He has made dozens of child/baby raping jokes, but they go after a bait and switch gypsie joke to cancel him. Sums up the morals of the current narrative.
The same group of people who want to cancel him are the same who want to call people who do such things "MAPS" instead of pedos. Epstein didn't kill himself.
Jimmy Carr is a good bloke who tells as offensive jokes as he can, but to ridicule himself or individual arseholes or companies. He is not ridiculing The Gypsies of the Holocaust but taking the piss out of those that do.
The controversy comes from the fact that most media sites only shared a clip with the gypsy part then instantly cuts without the follow up explanation leaving causing lots of people to lose it. I blame the media for blowing it out of proportion.
The media are c*nts. I should clarify that only a portion of the media are this way. They want to stir things up and present a view rather than seek out evidence and facts.
Jimmy went on to explain the joke. It's shocking how many people think it was only Jews in the camps and I would argue Jimmy is doing a public service with this joke. Gypsies, Atheists, disabled people and a host of others were slaughtered in the camps.
Because no-one knew that Gypsies were also slaughtered by the Nazi, it must have been positive since no one want acknowledge "positive" things the Nazi did like brought weak Germany back to become a superpower in Europe and coming up with technology involving rockets got us to the moon 25 years later. I think that was the concept of the joke. Anything positive that Nazi did isn't shared toward the rest of the world. (like the Gypsies being slaughtered by the Nazi). But hey, Jews Lives Matter but folks get offended when someone say Black Lives Matter. But you talk about Holocaust, it's Jews Lives Matter, not All Lives (that is Gypsies, Atheists, disabled, h0m0, commies) Matter.
@@Renegade2786 Slaughtering the gypsies was not a positive thing, genocide is never a positive thing. Please don't try and claim I was supporting the atrocities committed by the Nazis. Inventing some rockets doesn't quite make up for the evil that was committed and becoming a superpower in Europe is only a positive if good things are done with that power, and I think slaughtering millions of people is not a good thing.
I'm autistic i commented that alot of us were killed in The Holocaust and someone tried to jump on me for false equivalence. So i pointed out that hans asperger was part of aktion 4 and am speiglegrund and calling autistics Asperger's is like calling identical twins mengele's. Most of it sailed over their heads as they're to busy being offended to actually read deeper into the subject.
@@Renegade2786 what in the actual fuck are you talking about? I'm not sure if you actually believe thisis what Jimmy was saying or you are being super sarcastic. No, Jimmy did not mean that the killing of gypsies was an actual good thing. He makes satire and dark jokes. He makes jokes about raping children, doesnt mean he actually does it. And i have no idea what your point of the jew thing was. Mostly jews was killed, so that is what is mostly talked about. I do not know how school in your country works. But we certaintly learned about all the groups of people who were targeted by the nazis. Jews got more time in history class because that was the MAIN mission of the Nazis. Again, i have no idea what you are talking about. Im not even sure if you are trying to defend nazis or not. Your comment is weird.
100% Agree. You said it before you continued watching the rest of it, everyone goes on about the Jews, everyone remembered the Jews. But nobody ever brings up the gypsies, the disabled, the social outcasts who were also sent to the camps.
My grandparents were Hungarian gypsies and a number of my relatives were lost in the concentration camps...they are very rarely mentioned or remembered...Jimmy doesn't offend me in the least....
@@lynnhamps7052 it is only meant to be his style of comedy, I always think that if he offends somebody then should just not watch him, eclectic beard mentioned Christians but even the Romans used to sacrifice them to the lions in the collusiums, might I add that cancel culture is the reason we don't have good comedy anymore, whatever happened to Sticks & Stones? It works as a joke. What's funny is, it's not even his most offensive joke. And you can make the argument he brought awareness to a group of people not many teachers teach about.
The joke was at wider society seeming to not care about gypsies and disabled people, not at the people who were killed. People didn't like it because it exposed something about themselves that they didn't realise before and didn't like. He even explained it and provided Context as you say. People watched it specifically looking to be offended.
Did you notice how people were on the immediate attack when it was announced that John Cleese was doing a programme about cancel culture? It hasn't even aired yet, but people are already criticising him. I think it's similar to what you've suggested, in that they're scared that Cleese might expose something about themselves that they didn't realise before and didn't like, so it's easier to try and get him and it cancelled beforehand.
We were taught in school about all of the different groups persecuted and murdered by the Nazis. This was in the early 80's in the UK. The school was considered quite radical at the time despite being a state comprehensive; no uniforms, teachers in jeans & t-shirts, no Lord's prayer at assembly. The head of the science dept was a well known activist and wore a star of david badge alongside a pink triangle badge on his combat jacket. The school had consistently higher than the national average of working class kids going to university, probably because debate and thinking for yourself was encouraged. All cancel culture is doing is dumbing everyone down and preventing discussion.
What gets me is cancel culture is legit taking anything that might offend anyone, truth or not and being like "Nope, we can't have people hear this, they might believe it or research it to make their own conclusions and therefore it's dangerous and we have to stop it". It's more dangerous than what they're trying to actually cancel.
brave teacher there with his pink triange in the 80s - maybe not, maybe not many people knew what it meant and probably still don't. sadly UK has seen it's own cancel culter of sorts for years, is going to the dogs.
