Lyrics:
Acrid tongue and low tide
Parched and sick
Purified
Uncontrolled burn
Divine
Parched and sick
Purified
Divine
You won't see a night again
You have been disowned
Divine
Uncontrolled burn
Divine
Parched and sick
Purified
Divine
You won't see a night again
You have been disowned
Pray for night
Pray for night
Acrid tongue and low tide
Parched and sick
Purified
Uncontrolled burn
Divine
Parched and sick
Purified
Divine
Take the first breath
And try to breathe again
Every time that you wake
The sun is never down
Day over and over again
GENGHIS TRON make their return with their highly anticipated new album, Dream Weapon! The band’s first new studio outing in over a decade, GENGHIS TRON’s Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky are now joined by two new collaborators: vocalist Tony Wolski and Sumac/Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn. Together, the lineup perfects the unique mix of extreme rock and electronic music GENGHIS TRON has pioneered over their storied career. A melding of hypnotic rhythms and densely layered synth soundscapes, Dream Weapon was recorded and produced alongside long-time collaborator Kurt Ballou at God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, with additional production and engineering by Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe) and JJ Heath (Rain City Recorders).
Lyrically and conceptually, Dream Weapon picks up where Board Up The House left off.
“That album’s closing track, ‘Relief,’ was about how humans have become a burden to the planet, and how Earth will endure long after we’re gone,” Jordan explains. “There is sadness at the end, but some relief-and beauty-too. Dream Weapon is, loosely, an album-length meditation on that theme.
From the ethereal, almost robotic vocal phrasings accompanying the industrial attack of “Pyrocene,” to the chaotic, pulse-pounding drumming acrobatics and cyclical guitar patterns in the album’s triumphant title track, Dream Weapon is not just a nod to GENGHIS TRON’s celebrated past as a metal/progressive/experimental outfit. The new album redefines what these genres, sounds, and musical elements can achieve. Dream Weapon is a record that captures GENGHIS TRON at a matured, focused state; the ebbs and flows of the album are just as hard-hitting as they are dreamy, soaring, and meditative.
Seasoned GENGHIS TRON listeners will find Dream Weapon to be both excitingly fresh and reassuringly familiar. “Though it sounds a bit different than our previous albums, I don't think we approached Dream Weapon any differently than the others,” Jordan explains. “Michael and I take years to write and trade demos, with about 80% of our ideas landing on the cutting-room floor. Once we have a rough song idea we both like, we write dozens of drafts of a song over months before we end up with a final demo.”
“I think one difference in our approach for this album was that we had a strong sense from the outset of what kind of vibe we wanted to create,” Sochynsky adds. “Something more cohesive, meditative and hypnotic."
Through the album’s inventiveness and rejuvenated approach, Dream Weapon marks another bold step forward in the wildly creative career of GENGHIS TRON, and cements the band's legacy of groundbreaking, genre-defying innovation

Thanks for the great comments and hilarious takes everyone!

This is possibly aoty. If not, it is going to be a great year for music.
This album announcement made me forgive 2020.
I came into this expecting a new Board Up the House and I was a little let down without the screams and blast beats, but I gave it another listen without expectations and I absolutely can not wait until the album comes out. This is absolutely amazing. I love every thing about this track. I don't care if there isn't any blast beats or very little screaming, if I want that I can listen to Board up the house. This is new and fresh.
Now I just have the expectations for the rest of the album and I hope it's just as good.
Yeah, with BUtH being in my top 10 albums of all time I am naturally really saddened by this change in direction. Not that it's bad, but not what I wanted. I've flirted with the idea of carrying on the early Genghis Tron sound with this band (TIMŌRĀTUS) and think I will move in that direction since they seem to not want to recapture what their early stuff did. Again, this new album (from the 3 tracks I've heard) are NOT bad and I can still enjoy them, BUT they are definitely not what I wanted in a new GT album personally.
I don't think anyone really wanted it, but the beauty of time and growing older is that things change. That aggressive energy we had when we were young is replaced by jaded cynicism and it's not a great look.
Thankfully BUTH is recorded and will always be there, just listen to it again.
Also the main part is in 5/4 it's wonderful.
I like turtles
Love the direction they've taken, always pushing the boundaries of their music - rather than being tied down to a sound they invented. Can't wait for the new album to drop in its entirety.
Yeah man granted I havent heard this band in a LONG time but its completely different from what I remember.....and I aint hating it at all tbh.
criminally underheard! fantastic combination of complexity and accessibility = 10/10 banger single from impeccable sonic marauders! the whole album is a genre-bending game changer not to be missed!
This year just keeps getting better and better
That ending hit me so hard. Fuck this is cathartic.
