Seriously, every other mention I've heard about schedule has said the opposite, that the Jazz have had one of the toughest schedules so far for exactly the list of reasons you provided. There's just simply no way their schedule could be considered easy so far, and now that they beat Portland tonight, they're back on top of the West. They certainly aren't likely to win it all, but they're even more certainly no joke.

    • @deekusucks

Word, they just spent almost 2 weeks in a row touring the Eastern conference (minus one home game against the Lakers), and the teams they've been beating early on are star-studded titans considered to be contenders, or at least were before the season started. They also just beat the Suns and the Blazers again in consecutive games following their road trip. Both of which are top 3 teams in the West at the moment right behind the Jazz themselves.

These plays are really pretty. The coach is doing a good job configuring the offense with good screens, baiting the defense, floor spacing, and timing passes to make the most out of this hodgepodge roster of small shooters and passers. Agreed they are probably going to revert given that they are maximized at this moment. But seems like a unit like this is well positioned to be competitive moving forward given what they can do with the pieces they have.
Also, of note is that Lauri is pretty much the biggest player on the team physically - and that's super unexpected given his previous role. I could see a future where Lauri is matched with a scoring guard for a 1-2 punch. Lots of good candidates here (might be able to swipe a Cam Thomas or Saddiq Bey).

Beasley looking pretty good (27 PTS in last game from bench 7-13 3PM-3PA, averaging now over 3 on 3PM and 43% on 3P%). And that's the thing with Jazz, no need to rely on one guy, others can step in when needed. Also Markkanen can score under 20 pts (vs Nuggets and Clippers) and Jazz will still win. With USG% of under 24 it is not even expected Markkanen will score 30+ pts a game. Even though he did score 38 tonight with 83 FG% and 25 USG%

I disagree with the "easiest schedule" in the sense that they have had more back to backs and overall played 2 more games than anyone else. The defeat against Houston was their 5th game over 7 days or something crazy like that. They are 6-5 on the road; no other team has played 11 away games in their first 18. I expect regression, but it could very well be sustainable, and I the wolves continue to suck, they'll still get a lottery pick.

  • @tocaboutit
    @tocaboutit Рік тому +1

    From ESPN power rankings today:
With Mike Conley suffering a knee injury on Saturday, the Jazz may have to deal with the first extended absence for one of their top eight guys. But they’re 12-6 against what has been a relatively tough schedule. Eleven of their 18 games have come against the other 15 teams that are currently over .500, and they’re 8-3 (best record within the group) in those games after the weekend wins over the Suns and Blazers. The Jazz are also one of four teams that have yet to play a rest-advantage game, and their first of 10 will be Wednesday against the Pistons, who are in Denver the night prior.

Well, the defensive scheme that you're talking about is pretty normal in the NBA. Heat does it last year, Celtics when Stevens was the coach does it, Bucks last year does it. Even the Warriors in the finals does this. And given that the Jazz don't have the personnel to protect the rim, this is a viable defensive scheme for em. Maybe don't use a video against the Hawks and Lakers because they are what like, bottom 3 in 3pt attempts and % this season lol, that's just the right scheme to defend those kind of teams

What is the penalty for a technical foul when the opponent does not have possession?
Two situations that got me confused:
1 - Clippers vs Pistons 17.11. PG goes for a rebound and grabs the net in the process gaining extra hang time and the ball. Tech is called and the Pistons got the ball after the free throw.
2 - Nets vs Bucks 26.10. The Nash ejection. Nets had the ball when the first T is called, and after the Bucks free throws Nets kept possession.

What's beaten Utah is individual players having the games of their season, if not careers.

You had me until the easy schedule comment...
Jazz have played 11 games against teams ABOVE .500´(holding NBA best .727 record at 8-3 in such games). Of their other 7 games, 2 have come against team AT .500. They have played MORE games than ANY other team including more back-to-back and they have had to travel between EVERY back to back. I'm sure they are also negative in rest advantage, even though I dont know this. They have also played 11 road games vs 7 home games. They have played against EVERY other team top 10 team in the West except Kings (twice against Nuggets and Grizzlies, two of the top 4 Vegas favourites), winning all but 2 of them (losses at Mavs and at Nuggets).
If that is an easy schedule, show me a hard one.
For comparisons sake... Bucks have 4 games against above .500 (going 2-2 in those games). Cavs have 7 (at 3-4). Grizzlies 9 (3-6). Nuggets 6 (2-4). Phoenix 7 (4-3). Only Boston at 5-2 and Mavs at 6-3 are close to Jazz in terms of success vs top 16 teams (yes, there are 16 teams above .500).

I am not sold yet, let's see how the season progress as you jumping to make this video instantly when they have 3 losing streak seems fishy. I only agree in that for Jazz to keep proving themselves they need to evolve with the season, and if they just keep doing same things they will not last. But saying is true for all teams in NBA.

In our league with our scoring system Lauri is the #2 PF and averaging 34.0 FTPS while Kyrie is averaging 36.8 FTPS. Am I crazy? I believe in Lauri.

So I did some research, the jazz were only rated the second easiest schedule by 1 website. Most of my research indicates they are middle of the pact, or near the bottom in terms of how easy it will be.
They are tied for the most back to backs, like 5th in facing rested opponents, and the hardest part of their schedule by any website with this data, is the first 3rd of the schedule.
Most of your points where good, but this is backed by no data I've seen. There is no denying that they've had a very difficult schedule this far, mostly playoff caliber teams. They've played more then anyone, the most road games, they are elite at home, good in the clutch, with little rest. I just don't see where this is coming from

The only thing he mentioned that isn't sustainable, is Kelly's shooting (but it's at a low clip anyways), and the defensive lapses. But with good coaching, and more time as an actual unit, that should improve. As for Kelly, maybe his low clip efficiency is a fluke, but some players are struggling with their shot. So some will go up, some will do down.
Realistically they play winning ball, they play mostly together, good movement, they play hard, they have been great at closing games, very well coached so far, and they are having fun. Plus the fact that this defense is this good, with this little time together. It has a lot of room to get better, because they even have Jordan Clarkson playing defense