@@sandramalone9977 Hi Sandra. He was very brave, and not Jewish or gay. If I remember rightly he was married to one of the other teachers there. He also had the obligatory CND badge and a hammer and sickle. But best of all he was a cracking biology teacher, always interesting and the day we dissected a cows eyeball will stay with me forever.
I'm a lefty, and I'm sure plenty would call me "woke", but trying to cancel dark humour is embarrassingly idiotic. The comedian and the audience aren't laughing at the holocaust, or the deaths of gypsies, they're laughing at the shock of what the comedian said, that the comedian's on-stage character is so out-of-sync with the rest of society. We're laughing at the social faux-pas of this character's attitude. We're not laughing at the subject. Jesus. We automatically laugh when somebody falls over. We don't laugh because they might be injured or because we like people to suffer, we laugh at the social faux pas, that the person has done something you're not supposed to do, that they've lost their social dignity in that moment. This really isn't rocket science. Some of us really need dark humour. It's escapism, it's an opportunity to laugh in spite of all the crap happening in the world, not BECAUSE of it.
Well put....after 44 years in the NHS...our dark humour would probably result in...who could say...looking forward to This might hurt ...on the BBC tonight
@@OldDevlin all woke cancel culture types are lefties, but not all lefties are woke cancel culture types, in the same way that all racists vote conservative but not all conservatives are racist.
I’m in total agreement with you Sir. As long as someone is talking about it then it’s not going to be forgotten, and it should NEVER be forgotten. It was an horrific act to beautiful people. Love the channel and much respect.
Dark humour is the "British" thing. We're famous for it. The French even refer to dark humour as British humour. To cancel Jimmy Carr, would be to cancel what it is that's funny about British humour. You might as well cancel Britain. Any Brits that endorse the canceling of Jimmy do not understand their own culture or identity. Talk about cutting off your nose despite your face!
Well that's the entire point of it though. The woke mob WANT to destroy the cultures of their respective countries, and they want to destroy individuality aswell.
Thanks for finally showing me what the actual joke was. SO many of the people reporting the outrage wouldn;t say the joke and I even saw one where they got another comedian to comment and SHE claimed she even looked at the context and still found it awful. Well now I have seen the context, I am assuming she either didn;t actually watch or is being paid to lie by someone.
I'm probably what you'd call a bleeding heart lefty but I agree with you 100%. Cancel Culture is no better than book burning. If people thinks ideas and views are wrong/ dangerous they should acknowledge their concerns and discuss the issues but trying to negate them helps no one.
The contrived "deconstruction" just a device - or loophole - for Carr to tell _another_ joke about gypsies, they've been recurring subject in the botoxed-up Cambridge graduate _tax-dodger's_ routine, as he toured the provinces over the last two decades. It's not about cancelling this guy, I just don't like the weaselly fella.
A lot of people have condemned Jimmy based on just hearing or reading the joke. But there is a lot of context lost by just listening and reading the joke because they only show or write this bit. "When people talk about the Holocaust, they talk about the tragedy and horror of 6 million Jewish lives being lost to the Nazi war machine. But they never mention the thousands of Gypsies that were killed by the Nazis. No one ever wants to talk about that, because no one ever wants to talk about the positives." Nothing beyond that is generally shown or written so people who haven't seen the whole show doesn't get the full context. also at the start of the special, he says he is telling jokes, not doing the thing the joke is about. And if you listen past the joke Jimmy is pointing out that is as he says an educational point to be made about many types of people the Nazis killed and those that are often overlooked. And it's Jimmy Car, he is always pushing the boundaries and trying to offend people, he has always done a bit at the end of his shows where he tries to see where the audience draws the line. I know people who have been to see Jimmy live and have left early because they didn't like the jokes and I had to ask why they bother going, what were you expecting? I watched his Netflix special, I saw the name of the show and I knew it was Jimmy Carr, I knew what going to watch.
I'd guess at least 90% of the people outraged by this haven't actually watched it, they've read a clip of the routine. When you watch the whole thing, hear everything he says, as you said, it's not even close to the most conventional thing he's said on stage. Glad he's so far not apologised
Why is it, when a German points out his grandfather was a Nazi, we're all understanding, but when I tell folk about my Granddad winning the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, they call him a traitor, just because he was from Wigan?
You Nailed It, so many in the UK, MSM, Journalists, Politicians etc are putting quotes around the word JOKE, they are trying to put forward the idea this is this isn't a joke it's his OPINION Of course if you listen to the whole routine you see the whole picture, in the UK the Media Politicians etc aren't talking about the routine just the hook line, many refuse to watch it, yet are only too willing to express an opinion on what they've read BUT NOT SEEN !
Sir, I agree with you 100%, Start of the special Jimmy asks people to digest that he says some heinous shit in his jokes, but joking about rape is not the same as committing a rape. I’m fairly certain this won’t hurt Jimmy too much, those that like him, still will, those that don’t like him, probably never smile.
I live in an area where just down the road are traveller sites. You see them in the shops etc. I drink with quite a few of them down my local and they all thought the joke was not only funny but informative as you say, not a lot of people knew it wasn't just Jews the Jerry's went after.
Yeah, this is the thing. All of those people are offended for the Roma, but not even bothered to talk with them. That shows that it is them who are racist.
