He partook in one of the bloodiest battles in that region. He didn't die though thankfully but I'm sure there were other's that could potentially have been younger that also lied about their age. I find it hard to believe their officer's didn't know their age which is probably why we don't hear about the ages of some of our fallen. Each squadron has a boat troop who specialise in amphibious insertion using boats and diving techniques. Both SAS and SBS have done the same selection since around 2000. The SBS primarily specialise in amphibious operations but they do have similar skills to the SAS and operate on vehicles similarly to the SAS mobility troops.

Absolutely incorrect, SAS normally work in close teams (perhaps 4, or 8), each with specialised knowledge of a particular skill, while having higher than average of knowledge of all the other specialised abilities all the other members. SAS and SEALS can't really be compared directly, they operate under different conditions. A more suitable comparison would be SEALS with SBS, but as far as elite level SBS are very much above SEALS. SBS been invovled with covert mission since second world war, and often forgotted special force, but they like it like that.

Some of the men talked with my pal and told him that he had them in tears, he worked them so hard. It is a real eye opener to what the real soldiers go through, it is exhausting just to watch and scary for the things they are put through.

When he'd recovered and they were fitting him with a prosthetic he was asked if he wanted any special attachments. He asked for one that would let him fire a rifle.
A chap living next door to me was ex army, he'd told me the regiment he'd joined. It was only when I saw a photo that I discovered he'd been with the SAS.

@@labradorlady5537 yes but none can pass the training, the SAS refuse to drop the physical standards (and rightly so there's no justice and certainly no social justice in war) the truth is their is such a thing in humans called sexual dimorphism and it's not sexist to point that out all you have to do is look at the Olympics the slowest male long distance runners or sprinters are on average faster than the fastest women's times long jump, high jump, weightlifting etc are the same. And that's just the physical side, also mentally women's greatest mental strength is they have more stable minded attitudes and compassion and co operation minded approach to things which is great and a real strength for curtain things, however the SAS want coiled springs someone willing and able to kill a child civilian if the mission deems it necessary, and men are more programmable for that sort of thing due to men being more naturally violent on average (due to a young healthy man having eight times the testosterone as necessary at any one point circulating around the blood). However as we all know there are exceptions to every rule and I have no doubt a few of these exceptions will trickle through in time but they will remain exceptions and this is simply because of the BIOLOGICAL differences between male and female humans and not social constructs which yes can be and should be broken down. My wife is a feminist and she agrees with me on this point she also worries about women troops being captured by enemy soldiers, two women were captured along with four men in a supply convoy in Afghanistan, all were rescued a few days after, the men had been beaten pretty badly and kept in a hut, the two women.....let's just say what happened to them was inhumane and leave it at that.

Ollie Ollerton has a great Podcast explaining parts of the selection. In the escape and evasion phase, he actually failed the 1st time and had to do it again on retrying selection, he said you get a full search, holes and all for any thing that can help you cheat. He ended up swallowing some £ in condoms with a few other guys doing it too, giving them a good £80 for food and snacks.
In field he then got rid of the ww2 style clothing they give you and found a civvi bomber jacket and hid with a few guys in a house that was having construction done to it. When it came to going for a shop run, he got to the shop and collected together £80 worth of snacks and soft drinks etc, and went to buy it, the people of the area are supposed to dob you in if they see a selection phase soldier but they really act like a sort of 'resistance' haha so the guy behind the till just winked and carried on ringing up the snacks. Before he left the shop though, a big truck full of the hunter force showed up outside the shop and the soldiers came in looking for food for themselves and as they passed him he greeted them in a bad Welsh accent and left the store before they could have a good look. To his relief, they gave him the look of 'stupid civvies' as he passed. He quick timed it to the house with the construction and when he got there the workers were doing their thing and he knew this truck was going to be coming that way so after dropping off the shopping in the house, he went back outside and with the workers just picked up a shovel and started shovelling some stuff to make it look like he was working. This was when the same truck came passed the house slowly as if looking for any people hiding, Ollerton then just shouts at the truck "you alright boys!" And the truck continues, he could only think to himself that they must have thought, "ah that's that stupid civvie from the shop".
😂 its a great podcast, well worth a listen. Its the Andy Rowe Show with Ollie Ollerton.
