I spent a night in jail in Boston in 1998 and the officers not only let me smoke but gave me their own cigarettes, but only if I could do more push ups than one of the cops. So yes, you could smoke in there. Good times.

Nia when Robin Williams passed away the bench in Boston Public Garden became a huge memorial and even today it's a popular place for pictures. What I find most amazing is that Matt and Ben could write such a beautiful and layered script at such a young age. This movie started as a writing assignment for Matt Damon while he was attending Harvard. They both totally deserved their Oscars for Best Original Screenplay

I've been there a few times (Australian) and it was a bench. A beautiful bench, on a simple artificial duck lake. I don't imagine it will stay that way. It's iconic now.

10:17 this monologue about his wife farting is 100% improvised by Williams and Damen's reaction is genuine, no acting. Obviously this goes without saying, but Robin Williams was a legend. This movie is a perfect example of his dramatic and comedic acting prowess.

When Ben's character talks about knocking on Will's door and hoping that he won't be there - it's like him almost giving permission for Will to get out of here and live his potential. Saying that he won't be angry that he left or hold it against him. Almost making it as easy as he can for him by saying you don't even have to say goodbye. Just do it.

I saw this movie when it was first released and countless times since. When I first saw it, I was in my mid-twenties and I'm now in my early-fifties; this movie continues to deliver. It's a masterpiece.
    Sidenote:
Affleck and Damon wrote this movie. I just saw "Air" (in theaters now), which they also wrote and starred in. It was also great. I totally recommend it .

15:21 and 15:37 Those are my most favorite and meaningful moments with someone, just doing something that might seem boring, but it's just the two of you and the conversation. It doesn't have to be anywhere flashy or planned, just sharing a silly day together. I'm glad they showed those contextual and spontaneous moments at the start of their relationship and didn't just breeze past them. It's such a timeless and powerful movie, crazy it's been 26 years.

Incredible, funny, sad, thought provoking movie with amazing dialogue.

This film won an Oscar for adapted screenplay and now you can see why, it can evoke emotions just through words and acting mostly by the late great Robin Williams.

39:14 VERY good call. I never made that connection before, but you're absolutely right. The attempt to put up a brave front before finally crumbling.
The only difference here is that Sean (Robin Williams) did that on purpose. He just drilled down on him until he cracked through all of Will's (Matt Doman) attempts to deflect.
That episode of Fresh Prince is a masterpiece though. I wrote a paper on it in college. And Will Smith and James Avery's performances in that final scene are incredible.

"Do you enjoy the produce section? Well, she and I are going to be KISSING there from now on. So, if you don't want to cry when you see us, you're going to have to hang out in the laundry detergent aisle now, where luckily, no one will be able to smell you for all the boxes of detergent." 🍎Boom... got 'em on the rewrite. 😐

you know the funny thing about that last comment is people today don't remember that pos clunkers used to be reliable even if they were pos cars since they were better quality back then... the posibility of the car not making it across the entire country was not an issue anyone thought about when this movie was released.

I loooove that you aren't against Lambo. Most people villainize him. And to be fair, he did have his interests going into the situation, but you can see he really likes Will and wants what's best for him, he just tried doing it by pushing him.

Yeah I went to one therapist & couldn’t do it, I immediately didn’t trust the therapist & basically just blocked all of her questions after that. That was years ago & I’ll go to a new one eventually but that’s why I cry a lot in this movie, for dual reasons, one robin williams is breaking down similar things to my life (I’m no genius not an orphan but other things are true, for example cocky {smart wise} but scared {23 year old kid} who doesn’t know anything ab the world) although I have been in the Sistine chapel & it smells like normal air, but I’ve never been truly vulnerable with a woman, tried a few times & slept with many women in college but it’s never been pure vulnerability & love. It’s inspiring, {gonna go see about a girl.}) I’m 23 now so I know I don’t know shit, only person I’ve been truly vulnerable with is my parents & that’s bc I trust & know they’ll never tell what I said. It’s hard even with parents, but an orphan or abusive family would make it even harder, everyone has a chance regardless of their circumstances. Very luckily I have great parents.
So no I think anybody with a heart cries or thinks deeply about themselves or others they care about or feels the need for therapy watching this movie

@ 20:29 ...Matt's laughter was genuine because the fart story was ad-libbed.
