      Keep watching.....you'll see. You are watching "beginner" videos here. Keep going......

  • @BeetleBuns
    @BeetleBuns 6 років тому +3

    I tend to rush setting up my rigs when putting a fresh leader on, and sometimes end up doing it the "wrong" way. While it can be done properly that way as others are stating, it twists up the loop and causes more than a few headaches with thinner lines... the way shown in the video works so much better. Take your time on the water, and do things correctly... the fish aren't going anywhere, and you'll save time in the long run.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  6 років тому +1

      Thanks as always. Again, better to do it the right and easy way than the "sort of wrong" way with additional steps.
      The thing that alot of folks are forgetting here is that most of these videos are geared towards the rank beginner. In order for it to be easy, you must simplify things and break down in easy terms. Do it this way, Don't do it that way. No need for further words or complications.
      We WILL get to more Intermediate topics and concepts moving forward but not during this "Getting Started in Fly Fishing" series.
      Stay tuned!

    So, I know I’m a bit late, but I was curious if you have to buy fly leader or if you could just tie a perfection loop on a piece of monofilament and just attach your fly to that? Or is it necessary to buy a fly leader from a fly shop?

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  5 років тому

      A properly tapered leader is your most important piece of gear....or at least tied with your fly. Watch this:

  • @jazztoad54

    thanks for the video! If you use a knot instead of the loop, don't you lose fly line every time you cut the leader off to change it?

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  5 років тому

      Yes, but the idea is that you would not cut the leader off so it's a non-issue. Once you tie the butt section on there, you would rarely if ever change it. You would just alter mid sections and tippet sections. More coming on this. Stay tuned.

    I am very confused and frustrated. I can’t see how your putting the line together. I tried putting the line through leader and then leader through line and it didn’t work at all. I need a video that shows this with big brightly color lined.

    My first time fly fishing the guide had it set up this way and between spots drifting we’d pull our line all the way in and this connection between line and leader kept getting stuck in the top eyelet

      Dutch Carson Well....don’t pull it all the way in. Simple solution.

    Does the liter need to be the same weight as the fly line?

    I have a question for you that I’m really confused about. When you want switch flies you cut the tippet and leader down I assume. So essential you have to carry several leaders and tippets with you at all times???
    When Bass fishing when you run out of leader you just cut some more monofilament off the spool tie it to the braid and your good to go.
    Am I missing something?? I’m confused about fly fishing, I really want to try it but not sure about the whole changing flies thing

      Yes, you will always be adding tippet and changing leaders. Watch episode #9 in our Getting Started in Fly Fishing Series and it will help you out.

    Hallo there.
    Now what I would like to know is how I connect a leader to the flyline when the flyline has NO loop at the end.
    I heard of braided loop connectors but here I don't get them.
    Can you help me please?
    Greetings and tight lines from the Čech Republic 🇨🇿.

    So it works with thick twine but everytime I do this with thin leader and tippet it comes apart once I tug on it?

    I cut the welded loop and make a nail knot

  • @jasperbillie3294
    @jasperbillie3294 8 місяців тому

    If you happen to do it the WRONG way, keep the leader loop loose and pull the loop up the fly line and take another hand and pull tippet side of leader away while holding the leader loop, and then pull both leader and fly line away from each other to seat the square knot.

    Thanks for these videos Brian, I've been fishing for a number of years and tend to enjoy fishing mostly for carp and tench these days. I've never tried fly fishing and can't wait to give it a go. I've just attached my leader to my fly line (with the help of this video) and have watched all your Fly Fishing For Beginners videos, so I at least have some clue on what to do! I'm half way through your Carpin video series, and hope to learn more, before I get out on the bank again. Any advice on what flies to use for carp in a lake would be massively appreciated. I'm not sure whether dry or sinking flies would be the best option here. As they are bottom feeders, I'm guessing sinking flies, but you have also mentioned using dry flies too. Greetings from the UK, stay safe bud.

      Just also add (without realising), I purchased a 4x leader with two droppers, so effectively I can fish 3 flies at once. I don't know if this is a good idea. Can I mix things up with dry and sinking flies, or is it best to stick with the same type of fly with this kind of leader?
