Im new to fly fishing and your explanations of building your own leaders helped me comprehend and understand the dynamics and reasoning behind the why and when behind different choices in leaders and tippets. Theres definitely a learning curve to fly fishing and doing it properly, while also being productive, when compared to fishing with a spinning or bait casting rig. Fishing for trout in streams is different from fishing for bass or pan fish on a lake or pond. Again, thank you for clearing the air on that topic.
I use figure 8''s but I am moving from Alaska to a lake Erie watershed. . this is my first exposure to this knot. is there and advantage beside ease of tying with cold hands? this does seem like it would be easier with light line and cold hands.

I would like to makeup several leaders with loop on each end of specific length with same size loop like several 18" with 3/4" loop on 10lbs test and same with 1 1/2" 20 lbs test using pvc pipe to set size of loops
Would you take that mono leader and attach a fluorocarbon leader with a uni-knot in a lighter # to act as a tipet or what is tipet??? I got a fly rod about 14 years ago and have no clue how it works!

I’m brand new to fly fishing and was gifted a 10wt rod and reel spooled with 10wt intermediate sinking line. I fish saltwater and will be learning this set up from the shoreline. Will a perfection knot hold up to fish in the 30 lb+ class fish? I target striped bass, albacore and bluefish. A 10-20 lb fish is norm and 30+ is possible. Hi there I’ve just watched every one of the perfection loop videos on you tube, studied them all very closely as I don’t think this is as good a knot as everyone thinks. Now I might be wrong and in a way hope I am, but I’ve tied a dozen perfection loops on each end of piece of line with my own loops which I’ve been using for ever on the other end (basically a loop of line with an overhand knot with a twist in the standing line). So, I’ve got twelve pieces of line with the perfection loop at one end and my other knot at the other. Fingers in each knot and pull (one at once)! Every one broke at the perfection loop! Now I’m no genius and I don’t have any laboratory testing facilities, but it seems to me that the PL is not what it’s cracked up to be! Honestly I would love to be proved wrong, so if anyone would like to get back to me I would be most interested. Thank you by the way for the video. Martin from England.

Using this knot to pre-tie my own leaders and I've done knot breakage test with it and every time, no matter what pound line I use, it breaks too easily at the knot. I'm tying exactly and is following step by step, as shown in this video...what am I doing wrong???

.017" - in Maxima Clear that is 20lb Make sure to use Maxima Clear or an equivalent STIFF type mono. Nail knot a 6-8" piece on the tip of the line and tie a perfection loop in that as shown in the video and you'll have a loop connector. All set. I tied a perfection loop at the end of my leader's butt section (It didn't come with one), but it seem s to slide to much. Am I tying it too loose? Or alternately should I skip the perfection loop and use a snell/nail knot to attach it directly to my fly line?

No real advantage. Whichever is easier for you but we find that most folks prefer this.

Can I use this to loop tippet to my skagit sink tips as well as to my streamers? I have a hard time seeing to tie a non slip loop knot

To make it a welded knot would just melt the tip of the fly line so it doesn’t pull threw?

I tied a perfection loop at the end of my leader's butt section (It didn't come with one), but it seem s to slide to much. Am I tying it too loose? Or alternately should I skip the perfection loop and use a snell/nail knot to attach it directly to my fly line?
Porpoise Power It shouldn’t slide if tied right. Your choice there on the “method”. Feel free to call the shop if we can help further.

@@Madriveroutfitters 3rd times the charm I guess... not sure what I did wrong the first couple times. Maybe some part of the knot flipped the wrong way or something during tightening.

Thank-you very much, I've got it now. Pretty embarrassing knot tying skills on my part. I used to always tell myself "can't tie knots? Tie lot's!" Pretty useless trying to fly fish on the Bow River in Calgary, Alberta. Hope I learn from all your videos. Thanks again.

If the loop can be closed by pulling the tag end, is it wrong?