@@andriusbruzas9211 I'm not so sure its a racist thing. Ignorant to a degree yes but not racist. Traveller's don't do themselves any favours either though. Most are assholes and most are thieves. Trust me I know. I grew up with the Gumballs and the Brinkleys lol
As a Brit myself. I 100% agree with you. Jimmy Carr along with many other comedians, are well known, and loved by the British communities, and other people of the world. There has been dark humour in the world long before the world wars, as long as there's negativity in the world, dark humour is sure to follow, it will never be cancelled, it is just one way for people to deal with horrific events.
Thank you for this breath of fresh air! Too many people are just reading the headlines and not understanding the story. As you say, a very clever joke/education combo. I have worked alongside military people and they have jokes that are so dark, you'd need a black hole to illuminate them. My sense of humour is often used as a defense mechanism to protect me from things which scare or upset me, the same way military or emergency service people do which sometimes causes offence, but it's vital to preserve sanity. One of your countryfolk by the name of Reginald D Hunter does a bit which is so relevant and it goes something like this; "How can you watch a comedian onstage and be offended? How can you see a comedian onstage and not thing that mofo could be **joking** ?" My great grandfather died in a concentration camp. The clumsy bastard tripped over a machine gun and fell out of the tower. 😆 There, the previous two sentences were a joke, if anyone reading this is offended - you can kiss the entirety of my spotty pink arse! Stay safe, everyone. 💚🐇🐴💚
Stan Boardman got cancelled before it was a thing. At a Royal Variety performance with the Queen present, he told a joke. His uncle was a Spitfire pilot during the war. After the war, he was invited to give a talk at a posh girls school. He said, one time, he was low on fuel and out of ammo. There was a Fokker on his tail, two Fokkers on his port wing and another Fokker on his starboard wing. At this point, the teacher interjects, "Girls," she said, " A Fokker is a type of German aircraft". "That may be so" says Stans uncle, "but these fokkers were in Mescherschmitts" . Stan never appeared on tv again.
Jimmy is known for his dark sense of humour, he can be contraversial but the majority know this and are fine with him. The problem is that there are some, the minority, who have lost their sense of humour and don't find him funny whereas many others do. Sadly, there are some who have given up their sense of humour for some pseudo-sense of band-wagon.
E.B. Love the channel and your content and you're bang on the money with what you said. It was so tame compared to some of his jokes. I find Jimmy Carr piss funny and nothing is sacred. His comedy is so well crafted that you can't help but laugh.
I'm willing to put money on this being an invented outrage, pushed by certain [right leaning] UK tabloids. It feels like a Daily Mail / Daily Express type "outrage", especially with the timing; a month-and-a-half after first being aired. I'm willing to bet one of the reporter took a cut of the first part of the joke, before the explanation, and showed that to someone who usually get outraged about things for others, and asked for their comments, without them even seeing the full joke.
I couldn't tell you who pushes what in the UK, and to be honest, I couldn't tell you a red hairs difference between the 2 political "tribes." But I can say that, over here at least, the whole cancel culture thing comes from the left almost exclusively.
@@ivermectin1908 like those books the right is "canceling". You know, the ones exposing the US' history. Oh and there was that bitching about " French fries". Not forgetting the whole Mr Potato Head, the M&'s characters, Dr Seuss, plus many more because the right is amazing at being hypocrites; bitching about the left "canceling" people for being racist, but then demanding the canceling of everything that doesn't still comply with their outdated worldview
@@simu31 I'm confused. You don't like people not telling History, but want Dr Seuss canceled? I can tell you that every single center, center right, and center left person I know defends freedom of speech. The only ones I see yelling down speakers and demanding people be deplatformed are the fringe. Be it far right or far left. I also know that until we can stop hating people who disagree with us, we will never get anywhere except war again. Then, a bunch of people will fight and scream and even die, until it inevitable leads to where it was always going, 2 people sitting down and discussing their differences like adults.
@Roller Coaster Machine You're correct, you're confused. Nowhere did I write that I wanted anyone canceled. I was, on the other hand, pointing out the error in your previous comment about: "cancel culture thing comes from the left almost exclusively", which is bullshit. I pointed out several examples of the right demanding someone / something be cancelled. But you somehow managed to confuse that with me wanting to cancel Dr Seuss and not tell history. I'm hoping you made a simple reading mistake, rather than trolling
You are absolutely right in everything you just said, and I completely agree. Ive seen most of Jimmy's content and this does not even come close to the worst of his jokes. People need to understand they're just jokes. And you're right, there is an educational element to it also
Hi, EB. If you don't mind, I want to offer my own perspective. I'm Polish and my Grandfather {a resistance fighter} died in one of those camps in 1943, aged only 22, leaving behind his wife and 2 yo daughter {my Mom}. Even though my family was directly affected by the Holocaust, I still find Jim's jokes funny and not at all offensive. Humor, especially a dark one like that, is a way to make such real life horrors bit more tolerable and understandable to an average human being. Moreover, modern pop culture has no problem with dehumanisation of the Nazis themselves by portraying them as some kind of space faring menace from the Moon, zombies etc. which is just as dangerous as dehumanisation of their victims. Why? Because if we will keep caricaturizing them to a point when they will no longer be recognisable as people, sooner or later we'll forget that each and every one of us under certain circumstances has potential to become a monster.
Exactly, my friend. They asked Mel Brooks why he put Hitler in all his films, and he said "Because I was afraid of him, and when you laugh, he's less scary."👍

