At some points i was a little concerned because on the field he sometimes looked like a thin, stemmy, white collar landlocked kid but as the preseason has gone by i have realised i was wrong

What I've seen from him so far, is the redshirt freshman year Sam Darnold. Last year he showed some habits that made me nervous, but looking back on it further, I think that was a case of him having to carry the whole team too much. I'm very happy.

You can tell how much emphasis Sam has been using the 2 hand rule in the NFL. He’s always got 2 hands on that ball! He just get its! You have a 30 year old mature vet trapped in a 21 year olds body.

With Darnold getting ready to start his third season (if they actually play this season) I couldn't be happier that he's our QB. I really think as we finally build a good O line around him and get him some weapons that he's going to excel as he ages and begins to see things again and again. The great ones seem to have an encyclopedic brain that stores all the things they seen and done and I think he's got that kind of brain. Just wait till he's seen it all, we may really have a great one after all these years.

I can help but have a smile while watching this. You're also absolutely right. A sign of a good QB is when they make 8 yd plays and first down passes look routine. We get so amped for first down passes as Jet fans because we've been subjected to sub par QB play or Sub par offense. Darnold shows poise, intelligence, and growth, especially in such a short time. Got me excited once again.

I remember seeing this video in 2018 and being hopeful, but now the hopes are being dashed.
I think we need your insights into what has happened here. Why would this be falling apart? why would he seem to have these skills then, but not now?
After 2018 there was a coaching change - is that what has changed his trajectory? Sam seems to say that Gase does not give him much room to make changes pre-snap, but it's all very unclear.
we all need to know, maybe Sam especially, whether these are his failures or the failures of those charged with developing his skills and career.
I think this would be a very important piece and your voice would be heard.

His quick release combined with pinpoint accuracy is pretty insane.
His windup is far too lengthy though. He'll get picked apart if he gets hands in his face and has to get rid of the ball quickly
that's where being able to throw on the run comes in handy.
The 1st thing I noticed was how well he sees the field . You can’t teach that stuff . And next year his release will be quicker , especially if he has a wr from last year , whether it’s Robbie or Q or both .

Any chance you'd be breaking down how the Bears defense will be changed by Khalil Mack and how he changes their team as whole? I know you already did one exclusively on Mack, but doing a comparison with the Bears defense puts it in a new light and I'm sure there'd be other things in the team you could find to talk about. I wouldn't necessarily say that. The Jets played three games in ten days, and two of them were on the road. Those are almost impossible circumstances for anyone, let alone a rookie in their first three starts.

The difference was we saw how easy Sam Darnold can read the ENTIRE field, Daniel Jones was literally only made one concept reads on a good bit of his drop backs. That is a drastic difference.
Darnold will probably be elite in 2-3 years. He is the type that remembers schemes, individual player tendencies, and mistakes he made on every play. Once he settles and experience he will be a strong vet QB.
