Emily: wouldn't you say Christmas deserves to be relevant year-round?
Retail workers: NO
I thought the same thing and was looking to see if anyone else commented it.
I worked retail during the Christmas season for the first time last year. Wouldn’t do it again 😅
I haven’t worked retail in years, and that song still gives me Black Friday PTSD tics.

I haven't had a good Christmas in three years. No tree, no gifts, no music. Just work and isolation. The only good thing we had was that it snowed really hard and it was a true sight to see. Seeing your video and your figurine made me sad but mostly happy for you. Love your videos and your work, god bless Emirichu.
Thank you for the sweet comment ! Im so sorry the past three christmases havent been as nice as they should be ): i hope next christmas youll be able to spend time with family or friends (and more snow!!) wishing you all the luck and happiness for this year!! 7:00 The wooden nativity pyramid is a traditional German decoration. Growing up we had a one that was about a foot tall and sat on the dinner table at Christmas. You light the candles and the hot air rising from the candles hits the blades and make the whole thing spin around.
emily spending the last few minutes fanning over the miku figure is so real
You'd think the Miku was the ad and not the Star Rail bit 😂
Celebrating Christmas on the 24th is actually pretty common in Latin American cultures (^^) I'm Mexican and pretty much all of our festivities are for the 24th and the 25th is only really for going to church and to wear off the hangover if you got too drunk last night.
It's also a thing in some European traditions! I'm Polish, and we traditionally had a lot of family over for food and presents on Christmas Eve (Wigilia)
Yep! I’m Puerto Rican and the 25th is pretty much just a rest day after all the festivities of the 24th
Salvadoran here, and same! We always celebrated on the 24th, had pan con pavo, opened presents at midnight, and then the 25th was just for hanging out/church 😁
@@laurimarbaez6314 from where I am from 23th is for friends, 24th is for extended and 25th is for close family.
here in peru, the christmas dinner is at the 24th until the 25th, and if some family could not come over, you go to their houses on the 25th

The gasp of excitement I gave when I heard the beginning of White Night, for the sponsored segment.
That music video is all kinds of great, and I couldn’t help being a little excited.

I actually loved celebrating Christmas in Japan when I was an exchange studenr during high school. Honestly, at first I thought I would be lonely cause I wouldn't spend it with my family. But it turned out really great. First, I was lucky Christmas Eve was on a Sunday. So, no school during the day. Secondly, my host mum said I could invite some friends over and have an okonomiyaki party, which was so fun. After that my host sister made a christmas cake which was so delicious! And lastly, we took a walk an went looking at the christmas light decorations that was put up around the city. It was simple but cozy and I was so happy.
Last year, I actually gave sort of back the nice gesture by inviting a Japanese friend from uni over to celebrate Christmas with my family. She got to experience a very traditional Finnish Christmas Eve with the food, presents and all. We even baked a lot of ginger breads and all so she could get the full Christmas spirit 🥰 She was really happy and we where so glad she liked it.
Thank you for the inclusion of the Miku unboxing. I was freaking out right alongside you; what an absolutely gorgeous figure!
I was not expecting to hear daidus yell in the background while she was unboxing strawberry Miku but it kinda added to the scene
Oh! What timestamp? I went through twice and didn't hear him 😮 (I might've been distracted by Miku's beauty)

christmas in japan is exactly what halloween feels like to me. I get so hype for two whole months and then the day rolls around and of the kids who celebrate very few actually trick-or-treat and all the halloween parties happen on the weekend before so i just invite whoever is available to hang out and eat candy with me.
I'm lucky then. I get around 200 trick or treaters every year. Very busy.
Celebrating Christmas really early and longer that it is with your love of Jollibee fried chicken makes you an honorary Filipino. Congratulations.
Emily getting culture shocked by Japan, while Daidus is just chiilin' with his Chicken XD

Hey, its 2 months late but IMO its NEVER a bad time to talk about Japan and Christmas celebrations! Thanks for making this video and sharing some of the things you did during the holiday season. Japan definitely seems a lot different than the US and UK for the holidays but I think it's neat to see how other cultures celebrate the holiday.

If u ever come visit a Christmas market In Germany definitely go to the market in "seifen", Saxony and the "schlesischer Christkindlmarkt in Görlitz", also in Saxony
Sneaky advert for the one in Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz 😉😂
YES! If you read this, Emily, this is the perfect recommendation!
However if you have only a limited amount of time the Weihnachtsmarkt in Hamburg is always worth it - but if you can find the time Seifen and Görlitz are the perfect experience!
I only know one German Christmas Market, but I'm not gonna doxx myself on UA-cam. 😅
What I can say tho, is that they are one of the few things here I could recommend without a second thought.

