let's not discount the fact that the scream is carried for so long then he has enough of a breath that he changes octave and continues carrying it.
absolutely, I've always thought about that while I think some people just take him for granted maybe. But it is absolutely insane how he can transition so easily and still sounds amazing. Another song that shows his unreal transition is qwerty
to me, the most impressive part of this song isn't even the 17 sec scream, it's the high note in the chorus that comes right after the 17 sec scream.

@@lostsoul9773 i met the group in thr hybrid theory days when they were the opening act. They were all so humble and nice. Chester was so quiet and barely spoke ironically. He was never a typical front man by any imagination. A massive loss and under appreciated for what he contributed to this long story of music we have.

My favorite album, by far.. without question.
I like Shadow of the Day, No Roads Left, In Pieces, Leave Out All the Rest, Hands Held High, Across the Line, and No More Sorrow after this song (which is my number one favorite song of this album.)
I really hope Chester felt better after releasing that 17 seconds worth of pain the first time they recorded this song.

"He couldn't fight his own demons, but he can help us fight ours." You're not wrong, but at the same time I sometimes feel like if someone with his voice could still feel like people weren't hearing him, what hope do the rest of us have?
I feel it was a lot more complicated than that. Depression and other illnesses like that have their peaks and valleys.
For Chester, we lost him when his low point hit him at the one moment his support network wasn't immediately able to intervene...
He had people who cared for him deeply, but his illness struck at the core despite that.
It's not hopeless, not impossible for the rest of us--stuff like this just requires a greater sense of awareness and careful approach when the symptoms can be so fatally dire.

I'm 100% sure there were people that were there for him and cared deeply about him, but in that moment, he still *felt* the way he did, regardless of having those people in his life. It may not even be that his support system wasn't able to intervene. It may be that he didn't reach out to them that time.
@@subj3kt172 I'm no expert, but from what I understand, that's kind of the thing with mental illness or neuro divergence (I would personally count in the latter category)... There's really no way to change the fundamental issues with either...
I, as someone on the spectrum, will always be "wired" to interpret social situations or information differently from others.
With Depression, at least from what I've observed, fundamentally alters and attacks one's ability to experience joy, and in severe cases, attacks one's will to live. It alters your perception.
It's treatable, but no amount of friends, success, or willpower can fully cure it.
The symptoms, however, can be treated... With much difficulty.
Just look at Robin Williams... He was a comedic icon, and was beloved by anyone who met him... Practically a saint... But he struggled with the same illness... And with the onset of a second, but physically degrading illness... We lost him as well, in the same way.
That's the same thing I immediately thought after I heard what happened. He pulled us out of the darkness but the darkness consumed him in the end. It feels like it's a matter of time that it comes back for us. I'm glad my meds were upped. I felt it at my door. Sending love to those who are fighting out there🖤

The fact he can actually perform that live just shows the power compared to modern artists is incomparable

"No More Sorrow" is the heaviest song on the album for sure, but Damn!! the bridge in "Given up" is amazing!! He did it flawlessly live too. He was such a beast with an amazing singing voice. RIP Chester 💯🙏🤘

Spencer Charnas still gets my vote, tbh. His band hasn't done a bad cover yet, and All Good Things' cover of "Nothing Else Matters" featuring him on vocals is equally good.
If not him, Danny Case would be my next choice - he LITERALLY sounds like Chester in From Ashes To New's song "Panic", right down to the screamed vocals. Danny Murillo has shown similar heavy comparison to Chester in Hollywood Undead's songs on American Tragedy, especially "Been To Hell".

Right after the long scream he takes a quick breath then goes right back into the chorus with high notes and screams. No guitar solo or drum break to catch his breath. Insane. Also, I saw him do it live and it was amazing.

I just noticed that sometimes Chester skips a lyric like "fucking" in some of his concerts. I guess there are times where he doesn't want to stress himself too much. It's still pretty amazing that he could do it. I think the best I could do is 10-12 secs. But then again Chester is a legend. He probably had a vocal coach of sorts. I remember seeing a documentary where they interviewed a metal band vocalist about him having problems. And they brought him to a vocal coach to control his screaming and breathing better.
Man I swear, linkin park gives me so fucking much nostalgia to riding to and home of France, on vacation, back when times were simpler and I could enjoy life without stress. What i wouldn't do to go back there
I've been listening Linkin Park as long as i started to develop my taste in music, this band gave me so much emotions over and over again and i am very proud to be one of this bands fans. Thank you for your reaction, even tho i listen to them to this day i am so glad to know that so many people still remember this treasure of a band.

Oh that scream! No matter how many times I hear this song and that scream it still gets me! The only other scream that gets me that way is hallowed be thy name by Iron Maiden- Bruce Dickinson is amazing too. Also it breaks my heart that Chester was lost so tragically all the while helping others cope. I have a son who battles mental illness and I’m very glad he failed at his attempt. He loves linkin park too and I feel their lyrics have helped him cope and not feel so abnormal in life.

I'm so glad you kept this song in the Minutes To Midnight album listen even though you've reacted to it before. This song is definitely one of those that gets your blood pumpin, but also stops you in your tracks when you realize the place of darkness these lyrics come from.

this is one of the songs that made my life. this was in my early youth where life slowly but sure started to get interesting and building up everything that i have today. this song brings so many memories.
His message is so relevant and strong more so today then ever as we as a society struggle to deal with this pandemic and the fallout from it. Mental heath has never been so on the forefront. Man I miss Chester my absolute fav musician ever!! I am lucky to say I got to see him live and there is nothing like Chester live let me tell ya! Absolute genius!

This album has so much in store, so many surprises. It's cool how you've mentioned the cursing, since the first two LP albums had none of it, but this one (and following ones) do contain some f-bombs here and there.

Have been facing my own demons, depressions and addictions for over a decade now and it's so true that without Chester I don't know if I would feel related to and would have the strength to go on and see tomorrow. I miss that goddamed man every day still and man I know I still need his motivation to go on with life. He truly inspired a generation to hang on despite the shit one is going through no matter what it be. Hope everyone can use his memory and music as strength and inspiration when they hit a wall or find themselves at a dead end. RIP to the greatest :(

I remember when Minutes To Midnight came out my Older Brother picked me up from school we drove down to the store to buy it then stopped for food and then just listened to the whole album in the Car and I remember this song playing and this songs lyrics hit me hard it's exactly how I felt and still feel. Besides maybe The Amity Affliction there's not really any bands that consistently release relatable songs one after another that make you feel less alone, I love Linkin Park so much they've been with me my entire life and have helped me so much whenever I feel like I'm ready to rage quit life I put on LP and just spend hours going through every song till I fall asleep.

I've always been a big fan of this song, mainly due to the lyrics and the 17-second scream. But, last year, I was able to sing this song all the way through, including the 17-second scream. Even got to do it in front of a few of my friends on our way back from a concert last year and they couldn't believe that I was able to hold it and do that high note right after