Wow these guys have come a long way since their days on Myspace some 15 years ago...not what I was expecting, but a pleasant surprise
I hope this is heard by more people... What an insane record
There's nothing wrong with evolving. I am eagerly awaiting the full release in just ten days.
FULL RELEASE!
if we're playing scientist, i'd classify this as a new species. this is not genghis tron
Been with the boys since dead mountain mouth... Love this. Genius
Bangin lads!!! So stoked for the album
Love thissssss, already a top track of the year...
Just pure intensity 💙
I knew these guys were gping to get better over time.
Been a fan since 2006
Killer sonic journey, love where it goes
Well done guys ... such a underrated band, true pioneers of this era. Great to see you back.
Shut up
Definitely some Health and Autolux vibes in the vocals and a little bit in the instrumentation. I did not expect this, but this is dope!!! Looking forward to the whole album.
Autolux is underrated as fuck
Sooo great and lovely to see someone finally mention them!!!
Diggin' these new trax🔥💀🔥
Love this!
This is possibly the best song ive ever heard. Fair play GT
The last 2 minutes are absolutely beautiful
Oh fuck yes. I just assumed that these guys were done with this project. So fucking glad they weren't. The new vocals are a nice touch. Can't wait to finish the rest of the album.
This was hinted at with the Dream Weapon single a few months back. Personally I love the more ambient, textured sound they're going with now. I can get my loud scream fix from other places. I might end up liking this album more than Board Up the House.
Still no idea what menance y'all have done on the drums but goshhh the best ❤
They're much more better now! Keep on with this new sound, it's superior to the stuff you released before. there are recognizable understandable lyrics, and they have a singer with a great voice to deliver them. And on top of that their drummer is stunningly good.
I highly enjoy the new album but imo I wouldn't say it's superior. Board Up The House was absolutely amazing. I felt they perfected their original sound on that album. Dream Weapon is amazing as well but I highly enjoy the heaviness of BUTH and DMM.
Great energy on this track.
this world rejects me/this world threw me away/this world never gave me a chance/this world’s gonna have to pay
YES!!!!! Beginning definitely had "Burn" there!!!
Finally rock n roll survivors
Surpassed their previous records For Me with this Gem.....can understand die Hard Fans too with their Disappointment with the new direction....
That drum pattern reminds me of NIN.
Got a NIN, Colossal Squid, Depeche Mode, Team Sleep kinda vibe too
BURN

Masterpiece!!! Finally, been waiting since '08
Yes bois.
Love this! Cant wait for the new album!
i'm so hyped, so great you're back!
PERFECT!!! WELCOME BACK!!!
Amazing new direction. I honestly cannot wait. Nick on drums, too?!
Nick is so amazing. With Sumac, The Baptists and now this.
"excitingly fresh and reassuringly familiar" indeed
Video is flashback inducing. Good shit.
This is so fucking great!
Board up the house was phenomenal, this is different for sure, but make no mistake, still phenomenal!
This is innovative
''Solide'' as we say in french!!! WoW!!
Genghis Impact
Underrated comment
I forgive you everything. Love the new sound
I check just about every day to see if Relapse let them release another song on YT for the new record. I'm glad Kurt is overseeing production. Dude is a genius.
Groovy
very good job
If this was like their side project band I would probably be more okay with it. It's not bad by any means just is not what I was hoping for.
Finally a song that's on the same level as Board Up The House album. The last 2 singles where decent but this is jawsometastic to the max yo! 🌷🤘😎🤘🖤
Nick! Nick! Nick! Nick!
Cool 💯💯💯😎✌️
YYYYYYYEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
💛
Way better than the other song.
Yo this is a fuckin masterpiece
I love when bands “sell out”
It becomes their best work
Entombed: Wolverine Blues
Carcass: Heartwork
Metallica: Black Album
Etc. I could go on and on. Evolution and growth produce musical genres
Why does that ending just rip into me?
i fucking love it!
reminds me of trans am with the mars volta
I like the new sound but what happened to mookie?
honestly? I love that their songs are longer and kinda krauty
Better, i going to listening pet shop boys
Sounds like NIN & Oasis had a love child
Which is basically Steven Wilson, theese days. 🤷♂️
Geordie Walker all day
HELL YES!
Someone liked Old s Formula lp
I thought the same
Nine Inch Nails - Burn
Moby
If the music of Tool and early NIN had a lovechild...
Who in their developing years, often gets random visits from their long dead uncle Syd.
This is what it would sound like.
There's some deceptively complex music occuring here.
no hardcore enugh
drugs are good!