It also highlights the horrendous discrimination the Roma people (gypsies) and other travellers still face in Europe, particularly in their Eastern European homelands. Are many of those objecting, only objecting because they are being forced to see their own racism?
Thank you Mr E Beard. It's brave of you to aline yourself with Jimmy. He always says offense is taken. Not given. Just because it doesn't fit with the pushed narrative of the 6million. But includes other groups. It means that one group no longer has a monopoly. IMHO.
I can see why people might be a teeny tiny bit upset. Jimmy Carr is a bit one note, saying "edgy" things for shocked/funny response but it's worn a little thin.
What happened to "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." It's more like "First they came for the xxx & I didn't speak up because I wasn't a xxx ... and then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

They cancel anyone these days. It's all about changing definitions and whatnot. They just make every major word, that actually meant something. Now meaningless. A VERY dangerous road to go down.
Part of a comedian's job, is to point out the absurdities of the world. One of those is rightly remembering that six million Jews who were murdered, but forgetting about the Gypsies, the homosexuals, the Jehovah Witnesses, the communists, the socialists, the Slavs & the various other groups who were also murdered. If you are offended by this humour, that is your right. I personally am more offended by the people who claim that none of it happened. I am offended by the governments who knew that this was happening, but did nothing. I am offended mostly though, by the knowledge that unless we are vigilant, this could happen again.
Exactly! Our own British government knew exactly what the Nazis were doing in those concentration camps YEARS before they decided to march in and 'liberate' those camps - they had written testimony from their own agents out in the field - and they not only CHOSE to ignore all the evidence presented to them by those agents and DO NOTHING, they also hid the information from the British public, suppressing any and all attempts to get it into national newspapers or publicise it anywhere. I was disgusted when I learned that.
I completely agree with you, I cannot stand cancel culture. People need to lighten up more and also realise that a lot of people find light in dark humour.
I got my son to watch your reaction. This is the he first time to see the whole clip. My son as myself and husband feel it’s typical dark sense of humour but it’s very educational. My son until this clip thought it was Jews only killed in the Holocaust. He has completely drawn a younger age group and educated them with brought humour. I’d give him a big pat on the back for being an excellent comedian and outdoing teachers on the education front. We’ll done Jimmy and well done you for showing us the full clip. Keep up the great reactions love your laugh and your intelligence
I saw Jimmy last Sept and he makes it very clear from the outset about his material, if you don't want to hear it, don't buy a ticket, and don't watch his videos. He even tells you in advance the line he is about to cross and when he does, it's funny! It's not to eveyones taste, if you take offense DON;T watch, simple.
I’m Jewish. Each one of my four grandparents were the only members of their family to survive the Holocaust. I have no issue with this joke, nor do I have any issue with the jokes Jimmy has told specifically about Jewish culture. Why? Because I trust the position that Jimmy is coming from. It’s blatantly obvious that under the darkness he is coming from the right place! I also have no issue if people are offended by this joke and choose, in their personal life, not to watch Jimmy Carr again. I only have an issue with this orchestrated twitter/social media mob trying to bring Carr down in this manner. It feels so timed. This special was dropped on Christmas Day and the scandal happens now. It feels like they were waiting for another Holocaust related scandal (Whoopi) to occur that they could jump on the bandwagon of. How about instead of trying to bring someone down, use the joke to bring about positivity. Talk about how traveler’s are still very much maligned today. Talk about the cultural issues they face and the judgements they are subjected to. Take the joke and use it as a jumping off point to affect positive change. Canceling Carr does none of that!
I agree 100% with what you have said. I think that the cancel culture mob are too effing lazy to try & bring about positive change; ffs they may have to drag themselves away from their screen& keyboards & actually do something rather than just like or retweet something that someone else has written.

