter, turning the skewer around so it’s fully covered. You can use your hands to shape it a bit, if you need to! Then roll it in the potato bits, and pack them into the batter a bit with your hands, until they stick. Then roll it in the breadcrumbs until it’s completely covered before dropping the battered dog into the hot oil."

the bread crumbs keep them on. haha i ran into the same problem and wanted to cry xD

@laurengng. Wet or oil your hand and squeeze and press the potato pieces on with manual pressure. Also make sure you floured the potato pieces too as that helps them stick onto the batter. Also move quickly getting it into the breadcrumbs and then the pan before gravity messes things. Hope that helps.

Maangchi!....from the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful for the authentic/down to Earth genuine Korean recipes that you share for everyone....You are so unbelievably wholesome and your in-depth videos bring so much joy to those that watch!!! My Korean mother recently passed away this summer and your videos give me a great deal of comfort and replication of the foods that I learned to grow up with and love…. Please do not stop ever posting new content because you are the real deal!!! I refer to your recipes via your own personal book or via UA-cam at least once a week to experience an authentic Korean experience!!!! You are the best and keep up the amazing work!!!! We love you!!!

Daniel, my condolences regarding your mother's passing. I do agree with you; Maangchi's video provide a great deal of comfort to me as well as she reminds me of my own mother. Your comment reminded me of this article that I read a while ago and I'd like to share with you as well, hoping that it provides some comfort/peace in addition to Maangchi's videos.

One of the best things about Mangchi amongst so many others is that she just doesn’t waste food . Such a respectable quality and something one hardly sees. Then of course , the way she cleans everything. Queen

    • @lockergr

I big into not wasting food myself, and it's a really hard thing to do when you are single because pretty much anything you make makes a ton. When I go and visit family for the holidays I always see so much food waste and it just kills me.

Thank you for this! Finally got time to do this~
I'll just list the process here:
    1. Mix 1 cup of warm water with 2 tbs of sugar and 1 pack of dry yeast (around 2 tsp) . Sit it for couple of minutes. Add salt (half tsp), and mix until well melted. Add flour (1 3/4 cups). Mix til smoothen, no lumps. Set aside for 1hr (ferment)
    2. Prepare the potato. Boil water. Cut potato into cubs, rinse (remove starch) and let it boil. After 2 mins, strain and run into cold water.
    3. Prepare hotdog with stick
    4. Dry the potato and add 2 tbs flour, mix.
    5. Do the batter process. Hotdog then potato then bread crumbs. Fry.
    6. Serve

When I watched Korean street food, this corn dogs was my favourite, they’re so yummy. I went to Costco in England, and I bought corn dogs one box from freezer, I was so excited to try them, but when I tried I was very disappointed, horrible I put them in the bin, never buy them again. I want to try my own, thank you for recipe 👍

I’ve been trying to get these right for soooo long, with recipes with a much looser batter, and it never worked. This worked perfectly and was so easy to cover the surface with the stretchy dough. I made cheese on a stick with my leftover dough and that worked great, too.

@@fathfez7991 I think this is the Korean take on an American corn dog. However in Korea they are sweet and usually have other fillings besides meat, unlike the US where most corn dogs just have the cornmeal breading and a hot dog in it. Kind of plain and boring, I like the Korean version better.