I totally thought this was NIN at the beginning
It’s okay to be disappointed. Just admit it, you are too. Admit that this is fine, but if it wasn’t from some of the people responsible for the old Genghis Tron you wouldn’t be taking any interest in it, you don’t have to deny it, it’s okay to not find this interesting. Not saying it isn’t competently made music, but it’s indistinct, it’s okay to admit it, give yourself a hug and go board up the house.
My musical tastes are NOT one dimensional. I’d like this if it wasn’t them.
Nah this stuff is dope af
Everyone was onboard when The Contortionists went from Exoplanet deathcore to Intrinsic prog metal. I never quite felt the same energy and passion though and lost interest with that band shortly after because of the change. Nothing wrong with change, but it wasn't for me. Sadly, I feel this is going to be the same case as well.
Intrinsic was still Progressive Deathcore to some extent, Language was when they truly became a Progressive Metal band but change wasn't bad for The Contortionist, I personally consider Language to be their magnum opus. Hope you at least give Dream Weapon a full listen when it comes out.
@@Gravityys I never said change was bad, just that it wasn't for me. If you like The Contortionist for any album that's great, they're very talented musicians. I just can't get into the lulling atmospheric music scapes that so very slowly build up; it just puts me to sleep man. If you like it, more power to ya, I'm just saying the change wasn't for me, but I'm not knocking anyone else for enjoying it. Between the Buried and Me does a good mix of things tho to keep me interested enough fwiw.
@@StarlordStavanger Don't worry I'm completely aware of how differently some folks are built and I can now see why Genghis Tron's new sound has "lost" you, BTBAM are a great example of a band that does indeed excel at keeping you at your toes with shifts from sections of blistering heaviness into their lighter and more melodic counterparts. Genghis Tron, like The Contortionist; have traded their "heavy" sound for something more ambient and maybe even more progressive and it sounds absolutely amazing to me but I get why someone of your tastes may not like the new sound. I still think there are exiting things to be heard in their new sound but excitement is subjective I guess.
@@Gravityys we like the same bands, just disagree on which albums rock us the most, no worries man :P
@@StarlordStavanger Cheers bud, have a nice day/night!
We need more brutal, abrasive vocals, man . I'm sorry
Yeah missed the death metal vocals too yo.
Tbh if this was a side project I'd understand it more.
damn. i can think of lots of band that do this boring kind of electronic aimless soft rock. i can think of no other band that did what genghis tron used to do. ill listen to the whole album when it comes out but if its more of the same i will probably never come back to it. just so toothless.
Not sure I'd call it toothless, but there are plenty of bands that sound like this that I personally enjoy. Instead of sticking out, there are just kind of in the mix with this new sound. I wasn't expecting GT to take this route. I'm still stoked for the album and I hope it's good. Change isn't always a bad thing and so far I have been on the more positive side of this change. Board up the House was such a great album it was always going to be hard to top, even if they didn't take a 10 year break.
@@evilstuart perhaps if they had changed their name. seems like they are trying to use their former status to draw in listeners. to me this might as well be a new band. i understand evolving and not doing the same thing over and over, so i give them the benefit of the doubt. so far though, on their own merit, the songs released so far are dull. if the name genghis tron wasn't attached i would skip past these songs and forget about them quickly.
@@xthegorgeousx honestly... I have thought that too and I'm a huge fan.
Out of respect for the masterpieces they released in that era... Just try to respect what they are doing. If you are disappointed don't give the band shit. They are back and making music and I for one am happy that they are back. Who knows, we might see them surprise us in the future and go back to their spastic, grindy, glitchy roots.
@@Genghis_Sean_ thats the problem. i don't respect what they are doing. i am disappointed (so far) by what they are doing. i find it so bad that i wouldn't even bother giving them shit for it, ill simply dismiss them and forget about them. im saying this as someone who looooooved their old stuff. i wouldn't mind this new style if if was interesting or had cool hooks, i haven't heard anything yet that would make me download this. but whateves, others seem to like it so im in the minority.
I sure do miss the days when Relapse were a brutal entity you could count on. 😒
Guess we'll stop production of our death metal albums this year.
@@relapserecords thank you for what u have been doing from the very beginning
@@relapserecords You just need to go back to your glory days in the 90s when you released landmark albums, such as "Relapse Records Clubs Lots of Baby Seals Vol.1."
Granted, it all fizzled with Vol. 3, as you'd run out of baby seals by that point. But where there's plenty of cute labrador puppies and a baseball bat, there's a way.
The drumming is really the only good part left to this band. Much too tame otherwise
That's not what you mama said...
This album.. it’s… it’s just awful. Just so awful. RIP ghengis tron, you were beautiful once upon a time
Change your name, you are not Genghis tron from MySpace
Is this a tool song