As a Briton I can whole heartedly say, we all joke, jest, communicate in this exact same fashion. To be frank, if you sit long enough in a pub, cafe or McDonald's you'll hear or be involved in much riskier conversations. There is never malice or intent given, only sharp one upmanship to prove and hone the whit of those involved. As the saying goes sarcasm is the lowest form of whit, but the highest form of intelligence. We Brits take that literally. 🙏
"As a Briton" - so you think travellers go into pubs and laugh at how their ancestors were the victims of the Nazis? Maybe "Britons" joke about stuff like that because their privilege never allows them to experience such horrors.
I'm sorry you don't joke about the Holocaust. I knew hardly anything about it before i visited Poland and went to Auschwitz. That day changed my life and hit home to never take life for granted. Whether you are Jewish, Catholic, Christian or Romany, it doesn't matter. Innocent people lost their life in prison camps during WW2 in such terrible ways, and the people who survived had to live in such awful conditions. This should never be joked about. I bet Jimmy Carr has never been to Auschwitz, because if he had, he wouldn't have made this joke. If you get chance, please visit. It will change your life.
Sorry, sometime to highlight certain things that are often overlooked (such as more than just Jews dying at the hands of the Nazis), dark humor is how you spark conversation. If controversial laws on gypsy's or travellers weren't being bantied about in Parliament would this have even been a thing seeing as this has been out since December of last year? Probably not. Is it the entirety of the joke that's the issue or just the fact that the rights and laws being discussed now are making this an issue?
Saw the complaining but not the show. I knew it would be funny and clever, he always is. Jimmy knows what he's doing. He's on multiple TV shows and his tours are sold out for years. He's untouchable just like Clarkson, Hamond and May. If you try and cancel them you just increase their audience.
Well said, mate. Jimmy Carr can take us right up to, and just a little bit past the offensive line, but his jokes, especially the objectionable ones are so well crafted that your brain makes you laugh before you can tut tut at him. Plus we need this dark humour during this grim bit of history. It literally keeps you from going insane. Sadly it takes a lot less than that silly joke to fall afoul of the self appointed cancel mob here in Australia.
On a certain media channel.in the uk they only show the first minute of the joke, up till the part where he talks about the positives of killing the gypsies, then they start condemning jimmy carr. They dont even show the full joke
Hi my bearded buddy, Listening to you talking about Jimmy Carr was strange, as I heard my very words coming from deep within your beard. Spot on my friend, keep up the good work.
I remember watching a TV programme about the haulocaust. The lady was bunked next to a gypsy. The gypsy asked to see the girls hand. She told her you will survive this. In the morning 🌄 the gypsy was dead. She remembered her though. You never know who's life you will touch. So always be nice if possible.
I've made numerous arguments in defence of Jimmy Carr here on various other videos and platforms, so I won't bore everyone by repeating them all here; not to mention that by reading other comments, I can see that many of the points have already been raised. What I will say, though, is just how hypocritical the whole thing is. For example, two of the most prominent people in the UK to have "slammed" Carr over this joke are a Jewish comedian and a Gypsy celebrity known for bare knuckle street fighting. Now, I haven't heard them complain about any of this other jokes, whether they've been about paedo's, rape, homosexuals, porn, murder, or any other 'touchy' (for lack of a better word) subject. So, it stands to reason that either a) they condone making light of these subjects (which ofc it is fine to do in comedy, but it's a weird moral stance to take to not complain about those jokes but then to complain about this one), or (and I suggest this is the most likely explanation) b) they only care because it's vaguely about them and their heritage. Firstly, it makes it highly hypocritical (refer to 'a)' for why), secondly it suggests they're insecurity about their own identity, thirdly it's insulting to victims of horrid things like rape and domestic violence to say this is where the line in the sand is, and fourthly it's asking for the thought police and communist checklists to become engrained in comedy. If we cave into this outcry (and I say outcry despite having a sneaking suspicion that the vast majority of the relatively small amount of people who signed the online petition trying to cancel him are gypsies themselves), we openly invite other groups to complain when they're offended, which will result in eroding comedy away bit by bit until there's nothing left to make jokes about. It's the total opposite of the 'mandatory fun' in some German towns, which in itself is highly ironic.
I went to see Jimmy live two months ago, and it was a packed full house. People were trying to buy tickets outside the building and they offered me hundreds for mine and I told them no. He's not cancelled, he's bigger than ever. They tried, they failed.
