It's a slightly silly idea, and it's probably too late now, but if you managed to include two more chain links in you chain that would move your wheel back by approx 10mm, and might make it possible to fit the bigger tires. And judging from the video you should have enough space on the dropout to do this. Btw. be sure to try fitting your biggest cog in advance, to check that you have enough chain for it, should you need it on the race day. Good luck!
rear wheel further back would also put more weight on the front tire (albeit only slightly).
@@Skooteh I'm pretty sure if you increased the wheelbase, the center of gravity would move in the direction of the change. So more weight on rear wheel.
@@thomasvmanning Imagine if you sit in the same position relative to the front tire, then extend the rear tire out by a mile. Assuming the bike still weighs the same, more weight will be on the front then before.
@@TheyForcedMyHandLE Wut.....
@@thomasvmanning Your position on the bike doesn't change relative to the bottom bracket, so extending the rear-center of the bike moves your center of mass forward relative to the wheelbase. We're talking millimeters though, so an imperceptible difference. Any traction you might lose from weight balance, you gain back and more from the increased contact patch of a wider tire.
Frame, Tires, Chainring, gear ratio, cranks, pedals, bars, stem, back to the frame, saddle, oh wheels. This order started off so chaotic, I loved it.
I've got a 165mm Omnium crankset up in Berkeley if you wanna use em for the race.
Thanks for the update! Super stoked to follow you through this
I’m so excited to see the content! Thanks for including us in your journey. Good luck man!
Love that polished look on frames! Looking forward to the vids. Good luck!
Thanks for all your effort and content mate. Always entertaining and informative. Great guests too.
I found this channel as a fixed gear rider and got intrigued by the whole game of road racing, and now you're going on a fixed gear race! Definitely on the far side, and I cant wait to see your perspective and take on brakeless fixed gear racing. It will also be amazing if you could go city riding on the same fixie with some of these 'kids' in the races after. Fixed gear culture is all inclusive and your road racing experience will be such a refreshing take to the community.
Thanks for the vid, good luck on the race. Thought of doing fixed gear a few months ago, having Steve Rex in Sacramento build a frame. Fun times.
So pumped to see this. I love anything to do with rocking the one cog. Good luck.
Good luck. Looking forward to seeing more.
As I view this, it’s race eve! Looking forward to the race video report.
Good Luck! You're a brave man! May the gods of short-track fixie racing be with you!
Thanks Matt 🤘
You know what's fun, the first ride on a fixie do a sprint then sit up like you would on a road bike and have a brain fart and stop pedaling, ask me how I know, I didn't crash but it was sure a spectacle of legs, feet, and ass floundering in mid air landing on the cross bar 😂😂
Loving the track bike content
Would love to see more fixed gear crits and content on the whole
Good Luck Brother! Can’t wait for the next video.
This is dope. Excited for the race footage
It does look like you have enough room in the rear dropout to scoot that rear wheel back and potentially clear a 32 in the rear. I have a track frame commuter bike and was able to move from 25's to 28's by moving the wheel back. Half links are your friend for getting the wheel placement you want!
Looking forward to seeing the video on this race.
Search if you can for 165mm cranks! That is a clean looking bike. good luck Jeff!
Looking hella nice. Love the raw metal and black look. 👀
Wow intro video to fixies and then one day later BAM bike is built!! Impressive!!
Jeff, you're such a hipster! Kidding, good call on the road pedals for this track. If I've learned anything watching this channel, you'll probably win!
Was planning on going to K1 Racing to watch, but now I gotta go outta town. Looks like it’ll be a cool event. Might make Bay Climb if I get back in time. Hope the weather holds for Saturday!
Good Luck, You'll smash it I'm sure. ✌🏼
Ayyyyeee same whip. Did a full breakdown on it and have been running a rear disc with Scattos etc on the track. Great bike for Fixie Crit racing and the velodrome alike.
