First our favorite if we must only have a single tomato in our garden ( I'm 73 and we're thinking we'll need to reduce the garden at some point of our life and today's choice of only one favorite is Black Krim and it's 70 percent of what we're gardening for slicers..Also In use we have different dishes to consume the many tomatoes so don't compete salsa tomatoes on a steak sandwich. Having said that I'll enjoy seeing more tomatoes. I'm reducing my garden in size but only testing a couple at best but it's good to try many to find favorites. 6a Mid Ohio USA. Our best All around slicer is Black Krim and I've been mastering to follow sunflower with tomatoes for 2 seasons having great results of course I've claybase soil as much of Ohio Midwest soil so we'll drained is a must for great results.
Black Krim is in my next taste test video (3) although I couldn't quite make out the flavour. I did comment on it and I liked it and would grow it again but I don't think I did it justice to it on the video. I'd be interested to know how you'd describe its flavours.
Great video Chris. I’ve really enjoyed Alice’s Dream, Rebel Starfighter and Honeycomb so far this year. Lucid Gem should be ready today and looks amazing. My Sart Roloise fruit is still green and although tall with many flowers, appears to have been stunted with the challenging weather this season. Ive also got Dark Galaxy, Pork Chop and Purple Sunrise ripening amongst a few others. Pleasantly surprised by Black Krim, Black Moon and Black Strawberry. Whilst I’ve had some grey mould/botrytis in the greenhouse, the outdoor sucker plants are stronger and healthier plants, albeit a few weeks behind. Looking forward to part two. Always brings a smile to my face watching your reaction to Alice’s Dream and now totally get why!
Thank you Kaz, AD, RSFP, and HC are some of the best I have tasted so far, LG is gorgeous too and I think I'd grow it just for the colours! I've had a little of the grey mould in the polytunnel but nothing really bad yet and the plants that were trimmed out and have two stems are much stronger than all the single stem indeterminate plants. I'm definitely going the two side shoot (stems) route next year.
Ooh looking forward to this 😋 we loved our first ripe Alice’s Dream and it is a definite winner here!! Garnet are fab too. All the rest we are waiting for them to ripen
I'm patiently waiting for my Lucid Gems to ripen...this week for sure. This is making me want it even more!!!!! I grew it because of your taste test last year. Excellent as always!
Great video, Chris 😊Beautiful tomatoes 🍅 I've added the top 2 for next year 😀 Had grown Uluru Ocre and am growing the Sungold Select this year, but not quite ripe yet
They're both wonderful tomatoes and well worth trying, although I am aware that what I like might be completely different to everyone else 😂. Tastes are so subjective.
Looking forward to trying Alice's Dream not ripe as yet. Will be interesting to hear what Sungold Select are like. I have had a large crop of Sungold F1 which have been lovely. I have grown Tumbling Tom's in a variety of size pots and troughs. I think overall a minimum 12 inch pot is best but doesn't need to be too deep. Thanks for another informative Chris 😊
@veggieplot they did and we have been eating them for weeks Chris! 😁 They are very nice we like them very much. My Mum says they are like sweets😆 Next year I think I will grow them and Honeycomb, Striped Stuffer again too. My Alice's Dream are just ripening.
Lovely tasting. I had a taste test of my Alice's Dream, Black Strawberry and Queen of the Night and thought they were all excellent. I have just picked my first Anais Noir which is finishing off ripening, looking forward to my favourite from last year. I have Sart Roloise and Lucid gem in the green stage. Haven't grown either before. Definitely going to grow your Cherry Falls next year, looks a great early abundant tomato. 🤗
Cherry Falls has been a real star this year with hundreds of tomatoes. I've let them ripen on the plant over the last couple of weeks and they are still loaded. I can thoroughly recommend them.
Sorry for the late reply Sandrine, I hope you've had some ripen up by now. It can feel like forever when they take their time but this weather certainly hasn't helped. Are you growing anything exciting this year?
Thankyou. I have not tried any of these tomatoes yet and hope I can plant them next season. There is such a huge variety which must be lovely to try them all to see what you like.
You're welcome, Brenda. There are plenty more to come in the next few videos, perhaps I can tempt you to some of them too. You might be busy next year 😂 🍅
Thanks Ali, I saw the Sungold you enjoyed... you must have had more by now? I do hope so or I'll have to send you some of mine 😂 Have a great weekend 🍅