Again -100% with you. This has been all over the media in the UK. Listen to these woke radio presenter procrastinating there view when they probably laughed at the joke. What Whoopi Goldberg said was ignorant and uneducated, That’s more upsetting. Keep up the good work of voicing balance and reason
I personally cannot stand "cancel culture", i'm on the political left but this comes from the fringe left AND right wing of politics. Fringe left wants to cancel anything that might potentially maybe hurt someone's feelings, fringe right wants to cancel anyone speaking out and pointing at their flaws. Both sides seek control over others, this is not the way to make changes, and it certainly does not provide a sense of togetherness. But i do know what i do blame for all this..... the ridiculous "Participation Culture" and with that i mean, stuff like "Participation prizes because everyone's a winner", this has lead to self centered thinking and a sense of overconfidence in one's own abilities, all while nobody learns about hardship and struggle anymore, to overcome adversities and challenges... everything is handed on a silver platter these days and this is what it ultimately has created. A "My feelings are more important than your feelings" generation... generations actually.. this isnt new, if it was it would not have gotten this far yet, but over the decades... it has come this far. We're now as far that people do not accept that their favorite person lost something, be it at sport, entertainment or politics.. people no longer are willing to face facts because they've been taught that facts dont matter.
Yes, it’s all feelings over facts. I am so sorry for my grandchildren growing up in this culture. Hopefully it will not last long seeing how absurd it all is.
Ultimately everyone has the right to be offended but no one has the right to not be offended. I agree with your thoughts on his comedy, thanks for giving it a platform.
I am afraid we now live in a world where the very thing that took us out of caves is the very same thing that is going to put us back into caves. Ugg will be the only safe word to utter and I have no doubt that will offend someone.
Totally agree with you, academics and communist, loads of people who didn't fit the arion ethos, and Jimmy carr evev tried too explain to the thickies lol
Snowflakes everywhere, there was a local rock band called "Thieving Gypsy Bastards", the lead singer was an ethnic Romany Gypsy so it should not be a problem really. One of the most horrific events and in the top ten. Certainly the one with the most records on file. Others on top in the hip parade were by the likes of Stalin & Mao Zedong with competition from Pol Pot. Might be interesting for you to watch a video on what the Germans did on Shark Island and what the Turkish did to the Armenians. Jimmy Carr is right to keep this memory alive with his dark humour as there are so many wannabe genocidal maniacs out there.
Not to mention that the first thing totalitarian regimes do is curtail freedom of speech; the second thing they do is divide society for the benefit of their own ideological clique. The irony of extant wokeism weaponising compassion!
Agree with everything you've said in this video. I love how cancel culture conveniently omits context, when they get their pitchforks out. Jimmy Carr even makes a point to explain the joke at the end, for the ones that aren't smart enough to see past their own knee jerk offence. Cancel culture is just a form of fascism disguised as a "social justice". If you look at the behaviour of so called "social justice warriors" and the culture in general, it scarily reflects Communist Russia, Fascist Germany, the German Stazi during the cold war period and many strict religious groups, in that it uses intimidation and threats to silence people's ability to think for themselves and speak their own minds. I don't find that an extreme comparion, because people have lost their careers and have been publicly ostracised for simply making jokes that have been taken out of context. That form of intimidation and manipulation of free speech can only lead to worse things, as shown by history. Social justice has rightly attacked basic racism, sexism and homophobia, but there seems to be a rabid element of that culture which seeks out offence where it doesn't exist. I truly believe that these types of people are power hungry over the way in which they can ruin people's lives. I get the impression that they have little power in real life, so they thrive on that little bit of control they have online. To me it's a form of bullying and brainwashing, with the magic get out of jail free card of "I'm doing it for good reasons". I've personally seen quite a few people's behaviours change for the worse with this culture, where completely non bigoted friends have neutered their speech for fear of reprisal, while others have become self appointed arbiters for justice, putting themselves and their ego on a higher level over a deluded self belief that they have a right to police their friend's and families thoughts and opinions. I've lost a few friends because of it, and I'm sick of the whole thing.

