The hairs on my neck stood up listening to Art sing this . What a performance, those lucky people in the studio audience! A very rare , special voice. But I really love Paul and art together too. Thankyou.
Weirder still…Keith Richards! Wasn’t one of the top-10 joke about the name of the latest Rolling Stones tour in 1985, “The Rolling Stones Live…and Keith Richards!” 😂
When you combine one of the greatest songs of all time with a great singer (and the perfect one for this song), what you get is ... absolute magic! The notes he hits at the end give me goosebumps every time.
The slow build of this song is unmatched. I love Art’s soft, effortless delivery of those early high notes, and that explosive ending is just heartbreaking.
If you haven’t watched the Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central Park in years, I highly recommend revisiting it… It was a great show and were lucky to have access to it
That is Definately NOT THE BEST VERSION OF THEIR SINGING. They hadn't been together for years and were NOT at their best. Plz listen to the early years versions!
@@Fonoyb As a lifelong fan of Simon and Garfunkel, and someone who was there among the 500,000 souls who experienced something very close to a religious experience, I would have to disagree with you.
Thx for this! Art Garfunkel's solo career is painfully overlooked. My fave album of his is "Watermark", a collection of Jimmy Webb songs that Art just nails and which is also Paul Desmond's last recording. Geeky sidebar -- if you can find the early European pressing, I personally think its an amazing album, before the rec execs freaked out, pulled a track and inserted "(What A) Wonderful World" (still a great song) -- which is so different than the rest of the tenor of the rest of the amazing material, that have all just aged so well. Thx again!
Thank you Carl Gomez for getting this video back on You Tube. What an amazing performance...I still get goosebumps. It just one day disappeared off of here.
Actually that is the main reason I emailed the Letterman team. I really loved listening to this version of Bridge for the past 7 years until it was taken down.
The discography site doesn't list this song on this album, which makes little sense. Is it, and can you I.D. this piano player? I've asked around a lot and no one knew. Thanks!
@@kevinschultz5678 That's a reasonable idea. Great thanks! This is your only visible reply, yes. You have no idea who all was asked and didn't remember! What was the link to?
Art has a beautiful voice, I have his CD and play a song or 2 everyday. I also love his videos, his eyes are mesmerising, I was never lucky enough do you see him in person
@@patreekotime4578 I kind of assumed that Simon either got sick of writing for Garfunkel or was sick of not getting enough credit for his own singing voice. It's really too bad Art wasn't a great songwriter.
Paul Simon and art Garfunkel absolute made great music together and we on this planet were blessed by them. All the other stuff don’t matter. We have their golden voices forever.
Was that Larry Knechtel on piano who played and arranged the piano part on the original recording. Paul thought the song was just a nice little hymn and you hear that when you listen to Paul’s original demo with just him and guitar and not all the lyrics completed. Then when Larry started that arrangement on piano everyone knew this was one of those rare special songs. There is a documentary that shows the evolution of the song. By the way Paul Shaffer could easily have performed the piano part but if that was Larry Knechtel I can understand letting the one who created that magical piano part do the honors.
Actually that is Craig Dergy on piano. He played for Art's gigs between 1993-1994. Really greatful Dave granted my email request for this performance many months ago.
WOW! I'd like to see Letterman's staff post a lot of the music guests with this great video and audio quality. Please start with the New Pornographers "Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk"!
Amazing, but man it just isn't quite the same without Paul. Likewise, when Paul sings it without Art, it isn't quite the same. I would love if they could manage to get together again and sing something, anything really.

Me too🎉!! Forever!!❤
He has such a beautiful voice, compliments Paul Simon's genius composition
My wife Sally died Oct 9 of 2023 we adopted the song as ours ,married 54 yes how I miss her. 9/10 /24
What a beautiful legatto and belting at the end!!
Amazing!
Nothing like it. I still remember the words as if it was 1973 - I will lay me down. This song got me thru some heavy stuff, love you Art Garfunkel!!
Goosebumps.
Just checking: *pfew* Art Garfunkel just turned 82 this month and is, by all accounts, still fine and among the living.
Weirder still…Keith Richards! Wasn’t one of the top-10 joke about the name of the latest Rolling Stones tour in 1985, “The Rolling Stones Live…and Keith Richards!” 😂

Yes I always liked him better than Paul Simon. Cecilia was my favorite though 👍
Beautiful! Boy the sound and air that he pushes out on those notes are so powerful and impressive.
Crushing. His eyes never leave the camera. Paul and the band were incredible.
Excellently done!! 😮
Art Garfunkels voice is truly a blessing from God

💚Definitely one of Simon & Garfunkel's best! And Art has one of the most melifluous voices I've ever heard. 💚

Wow 😮 you SO LUCKY 👍
That was amazing. Was lucky enough to see Simon & Garfunkel live in St. Paul in 2003.
Less than two weeks from turning 52 when he performed this and he still knocked it out of the park.
This was arguably one of his most stunning performances, the final crescendo, the sustained notes he manages to hit. Incredible.

An angel's voice 😇💕
Thank you, Art, Dave, and Carl Joseph Gomez.
Oh, and the band too.
Your welcome. It's really incredible to see my all time favorite singer and all time favorite Late Night icon together in one vid
Absolute legend.
There's never been a comparable vocalist. I'm so glad I took a chance to see him at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul 21 years ago.
I was in the audience that night.
So beautiful. Thanks Art.
Up til Now is a beautiful album, I could listen to it over and over.

No matter what people think about his persona, no one can deny that his singing voice is just perfect for S&G songs.
I don't even know what his persona is.
Garfunkel sings the best Garfunkel parts, indeed. ;)

Great song really great it's just like today it feels like yesterday keep the peace
such a soothing voice..

Paul is groovin' in the background.
For a second, I thought you were referring to Paul Simon rather than Paul Shaffer.
His voice still was great! What was it in 1993? 25 years since they originally recorded that album? Lucky Art.
actually Art's voice was very good until about five years ago
1973 I believe
He reminds me of an adult child beautiful voice.

People need to learn to read the uploader's notes. This was 1993.
Too much class for the Letterman show, just not a good fit. Otherwise magnificent!
