A few days after Chester's death, I saw this image that was going around on Twitter. It was a really great photo of him, standing out above a huge crowd of fans. Colors changed to black and white, it had a small cursive caption that just said "the sun will set for you". I fucking cried.

I lost my mom in September of 2020, she LOVED Linkin Park. She had this album minutes to midnight in her car for so long I got sick of listening to it and didn't listen to Linkin Park for years. I was walking through Walmart one day and I came across Hybrid Theory and Meteora I have those in my car today.

I have never thought of this song like that but that makes sense. I always thought of it as him planning his death. As in the line "Your friends all plead for you to stay" and "Sometimes goodbyes the only way" as in he doesnt see another way out. This is why i love music it means different things to different people.

This is the first song I listened to after Chester died. This is an extremely emotional one for me to listen to. I remember barely even being able to drive home from work after listening to this song on repeat that day. I've told my family that I want this to be one of the songs that's played at my funeral. May be kind of morbid to think about but I cannot listen to this song without tearing up.

It's the feedback you give to more serious and emotional songs that made me subscribe to this channel back in the day, and that album has a lot to talk about in that regard. It's quite a journey from the perspective of the man who was always the brains behind that band staying in the shadow of one of the best vocalists in the history of rock music who one day just finds himself in the spotlight he never asked for.

Minutes to midnight was so underrated and I don't know why, maybe because it was the first time that linkin park experimented with different styles of music, problem was the standard was set so high with the first two albums that the fans of those albums 'didnt like the change' ( well they would get an even bigger shock when a thousand suns would get released) but Mike is a believer of staying trendy and evolving with the times.

Back in 2009 when I was in High School, MTV aired "Linkin Park Road to Revolution: Live at Milton Keynes" and I'll never forget watching their performance. I was a depressed kid trying to suppress my memories of abuse who turned to heavy metal and hard rock to expell my anger. So I thought I'd enjoy "Given Up" more but Chester's vocal delivery on this and "Leave Out All The Rest" just struck a chord in my heart and hepled me a lot, but after his passing I can't listen to them as much because they never fail to bring me to tears because although Chester helped dig me out of my hole of depression these songs remind me that it unfortunately got the better of him and even though I didn't know him personally it still hurts as dumb as that may seem. same, But the outro keyboard also performed by Mike Shinoda in Milton Keynes. I like the fact the keyboard sound is tremolo electric keyboard and a synth was nostalgic that reminds you of transformers theme.

The song is about deep depression and suicidal thoughts and tendency how you feel like the day is full of darkness and you try to embrace the gray days and live through the shadows but some times it takes control and you go through with it and the sun sets for you in that moment

I feel like people who say this project isn't good or as good as their other projects, haven't grown with them musically. I will try to explain it as best as I can. I am referring to that period in time when artists want to change up their sound from what they are typically known for. I grew up with them when I was younger musically (not personally, although that would have been incredible), but I first heard either Breaking The Habit, In The End, or Numb; I cannot remember which I heard first. I'm pretty sure it was Breaking The Habit, but the point is I am someone who did love their original stuff as well. However, this album is a whole new ballpark. Minutes to Midnight was a definite departure from what they created initially, but it is my personal ABSOLUTE favorite! Because I understand that artists don't always want to make the same thing over and over again. And while I love their original work, my favorite songs by them all come from Minutes to Midnight. Leave Out All The Rest, Shadow of the Day, What I've Done, and The Little Things Give You Away are my absolute favorites! I love the entire album, though but those are my S-tier songs off the album. Minutes to Midnight was actually the first album by them that I received as well, and I literally cried I was so in shock to receive it. I received it as a Christmas present the year it came out, and I didn't even know that my parents knew how much I liked Linkin Park; they are one of the bands that saved me when I was younger. Three Days Grace, My Chemical Romance, and Linkin Park for anyone who is wondering. People honestly knew that if I was listening to them that I should be left alone. And later on Panic! At The Disco was added to the music I listened to non-stop.

I've lost too many people in my life. A few to suicide. First my grandmother died from cancer when I was 8 then when I was about twelve my uncle that was like a father committed suicide... then a few years later my grandfather did the same. Then a friend that was like a brother committed suicide. Then a couple years later another friend committed suicide. Then a few months later my uncle died from heart problems and a month later my other grandfather lost his battle with cancer. It's like I haven't ever gotten a break. This song always makes me cry. I want to heal but it's like once I almost get to that point something else happens. It's alot and sometimes feels like too much. Sorry about the vent but this song just hits me so hard. RIP to my loved ones and to Chester.

another fun fact: There are other 3 versions of the same video differently than the official video of this song in UA-cam.
Some scenes are change alternatives and they have alternative endings such as Directors cut, and the other 2 versions had some different scenes.

i know i’m late but i thought i should share something with everyone. obviously i grew up with linkin park and i never really understood the true depth of this song until chester died. Earlier in 2023 my best friend died in a car accident, and it really taught me the depth of what it feels like to lose someone. then at my best friends funeral, right after the service came to a close, as i was leaving the church “Shadow Of the Day” was playing and i broke down crying. i haven’t cried that bad ever and haven’t been anywhere near that much since. i have a huge emotional connection to this song now.

I owe a lot to Shadow of the Day. It was the first Linkin Park song I ever heard, and it's what sparked my interest in music at 7 years old. It was my first and favorite album not just by Linkin Park but of all time. I'm so glad you're reacting to this album. It truly did make me who I am today because of how helpful and healing these songs are. Linkin has been and always will be my favorite band, and I love everything they did and do. LP forever

He said goodbye to us so many times and we never really wanted to understand.
No one ever wanted to understand, it was so obvious.
Over the years he has changed before our eyes, he was only 41 years old, but in reality he had much more behind him.
Every time I look into his eyes, my heart breaks.
He left the stage in the worst way for us, but in the best way for him.
