Its an icredibly dishonest and bad question by the journalist. Trudeau is not only here to be honest with reporters he also is responsible for the countries foreign image. China and Xi in particular dont like to be called dictatorial and commonly put sanctions on countries whoms leaders do so, so if you want exchange of goods and less conflict in the world, for once its more helpfull to only hint towards the truth than to say it out loud. There have been a number of law breaking issues and controversies surrounding the current goverment as well. It's a democracy sure, but not a very free and equal one.

I think people fail to understand what language is, a tool for communicating ideas. Trying to demand that ideas be described in a specific way with specific language is pointless when they same idea can be described with other language. Politicians are scrutinized more than almost anyone else for the specific language that they use, so being deliberate with how you communicate ideas is important. I don’t understand how this is upsetting you.

China has 40k miles of high speed rail and the US and Canada have none, China produces its own chips after all the sanctions and it launched spaceships. New immigrants don’t live in Canada, they get a Canadian citizenship and leave. Wait till American dollar becomes Canadian tide money, things will become very interesting. I have always hated of the idea of going back to China but had to briefly visit my family, I have to say that China has indeed developed during my time in Canada, my hometown has much more economical activities and is WAY cleaner than before.
I can’t say for the rest of the country or freedom though, but now I am more open to the idea that the restrictions on freedom is due to geography instead of political system, from an analytical perspective it is somewhat true and agreed by some American analysts that historically without a top-down authoritarian approach, China always fell apart into separate states due to unequal resource distribution geographically and conflict of interests.
I still like Canada though, very nice people and beautiful country.
