This podcast is one of the few places that's helping me hang on to the tattered shards of my faith. Thank you for what you do.

What's helping me with reconstruction is finding a local faith community that actually feeds your soul in a non-authoritarian way. I was lucky to find one that specialized in religious trauma. It's helping a lot. Also interacting with the wider world of other faiths. They're real people too, and you can have some eye opening experiences when discussing how you each approach the same questions. The path is harder to find, but the rewards are many.

These lies are perpetrated even more thoroughly in the fundamentalist churches.

What a liberating message Sheila! Thank you for uncovering the truth about this awful book and articulating it so well! I myself was a victim of this book but so glad for people like you who have the discernment and teaching ability to help others get untangled from these beliefs. Also, this is an underrated UA-cam channel! Lets get Sheila to a million subs y'all!!!🎉🎉🎉

This podcast is so incredibly important! The work you are doing is healing for me and I know others. I took a class at a reformed church with strong ties to MacArthur’s church/seminary. The class was called Divine Womanhood 101 and use Nancy DeMoss’ book “True Womanhood 101” I think it was called. It as a struggle to get through that class!!! They kept saying my struggles were because I was clinging to “feminist beliefs”…. I’m not a feminist but if struggling to accept fear-mongering labels me a “feminist” then so be it. My husband, who really loathed the book more than me, is a feminist too I guess! Anyway, this book you are talking about was also VERY popular at this church. Now I can very clearly see where the spirit of fear and control was coming from. They were constantly talking about “satan getting a foothold” and I’d say paranoid about false teachings in the church. Mind you, false teachings were anything that wasn’t the reformed view, a different view on other secondary or 3rd tier theologies (complementarian, gender roles in marriage or leadership, etc) and certainly not anything that went against the JMac happy pastors. Talk about cultish. One of the new women to the church gifted me your book and what a relief! My faith has been hanging on a thread as I navigating through all the harmful teachings and cultish religiosity. To wrap it up, Thank you. I am grateful for you! Also, I think Rebecca and I would be great friends! I love how you rattle off data and historical facts. I’d totally nerd out with you and eat up all the info!! Butt I’m autistic so that’s my jam lol
    God bless!

I went to a Bible college too where anything that they didn't promulgate was labeled feminist even if it was just common sense! I can relate.

Feminism is demanding justice & human equality in the face of unequal treatment. God made us both in his image, and refers to himself in both male and female ways. Thus, you are a fully realized human being, accept no substitutes or excuses.

41:00 Not even “watching a s*x scene,” but “watching a movie that has a s*x scene in it”.

So if we made movies that were faithful adaptations of the Bible, Christians couldn’t watch them. Because of the scenes that would be IN them (even if due to our personal preferences or sensitivities we opted out of viewing those scenes).
