Bugatti hits 304.77mph in a Chiron | Top Gear

- Top Gear can exclusively reveal that Bugatti has smashed through the 300mph barrier. On 2 August 2019, Andy Wallace hit a vmax of 304.77mph in a pre-production vehicle of a new Bugatti Chiron derivative at Ehra-Lessien, becoming the first hypercar to break 300mph.
The velocity is verified by the TÜV - Germany’s Technical Inspection Association - meaning Andy and the prototype Chiron supersede previous really, really fast runs from SSC (256.18mph two-way average, 2007), Hennessey (270.49mph two-way average, 2013) and Koenigsegg (284.55 vmax, 277.87 two-way average, 2017) as well as punching through the mythical 300mph target.

Yeah. You just have to modify the entire car. This is a bullshit land record. The car was rebuilt. Wing was removed. Car is 25 cm longer to provide less drag and the bodykit was improved to provide less drag. Weight was removed from the car as well. Passenger seat was removed. This is not a production car. According to bugatti its a pre-prod. Might have different gearing.

You're right .304 mph is more that 490 kph. Take 304 times it by 1.67 ( 1.67 km in a mile). They got 490 because they times it by 1.6 instead of 1.67 . It's 1.667 and a few other numbers is what it actually is.

@nobodyx2 I don't think that's true. Like in your Wikipedia Link, the two 380/381 Signs are just advisory speed limits. You are able to drive over this speed, but they just don't suggest ist. We don't really need such signs anyway, because 130 is the speed we know as the widely advised speed limits.

400 kph is 240 mph . 90 kph is only 54 mph. 490 kph is 294 /mph. To get to 304 mph you will need about 107 kph instead of 90. Take 507 times it by 0.6( 0.6 is how many miles there is in a km)

Put a bomb in the middle of the car, it'll run both directions AT THE SAME TIME.
The Chrion did not run both directions.
They decided not to do that because this track is usually driven in the direction we see in the video. Because noone really went the other way, the technicians were afraid that because of the "brushing" countless cars did on the tarmac, it could mean a lot more stress to the tyres going the other way.

It was because they ran out of straight. The tires themselves are only rated for 521km/h, but they did carefully choose the tires (using X-ray) to put together the perfect set of tires for this run (meaning they looked for tires in michelins stock that had no imperfections and picked those).

The Chiron SS 300 can actually do 55-60 miles at this speed before the fuel runs out. The tires were good, in fact Michelin tested them past 515-520 kph and they were well within limits. Michelin actually put an extra layer of Carbon Fibre weave in the fabric, except for that that it's actually a standard Cup2 and can be bought stock in the near future. Pretty amazing how far they've come since the Veyron huh?

@@matzepizzaheld8541 it's still a production spec vehicle that will be launched. For starters the electronic limiter had been taken off. They might be used lighter rims. But it easily comes under 'stock'. Found out that the engine as tuned up to 1600 hp and added safety cell. However it is confirmed to be released as a limited spec edition. Without the slight modifications it could've reached 270-275 mph.