Good show, I've got my fingers crossed for a new tom I was trying 'Berkely Tie Die' it won a blind taste test at some US homesteading show 5 yrs ago from hundreds of varieties and thousands of tasters, took me 5 rs to get some seeds to the UK, thought it was a regular size tom but mine came out beefsteak size, no toms ripe yet tho!
I've grown the Pink Berkeley Tie Dye which is a beauty, but not the Green. You're right about the size, and they're a good producer too, with plenty of tomatoes on the plant. Good choice.
I’m devastated 😢 got blight in my greenhouse first time this year 😭 all I’ve managed is some Sungold and rose quartz - but the big ones I don’t think I stand a chance at 😢 would still love for you to try my Gerald’s Mystery - but know how hard it is to whittle down a grow list as it is! 🥴 I’m gutted I won’t get any this year myself 😩
Oh no, that is so upsetting and I feel for you. They take so much effort to get them this far and to have that happen is devastating. I can't find any image of Gerald’s Mystery, how would you describe its colour and flavour?
@@veggieplot it’s a yellow/orange bicolour with the distinctive red swirling inside - exceptionally fruity - tropical almost! Best picked just under ripe in my opinion and given a day or two inside to just finish it off! Delicious though! You’ll have to let me know! I know how challenging it is deciding what to grow when we have so many seeds! 🥴🤣 but it’s certainly one I wouldn’t be without in my gardens! 🙌🏼
Im growing Alices Dream for the first time this year. They have grown well, are the size of large apples. I waitedcquite a few weeks for them to ripen. Tried The first ripe one the other day. It was very dark on top and had turned a deep orange. It definitely felt ripe. Very disappointed to find it had very little flavour. I grew these ones on Quad Grows in my greenhouse and used the supplied fertiliser combo as advised. I have one plant in my garden which is not ripe yet but Im hoping for better flavour. Do you think the flavour could be affected using the Quad Grow system of growing? They look so good and healthy too. Ive had two ripe ones so far but unfortunately they were both the same. I'm also growing a yellow F1 called honey Delight. These are very sweet and juicy with very little acid. I found the plant in the garden produced better flavoured tomatoes than the ones in the quad grows in the greenhouse although the green house ones were good too and ripened quicker. Curious to know if anyone else had a similar experience to my own? Really fancy trying Lucid Gem next year.
Several people have asked me if growing in the ground in my polytunnel helps with flavour and I wasn't sure. I know the weather has been so up and down that many plants have failed to produce their best this year. I am not sure about the Quad Grows as I do not have any although I do grow in Hoselock growbag troughs and they taste fine. There is compost involved and the greenhouse gets very warm so may be there is something in it. Lucid Gem are another great tasting tomato, I hope you get to taste some at their best.
Is it a year already Chris😂 just love your tomato reviews 🤗 I'm salivating 🤤🍅 Is it possible to save seeds from my Alice's Dream for next year? 💚🍅💚🍅💚🍅💚🍅

You're really buildiup my expectations of Alice's Dream! My little seeds have just germinated...🍅❤💛
Haha, I hope you like it as much as me, it really is a corker of a tomato. I guess you're not in the UK so I hope you have a great season.

I bought the seeds for Lucid Gem because of your review last year. They came out great. I agree with your assessment.
Oh that's great to hear, I often wonder if my taste buds are playing games with me when it come to tomato flavours.

the difference between the ones in the shops and our own is massive to go out and bring in a tomato from the green house brilliant
I couldn't agree more, there's nothing in the shops that can compare to homegrown.
great video
Thankyou. I have not tried any of these tomatoes yet and hope I can plant them next season. There is such a huge variety which must be lovely to try them all to see what you like.
Oh, I hope you can Brigida, there are so many delicious varieties out there. I read somewhere that there are about 10,000 tomato varieties worldwide!
Thanks, I have put 3 of those on my list for next year and am looking forward to adding more from your selections.
You're welcome, Brenda. There are plenty more to come in the next few videos, perhaps I can tempt you to some of them too. You might be busy next year 😂 🍅

Yes, you can. It's an heirloom or heritage tomato, so it will come true.

Thank you @gardenaddict, it seems to have come around so quickly. You certainly can save and share the seeds, and they should all come true.