Also, 108 inches or BUST. Put that 61T on there BIG DOGG
Cool to see more fixed gears popping up on alot of bike tubers videos
Nice Road Crew shirt! Reppin the Lou!
Good luck! Post some footage of your test runs!
Best of luck!!
I’d find some 165s dude. Those turns are gonna be knarly
Love your videos, Jeff! Do yourself a favor and some velcro straps for your road bikes front wheel in the background. Itll help keep your walls clean and just look better aesthetically.
I'm a big fan of Favero Assioma (duo) power pedals. Been running them for 3 years, they're great 👌
All that weight is in the Black Label finishing kit. Stem, bars, and seatpost all weigh quite heavily.
Good luck jeff
CANT WAIT! Hope you enjoy riding track bikes. That's how i got into cycling. Next you have to race Red Hook Crit if/when they bring it back
Man, it would be AMAZING see him racing on RHC!
That would be crazy especially if he had a back camera too. I just think he should get into the fixie seen for fun I think it would create a new type of content for him
Do monstertrack if hes gotta deathwish
Sick bike good luck bud
I ride a black label V2 I built up. It's a great frame for the price. State just has persistent QA issues. My first one had uneven dropouts that were causing an issue with my rear hub. They replaced that with a new frame with no issues, but the second one needed about 1/16th of material faced off the the bb shell. I hope they can fix their QA issues in the future because theyre a good company that cares about their patrons
Had the same thing, first frame had a skewed rear triangle, replaced it with a new frame, rear dropout spacing was too wide! Just threw washers on there and called it a day. Great bike when all was said and done but what a hassle
That extra Q-factor on the Assioma-Shi combo might suck for a fixed gear crit. If you can source Garmin Rally RS200s, that might be a better way to go...
Yow fixie! Welcome to track~ #savethetrackbike
goodluck jeff
that intro is so slick...
what a newb , talk about the cranks and the ratio and that juicy fork
talk about the hub
That feeling when you watch a NorCal video and he casually throws shade at the saddle you have on your bike. Ooof.
Wow! Nice bike!
Jeff is flexing on us with his perfect tanline:D
C’mon let’s see race video!!
I'd be worried about pedal strike with those Assioma Duo-Shi pedals. From what I understand, they have a pretty large Q-factor compared to the standard Assioma Duos, which is the last thing you want in this sort of event. I don't own a pair of these pedals, so I'm not sure how much less cornering angle you'll have with these pedals vs the standard SPD-SLs, or even a standard set of Assioma Duos. I'd personally go with whatever you have that gets you the most pedal clearance even if you have to sacrifice power data, and that's coming from a total data-nerd.
totally agree. narrow is key for the pedals.
Just what I was thinking.
Beat me to the punch. Garmin Rally RS200s have 53mm Q and would be a better SPD-SL option.
I was about to express similar concerns. Just put on regular spd-sl pedals.
I thought those Favero power meter pedals were “look”. Compatible only? Very cool if they’ll take shimano
Can you please show up to Alviso on this thing one day?
put in two chain links, to get the rear wheel back about 1 link. then you'll be able to fit a wider tire... best of luck in that race, mate!
also please don't use the assioma, as with shimano it widens the pedal for over 1cm. you are on the lower side on pedal clearance with the 170mm cranks, so just use the ultegras without the powermeter. power is irrelevant, as it doesn't tell the whole story because braking is not being measured but adds up significantly to your effort in this race.
i am an experienced fixed crit racer, having ridden red hooks, rad races, many crits in the netherlands etc., so i hope i can help you...
The Assioma Shimano pedals are a bit wider though, so there'll be less clearance ;)
Nice setup - but: some people would give their right arm for more cornering clearance. 170 cranks with powermeter pedals may give you some more data. And a very high risk of hitting the ground. Or other riders are just faster in the corners
Hey Jeff where is the Dutch interclub racing???
Doesn't the new Shimano Favero pedals have an insane Q-Factor, have you noticed the difference? Love my of Favero duos
Chain looked maybe a little bit loose?
