    I met Jimmy Carr on one of his tours in about 2008-ish. He didn't have a lot of time but he made sure he stopped to chat to everyone and came across as a really nice, genuine guy. Absolute filth on stage, a real gent off stage (we'll leave his tax returns out of it lol).

    • @MaffeyZilog
      @MaffeyZilog Рік тому

      I think his response to getting caught showed he was a decent guy.
      He filmed 8 out of 10 cats that night and literally just said "things you've been talking about this week, I'm guessing....me" and he took every joke with good nature and even took the actual insults (from Jon Richardson) with good grace and admitted he'd been out of line.
      That's why I hate PR sometimes, he said sorry and meant it so why, years later, are some people still calling for him to apologise.
      It's like saying sorry has lost its meaning if you don't repeat it for the rest of your life.

    • @DyslecticAttack
      @DyslecticAttack Рік тому +4

      @@MaffeyZilog his public apology was literally surrounded with being roasted by comedians for an hour within days of it coming out. He made sure that nobody made excuses for him, and while he kept it light hearted overall, he made sure to emphasize that only he was to blame. He then also paid it back (even though legally he technically wasn't "required" to (morally he certainly had to, but nobody could force him)), and has continued to take any critisism over the years head on.
      Both Sean and Jon were ideal for the roast, because while Sean is a bit cheeky about it, Jon is straight forward, both were disaproving, and both managed to make some clever jokes in the moment. It's a far better apology than any of the others that got caught made.

    Gary Glitter was one of the most successful Glam Rock artists back in the 70s topping the UK charts with his Glitter Band year after year. But behind the scenes he was an habitual podophile and was convicted and put in prison. Having done his time he was released on licence so that the Probation Service, Police and Social Services could keep a watchful eye on him. He opted to travel to several South Asian countries known for having lax or often ignored child sex laws. He was thrown out of or skipped one country after the other and hounded by the press looking for a headline. Having been extradited and convicted of more child sex crimes in Vietnam he eventually returned to the UK where he surrendered his passport (was banned from travelling overseas) and was then convicted yet again. The simple fact is he is a very sick man who disappointed his once adoring fans and has brought countless misery to children around the globe. Wikipedia says he may be the most hated man in Britain.

      @Lauren Lewis They made Crap music! That alone tells me you have no idea what the hell you are defending. I know age of consent varies across the world, but you are defending a dirty old pervert. That simple. Whether he looked at pictures, whether he messed with kids, whether their parents allowed it or not is immaterial. A man of his age and success knows what is right and what is wrong. Ok, in your terms, as you seem a little weird yourself what is 'Acceptable' and what is not. In Western Culture it is not 'Acceptable ; for a middle aged man to 'fraternise' with a 14 year old. Getting it yet.? Neither is it 'acceptable' for him to have pictures of children in poses that are not normal for children. What you are suggesting to me is that this 14 year old's family 'sold' her to Gadd You are not helping his cause dear.

    We need more comedians like Jimmy Carr who can force us to face up to the fact that political correctness is killing our sense of enjoyment, "Oh you can't say that, it's offensive" - no it's only offensive if you look at it as offensive and don't look at the joke. Assie's & kiwi's are always taking the piss out of each other but we know it's a joke and give one right back, we have a laugh & share a drink then watch some footy together, hopefully one of our teams beating the crap out of the bloody poms, again with love. Lighten up world and laugh at yourself just as the late Dave Allen did, his jokes were normally at the cost of his fellow Irish countrymen & Catholics (his church), if you can't laugh at yourself, you can't laugh honestly.

    Gary Glitter was a glam rock singer popular and quite successful between the early 70s through to the 80s.
    His music career was then truly destroyed and irreparably damaged in the late 90s when he was arrested, convicted and subsequently imprisoned for downloading child pornography. He was later deported from Cambodia and Vietnam for charges of child sex abuse, before returning to the UK where he was placed on the notable Sex Offenders Register and more recently in 2015 he was found guilty of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault/sexual assault and having sex with a girl under 13 between 1975 and 1980.
    Only Jimmy Saville (another child sex abuser and sex offender) compares to him when discussing big British celebrities who fallen from fame because of their vile history.

      Rising Damp and favorite comedian I've seen and reacted to... That's tough. Billy Connolly, Dave Allen, both hilarious and probably 2 of my favorites along with Al Murray. I'd throw Ricky Gervais in as well since he can be very cerebral but also irreverent in his comedy which makes for a nice dichotomy.

      Some of the jokes are verging on racism, from a different era, which I don’t condone, however Philip always comes out the winner by appearing educated suave and calm, unlike rigsby.

    one thing you need to know about Jimmy; he was brought up in an ultra religious family. he didn't leave that life until he was in his mid 20s. he lost his virginity, aged 26 and then became as obsessed with sex as he used to be about religion. so he has a quirky perspective on everything sexual and is very open and honest about it