Not only that, but the cancel culture doesn't even watch or listen to the "offensive joke". They read about it and get 3rd party offended. They have ZERO context and make no effort to find out if it's really that bad. They just jump on the bandwagon without having a fucking clue about why they are so offended. I cannot remember what it was, probably Jeremy Clarkson, some woman went on telly the cry about being offended and that this person should be sacked or canceled. The interviewer (who must have known this) let them have their say and simply asked "have you seen the clip?" Her answer? "No" SMFH.

#CancelCancelCulture I've seen this pop up all over Bing Newsfeed, and Twitter Trends whenever I'm looking for something, all week, but haven't bothered watching it until now, as I've been too busy updating IMDB as usual. I've only "watched" or more accurately listened to it now, as I was eating my tea, so couldn't watch another video which relies on vision, and eat at the same time. It's as I expected... A tame joke, which is nowhere near the level of "offensiveness" as some of his other jokes, yet the Twitter brigade who think they're the world, just like most Americans think the USA is the world, think they're in a majority, and try to cancel him. Then countless clueless politicians and journalists jump on the Twitter brigade bandwagon as usual.
Ricky Gervais did basically the same joke during his 'Politics' standup (Hitler talking to Nietzsche). He also did some raw Anne Frank jokes. they are dark jokes, they are meant to make you feel uncomfortable. you are not laughing at the subject you are simply 'not crying' at the horror, it is a coping mechanism it is why many doctors, police, fire and armed forces have a very sick sense of humor, if they did not, some of what they have to cope with could eat them alive.
I watched this on Netflix when it came out and I genuinely couldn't think what joke it even was so I watched it back again and remembered. The problem is the cancel culture mob don't care about context. They latch onto one thing and that's a wrap, that one little piece outside of an entire statement is offensive, we have to end it. It's tiresome.
@@TheEclecticBeard I know it's everywhere. There's not going to be any comedy at all soon, we will be going back to silent farce crap from the silent black and white movie days lol
i personally don't see a problem with the joke - it was educational and got a point across that a lot of people won't have realised or thought about beforehand. people should realise that the nature of JC's humour is controversial and very near the knuckle at times - however he doesn't speak about events, people, cultures etc with malice or contempt, most of us are smart enough to know if that was the case. To quote Ricky Gervais, "Making people laugh is easy for me. I'm quite proud of that. But I'm prouder of silencing an audience for a minute because they're thinking about something."
In Britain comedy was always used to deal with hard times. Death, no work, no food, all sorts of things. People could do little about it so they laughed rather than completely break down. The more tragic the situation the darker the humour it was the only relief they had to make fun of others worse off.