Hey Emirichu! I am from Germany and I could already tell from your Christmas Market Videos that this is not a real Christmas market. I mean maybe they interpret them a little different in Japan but in Germany there is much more then just stands with the same food. The Christmas Markets here are way better I could already tell from the videos. There are much more stands with different foods, stands with jewelry, stands with games, stands with hot drinks, Ferris wheels and much more! You should definitely come here in winter and go to the “Kassel Weinachtsmarkt” if you want to visit a real one. I think that is the most christmassy Christmas Market ever here in Germany. There is also a Santa Clause which flies over the market in his sleigh and tells a story. The atmosphere is also much more different. I would be thrilled to see your reaction to a German Christmas market someday. I hope you are doing well!
Don’t forget the roasted chestnuts!
German Christmas Markets are the best and they have so much delicious foods and snacks! Oh and mulled wine too

The whole Christmas on the 24th is actually also how it is here in Germany too and probably where Japan got it from. Difference being that while the main church ceremony and getting the presents happen on the 24th, the 25th is still technically Christmas Day. For us it was a day where you eat a kinda big breakfast with your family and spend the time inside chilling doing nothing. When i was a kid that was the day i got to finally try out the toys i got. The thing is we actually also have a second Christmas Day, literally called "second Christmas Day", which is probably supposed to give you more time in form of a federal holiday. For us it was always 24th with close family, 25th evening with Grandparents Nr.1, then 26th with Grandparents Nr2.
13:12 Now we all know why it took until February for Emily to release her Christmas video. Got repeated distracted by her Hatsune Miku 15th anniversary figurine.

Seeing the bucket of KFC in the thumbnail, I still cannot believe this is actually a thing they do for Christmas in Japan xD
I wanna know the story behind the marketing campaign that started it.
Thinking of it reminds me of how a bacon seller decided to visit a fuckton of medics, start conversations with them and ask them if eggs with bacon could be a good way to start your day due to the energy and protein they provide, and apparently all of them decided to publish that and suggest it to their clients to that at the same time.
Fucking marketing can start cultural traditions in the weirdest ways possible.
@@juanrodriguez9971 Long story short: it's based on the American Thanksgiving/Christmas tradition of eating a turkey dinner for the holidays. Some Japanese marketing guy was like "Well what if we did that.. but with fried chicken? That seems pretty American to me." And so it was. Def a fun little history/culture story to look into

Azabu Juban has a Christmas market annually, from what I remember, it's pretty legit...and really expensive. But we have hot Christmases in Australia so it's not really a great indicator. Though it was definitely better looking than the Coldplay concert you went to lol. Ebisu Gardens is also pretty Christmasy. They usually put up a giant tree at the square there and it's more romantic for couples.
I am laughing because my inner monologue opening this video was what you introed with LMAO
idk if it's just me, but as a latin-american, i grew up also treating christmas eve as the big day. that's when we'd party, eat, and open gifts at midnight. christmas day was just the rest day (esp for those who drank a lot LOL) since most businesses close that day here in america. i never knew how opposite it was here until i grew up and would hear my other american friends mention it. the latinos i knew, though, treated christmas the same way i did. my mother would say it was always celebrated on christmas eve in her home country rather than on the 25th, too. it's interesting how many ppl and countries have different ways of celebrating it.
It's the same where I live (Northern Europe)! The 24th is the actual celebration, 25th is leftover day lol

In Hispanic/Latino cultures we do the Christmas Eve thing, too! Christmas Eve is THE big day, and we open our presents at midnight and spend the day eating food and partying and such, but when we wake up on the 25th it's leftovers and normalcy LOL
What a great excuse to draw some SPY FAMILY xmas shenangians
Biased, nothing. It’s like they tailor-made that Miku just for you!
Also, soggy KFC? You just have been eating at the wrong establishments, my friend. All the ones I’ve eaten at here in WV have always been crispy, whether it’s original recipe or crispy. I won’t dispute that Popeyes’s has great chicken, but KFC takes the gold when it comes to the biscuits. The Popeye’s I ate at in TN all might as well have used sawdust for their biscuits, they were so dry and tasteless.
On this we can agree, though: Christmas is the best holiday and no amount of commercialization can ruin that! TSO and Mannheim Steamroller practically stay in the cd player as soon as Thanksgiving ends, I have a schedule of specific Christmas movies to watch on Christmas Eve (TSO’s The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Nutcracker: the Motion Picture (1986)) and Christmas Day (Muppet Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas concert) on top of others I watch throughout the month, and I’m terrible about taking down all the decorations because I love them so much.
I honestly loved the Yokohama Christmas festival! They have a bunch of stalls and lights, as well as a big christmas tree, and the red brick buildings all around makes it feel very comfy and christmasy. It was also only like ¥300 to enter if you get the app. There was also an outdoor ice skating rink right next to it for only like ¥500 plus rentals which was super fun! I would go again just for the skating honestly, and the market was a huge plus.
Omg wait that thumbnail is beautiful, the artist did an amazing job!!
