- Getting to play Tank Park Salute live on The Tonight Show was the highlight of my 1992 US tour. Jay Leno is wielding the oblong cardboard box in which CDs were originally marketed. They made them that shape to fit in the album racks in record stores.

My lovely dad died thirty years ago and this song fits how I remember the times we had together, I still miss him.

In my humble opinion, it's criminal how Billy Bragg continues to be overlooked and not given the praise he really deserves by the main stream British music media. He is one of our best-ever singer/ songwriters with a huge global following who has influenced many, many bands and songwriters. However, he rarely receives the acclaim he should for his talent, influence, and consistent high quality output by the British media. I love The Clash and The Specials, who are constantly waxed lyrically about by British music media, surely Billy Bragg deserves to be placed on the same musical pedestal!

A couple of years I watched Billy at the Sage in Gateshead and I cried my eyes out when he sung this .
I was there last night watching him, he played it and it was the best song of the night
So was I row H , loved it, bloody cold outside the sage. My Girlfriend has really got into BB, which I didn't expect.
One of the greatest musicians/songwriters- ever to exist. His music is timeless and powerful, and u can even learn a thing or 2 from listening to B.B. ❤❤😊 😁 No one else like him. 👍

Although this is a very tender emotionally literate song, one suapects Billy transformed his grief at losing his father into rage, which has powered his politics..

Saw him live on this tour at the Student Environmental Action Coalition conference in Champaign, Illinois. He opened for The BoDeans, another band I was totally unfamiliar with at the time. I went out and bought this album the next day. Still one of my favorite albums today.

The juxtaposition of Billy and Jay is so odd.
1:18 that sounds to me like an ok attempt at a Yorkshire accent, miles away from Dagenham. At least he didn’t attempt a Dick Van Dyke cockney one.

Jay Leo is a horrible person generally, but seeing his laughing face as the still shot for this unbelievably beautiful song is just beyond....
