In addition to the OG M2, you may want to include the F87 M2 Competition as an alternative as well. There's no denying the new car's mechanical capabilities and the S58 is a gem of an engine. However, deciding whether to upgrade to the G87 for me is all about as you put it the "Design Language". Not a big fan of how it looks. BMW are certainly creating some polarising designs of late.
I’m not really a fan of hatchbacks but was surprised by their stats. Still, I’d prefer the coupe, although the rear end of the G87 looks.. weird. I’m sticking w the old BMW!
The F87 M2 Competition is so much prettier, and it's the last of the line made in Germany. (The new ones are made in Mexico.) The M2 Comp also has the same torque as the new G87 and is lighter, so that slight increase in HP won't matter in the new, heavier version. Throw in the all-digital, tech-nightmare of the iDrive 8 system, and the more old-school M2 Competition would be my choice all day long. I don't want to drive a sports car with a dash that looks like an iPad. A Tesla or SUV, perhaps. But not an M2.

Nice ! I quite like this, not as much as the outgoing M2C, but it's a lot nice than the M3/M4. Maybe one day I can trade my M140i for one, and drive it until I give up driving, as I have no love for the SUV's, EV's and other bloated crap.

The car design wheel never stops spinning. I dropped my pin at the 3rd gen Audi TT RS for its timeless engine and future-proof looks. BMW is just lost.
I just sold my f87 instead of getting the new m2/m3/m4 i bought a 2020 m4. Bmw has lost all sense of design with these new models it's not all about power it's also about looks. Will be intersting to see the impact the design on the new m2 will have on sales. And the performance kit for this new m2 🤣🤣🤣 R.I.P
I would definitely take the old one. In the new M2 you get all the extra horse power, but no extra acceleration, hideously ugly body, the instrument screen that's just chucked on top of the dash (like they could figure out how to integrate it ) and zero benefits over the previous model. Very disappointing BMW. 😞 Definitely will help previous gen cars resale value. 🤔
Sorry, but I cannot take new BMW M cars seriously, because their rev-counter is much inferior to old analog ones. Let me explain: I enjoy rev-matching with manual transmission cars because it is so rewarding to precisely predict where the revs will land on downshifts. It is a large part of the driving-joy for me. However, with the new digital rev-counter in BMWs it is much harder to read the revs, because it shows them only in 1000rpm increments on a small, hard-to-read scale (the old display showed in 500rpm increments). This clearly demonstrates that BMW has stopped caring about manual transmission drivers. BMW: please bring back the old rev-counter in digital form! It was perfect in its legibility already.
Hi yeah I get what you mean. I can’t believe though it’s a difficult thing to increase the resolution in a digital rev counter.. I get it would be better with an analog, but still with a digital it wouldn’t be expensive. Great comment btw please stick around I really appreciate comments like this
G87 looks like a clown car from the front. The m240 has a better front end, if only they had based the front end on the already nice looking m240. Plus 200lbs heavier. Nah... just do a small mod to the f87 and you're in a higher power to ratio. BMW keeps trying so hard to hold the M2 back. Either with detuned engines, crappy interiors, less options, and now making them exactly same weight as the M3 and M4. I saw it person and bought an f87 when I looked at them side by side... could not stand to look at that. No performance is worth that face.
@@petef7323 americans critized it because they suck at designing cars... the Z3 M still is a great car with european design heritage. Look at the Ferrari FF and GTC4 Lusso. Gorgeous well designed cars that are frowned upon in the US. The G87 shares nothing with neither of those cars.
Please BMW, fire your design staff. The giant grills on the M4 are laughable and the blocky square looking grill on the M2 is just as ugly. I’m dying to buy an M car, but I can’t get past these front end designs.

BMW is loosing its soul. G87-M2 is ugly! Long LED screen is a joke. I just can't understand why is is so hard for car manuf. to give us a proper street legal race car. thats all we enthusiast ask for. -Analog dials and switches -Pure race dbl-wishbone suspension -carbon fiber bucket seats, roof, bonnet, and all you can include. -Powerful engine with lightning quick throttle response. -Manual transmission option. -cold air intake -lithium battery -full nice sounding performance exhaust. Is that list so hard to make????

I'm so sorry I sold my M2 waiting for a CLS :`( I guess Porsche Cayman GT4 is my next girl. I'm heart broken with the BMW brand.

The M2 is better hands down for track performance but yeah it’s ugly. X drive really only useful if you drive somewhere with snow and hills.