Where can i watch this event?
When is this race? Im after more content to watch 😁
Did you consider Speedplay pedals? Just smash your foot down and off you go!!
You need a cool pair of glasses now too!
I think I have the same frame from a company in Italy, but unbranded
The pedals can handle negative power? I'm signed up for the climb (roadie category): this is going to hurt.
cool bike but imho a bad idea to use these favero shimano pedals as they have a really wide q-factor. clipping a pedal will be a lot more of a issue with these than with pedals which have a more common q-factor.
Jeff, are you working in metric system at your job? It seems to be natural as you speak.
Would you ever race on the velodrome, Jeff?
Should put some decal on the fork and frame
Don't try and stop pedalling after the sprint. :P
no livestream?
See you on Saturday.
He’d jet black rim break wheels?
dude, you sure you want the extra Q factor of the Duo-Shi ..? I think it’s just south of 12mm extra Q. If you don’t need the power meter just get narrower pedals
Is alviso getting a velodrome 😉
looks good man but you need to tighten up that chain line to avoid it falling off!
It's good, fixie folks for some useless reason are overtightening chains all the time. A little bit of slack is ok and this is about right.
@@futurememeudontgetyet1202 its from street riding in my case because it coming off on a road is certain death
for once i must say that fixie bike looks really sexy especially with that raw alloy metallic matte finish
Doesnt matter if jeff wins or loses. What i want to see him skid this bike
just need to beware while racing
I think croder has 165mm crank
Those Roubaix tires are slow as hell. At least +10W on Turbos or 5000s. And not particularly grippy at the same time.
look at 5:27
Must be a pretty "slow" course - 46/18, that's almost the same as my 36/14 I run on my shopping bike and I usually ride ~26kph on it... Maybe I should train for higher cadence ;-)
Dremel the rear to fit the 32s
I love unpainted metal frames. I never understood why anyone would build a light frame and then put 200+ gram of paint on it.
That chain needs to be tighter
FANCY AS FUCKKK BOYYYYYY
That is a tiny gear ratio compared to alleycat racing
The track slack tho. Gear ratio boutta go crazy
v a s c u l a r
Please tighten that chain
Smh Should have listened to chas
PLEASE ride the race in skinny jeans and a wallet chain. Good luck, man.
Pittbull road pedals best and easiest pedals to get into. Guarantee fastest and easiest pedals to get into. They are a small company out of Florida. Please look into them. Please some good UA-camr like ur self do a review PLEASE!!!
18 pounds for a fixie ???
Too much
First ahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaa...
MOTHER ate my cookies now she’s highlighted
No one cares
@@Arrica101 Didn't ask.
My bike looks better. My power not comparable & after getting older I turned my black label v2 into a single speed - it weighs 18lbs - all chinese carbon bits and sram red rim brakes.
I have no idea why you would want to ride a fixed a fixed wheel bike, that is going back to the basic bike before the free wheel hub was invented. There is so many great advances in the technology of bikes today. I'm not talking about Ebikes or Di2 . Bikes are so much better today mechanically. There was a time when a fixed wheel bike is all you could get, but that time past long before I was around.
Hi! Do you obey traffic laws? Does your family?
What some weird questions
@@polychromatism3078 Yuppers, cyclists are unaccountable to bad examples and teen cyclist fatalities. Yuppers. Underage drinking and street cred explains the ritual clusterfuck in all cities. I specialize in federal capitals, so I am fascinated to get a talkative cyclist, but most are weasels impersonating human beings. That underage booze paradox really makes cycling creepy, eh teens? Like Halloween is 24/7 365, eh?
you don’t seem to know any real cyclists and what the fuck does this have to do with an indoor event??? try to stay on topic.
@@martinkent333 I assume this is a parody account. I think is particularly astute that you make this joke in the context of a video about preparing a bike for a closed circuit indoor race. Kudos for the droll humor!
@@andarenbici seems like a wildly delusional boomer when looking at his videos.
