    lol thats an interesting one! people swapping parts and screwing something up is a big one as well though. Had one where the guy tried to change his wifi card, dropped a screw with the battery plugged in and shorted out several rails. knocked out the DDR4 controller, burned several capacitors on 2 different rails, and in the end had a remaining short to ground which was diagnosed to be one of the BGA ram chips... lovely.

    Just did this same replacement on my 250 G5. I honestly didn't think the power jack would be the issue but a $10 part was all it took to fix.

    maybe they thought the charge port was loose so they padded the connector with a layer of foil? only for it to foil their plans!

    crazy how some companies don’t even put fans and the laptops anymore what’s crazy is you’ll see some companies even make fake housings for fans 😳

    This is one of those Hp's I mentioned in your other video. The keyboard replacement is a PIA.

    Had the exact same problem with a dell a couple of days ago... Straightened dentist pick is your friend.

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  6 років тому

      For something like the standard dell ~9mm dia plug/socket, yep, that'll work fine, but these one was such a fine wall/slot thickness that titanium-blue tweezer tip was all I could realistically fit in there, unless the picks are about 0.4mm dia ?

      some dells have the same socket as the hp's. pain in the rear to find psu's for. And if you straighten the semi-circular end of the pick, they fit quite nicely.

      Use a sewing needle stuck in a pencil for small probes, I have ground them down for screwdrivers as well in the past.

    first time I have heard you express Louis's sentiment---poor little board---who has done this to you---where did they touch you???? lol, very good sentiment here however

    If my light comes on but the laptop still doesn’t fire up what could that be. My laptop is the same one as the one in the video.

    Easy repair, nice tutorial, sometimes we think that it will be a difficulte problem but in fact it's very easy to fix. Thank you a lot.

    Sir Paul! Will you explain me about SUS voltage i.e +5V_SUS.What is SUS voltage?How it works and why it is there?

    • @dragansavatic
      @dragansavatic 5 років тому

      SUS is for suspend power rails, ones that are present when you plug in AC adapter or battery (in some cases).

    I have a HP 17-x044ds with the Pentium N3710... That this is literally the slowest p.o.s I have ever bought. I could understand why the owner of this probably chucked it against the wall.

    this jack is not the worst, try ASUS power jacks, always break, had the same laptop 3 times in one year, had to build an adapter for the guy not to break it again.

      the tiny picks I have are for pump shaft packing removal. One is 90 degrees, one hooked back, and another like an ice pick.

    Maybe you can help me - having a hard time buying mosfets and transistors - can't find a complete set from anyone

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  6 років тому

      Who are your typical suppliers? Mouser / digikey / Element14 / Farnell ? Depending on the usage of the MOSFET you can typically make some fairly wide ranging substitutions, but there are some parameters that must be adhered to.
      What are you meaning when you talk about a "complete set" ?

    • @donald1056
      @donald1056 6 років тому

      Yes - tried Digikey a few times - they have 1 kit that is missing 1 mosfet - five of the one kind and the 2nd kit is missing 3 different items - 5 each - they won't sell the kits like that - don't know when they will be complete - doesn't make any sense - they said it's the manufacture - not a good case - manufacturer having a hard time getting certain minerals - other way is getting a used motherboard for the parts ???

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  6 років тому

      Still not sure what you mean by a "kit" (or set). Can you give me a couple of product numbers? Usually MOSFETs are just all sold as individual units, per unit (unless there's a 5/10/100 MOQ for the price-break).

    • @donald1056
      @donald1056 6 років тому

      On Digikey they sell the Mosfets in kits - 15 different values - 5 of each value in the kit or 30 values and 10 of each 1 - for 300 they have some kits that vary in values and quantities - get a better price that way - you don't have to go thru 7 + pages of different values of mosfets and select 5 or 10 - a kit/set makes the purchase faster

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  6 років тому

      Ah okay, no idea then. Never really seen those kits around, typically find myself ordering what ever is required on demand, or using "similar" units from my stock.

    It looks like it has the power of a cheap tablet, looking at the weedyness of that heatsink.
    At least it has half a pcb lol.

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  6 років тому

      Shorted MOSFET or cap.

    • @thekaiser4333
      @thekaiser4333 6 років тому

      Ah! The usual suspects. Thanks. Is a short or open in smd caps+mosfets the usual failure mode?
      Very good channel. Subscribed!

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  6 років тому

      Shorted caps are moderately frequent, especially ceramic caps, particularly if they've been physically abused. A do find 0805 10uF ceramics short moderately frequently in terms of repairs, though I am suspecting over-voltage is killing them.
