  • Navigating Trauma, Healing, and Human Experiences - Call and Response
In this compelling episode, Jason, Nathaniel, and Donald continue their exploration of trauma, joined by former professional ice hockey defenseman turned mental health advocate, Kyle Quincey. Building on their previous discussion, Kyle delves into the stark contrast between the adrenaline-fueled world of professional sports and the isolation that often follows once the thrill of the game is gone. He candidly shares how the abrupt loss of this intense environment can feel dehumanizing and disorienting, leaving many athletes struggling to find a new sense of purpose and peace.
Kyle discusses his personal journey to recovery, highlighting the vital role of community and the therapeutic benefits of plant medicine in his healing process. His insights offer a unique perspective on how to navigate the transition from high-stakes, high-adrenaline careers to a more balanced and peaceful life. This episode is a heartfelt and informative conversation that not only sheds light on the mental health challenges faced by athletes but also provides practical advice for anyone dealing with similar feelings of loss and disorientation.

    Bridging the Gap:
Battle drills in the military are standardized collective actions made in response to common battle occurrences. They are designed for rapid reaction to situations without the application of a deliberate decision-making process. For example, military personnel are trained to have their "head on a swivel" so that they are not taken by surprise in a battle scenario, or that when they hear gunshots and explosions they know to find cover rather than stand in one spot looking around. When applying this logic to life in general, a battle drill is a series of coping skills used to regulate emotions and behaviors, that when practiced regularly, will automatically kick in during times of stress.