@@sassyjintheuk Indeed.
@@stuartspencer2161 What?

Good point...most people I know are busy working for a living than being...well..outraged..

No one ever wants to talk about that, because no one ever wants to talk about the positives."
Nothing beyond that is generally shown or written so people who haven't seen the whole show doesn't get the full context.
also at the start of the special, he says he is telling jokes, not doing the thing the joke is about.

I am absoulutley agree totally on what your saying , they need to shut up and get a life , well said👍👍
I'm not offended by this joke, my grandfather actually died in Auschwitz. He got drunk one night and fell out of his guard tower.
it was released on Christmas day, it took until most of, if not all of January for it to be offensive, utter bullshit, he even says at the start that these are all jokes, not opinions
also, I was more offended at the camera angles they used on this, don't like the way he looks at the camera to make the punchline lol
@@iamdb1990 weve had a variation on that in the NHS, people complaining we are looking down at them....bit hard not to...when they,re lying drunk on the floor of Accident and emergency..
Ska Steve, great post, thank you 🇬🇧

I’m not a Jimmy Carr fan , but this is not something he should be censured for.
well fucking said Alan respect from me here in Great Britain 🇬🇧👏👏👏🇺🇸
I almost never make comments. However anyone that tries to rip the guts out of cancel culture deserves support. Big thumbs up from the UK.
Dynamite reaction, you're a straight shooter brother, and Jimmy too.
Keep on telling the truth, if people are offended, that's all in their own heads.

They pulled 1 sentence out of what he said and went after that.
It blew up after someone posted the joke clip on social media.
Nobody has ever been offended to death. Which is a great pity.
Hi my bearded buddy,
Listening to you talking about Jimmy Carr was strange, as I heard my very words coming from deep within your beard.
Imagine watching Jimmy Carr, not noticing the title His Dark Material and getting offended.
Al Murray " the French had a revolution, which resulted in a lot of dead French people . . . Progress"
Better brace yourself Al 😁
If you go to see or turn Jimmy Carr on you know what you're getting.
I'm a lefty and I agree with you, your comments on the joke are spot on and cancel culture should be cancelled. Good one!
Thank you for making this video, you highlight exactly why he shouldn't be cancelled.
As usual it's people being offended on behalf of others who weren't offended in the first place.
Amen 🙏
Yes, it’s all feelings over facts. I am so sorry for my grandchildren growing up in this culture. Hopefully it will not last long seeing how absurd it all is.
@@markborder906 yeah, usually this type of excesses dont last too long, let's hope its the case with this too.

I am afraid we now live in a world where the very thing that took us out of caves is the very same thing that is going to put us back into caves. Ugg will be the only safe word to utter and I have no doubt that will offend someone.

Brilliant piece of marketing by Jimmy and netflix, gets more people watching just to see what he said.

They got loads of hassle about the band name, none of which was from the Gypsy/traveler community but from police and snowflakes, in the end they changed their name.

Frankie Boyle and Al Murray have said equally 'offensive' things often over the last decade or more. He's a scapegoat.
Funny how they claim to hate fascism, while they act like fascists.
@@TheEclecticBeard I sometimes hate everyone and everything even myself, then Mrs C, tells me off ,and pours me another drink and we watch another episode of Major crimes...unless these keyboard warriors have been in a proper fight which I doubt very much..they need to go and lie down ..hopefully under a ton of falling masonry...
"No" SMFH.
@@invisiblekid99 I had this argument the other day, with someone who said they 'were offended on the gypsies behalf'. I mean, WTF. How is that even possible? If the day comes when someone says that they are offended on my behalf, they're getting a kick in the bollocks.
Comedy needs a risk. If ban all "offensive" comedy, it'll die. If all we have is people like Peter Kay (one of most favorite comedians btw) then comedy will die.
It fuckin' ridiculous, they'll cancel Doug Stanhope and Ricky Gervais next. What is going on these days? Do they want us all watching braindead Reality TV and gameshows now?
I think Gervais said the whole point of his next special is to get cancelled.
And Dave Chappelle and Jim Jefferies and Stewart Lee. They're all controversial comedians. We'll be left with nothing funny in the end.
@@TheEclecticBeard And I'm sure I remember a Stanhope bit where he complains that he's been trying to get a media outrage response for years by being as fucked up as possible but that he's not famous/mainstream enough for them to care 😁 He's a gem
I think the outrage against cancel culture probably generates more clicks than cancel culture in itself.
I don't think the butt of the joke was Jehovahs witnesses. Much more of them were killed by the Nazis than other Christians. I think he was highlighting all the groups you don't hear about which isn't a bad thing, I don't know why people have took offence when you look at the context.

The last 2 years and a crap thieving government have changed people. Now we can do something.
