Jaceon I'm joking. It's really all about what type of unit you prefer. I personally found Sonya WAAAY more useful than Deen, but that's just my experience.
superiorgamedude hate to be that guy but not really. Deen being able to become a dreadfighter alone makes him better than Sonya. Add in his better bases and closer promotion level and Deen is better than Sonya in every way
There is no Good or Bad choices in this Choosing Sonya you'll get 1 of many mages in Celica's team Choosing Deen you'll get 1 of many mercenaries in Celica's team
Alm is pretty much not vary in the game after picking Royal Sword that'll be his only weapons until he get Falchion Royal Sword is pretty OP thanks to base stats and skill It give and his Res is abysmal
True, but Celica has an iffy Mage setup on her team (Boey has abysmal speed and Nomah in Chap 4 is absolutely horrific) so Sonya helps fill in her team better. Sonya comes in powerful and has a lot of good spells to back it up. However, if you've been focusing on mages, Mae may have outpaced her, but she's still above Boey and will trash Nomah. Deen is good, but he isn't a straight upgrade, he's just an alternate type of Merc (Saber is a defensive Merc, Deen a fragile offensive Merc, Kamui an all rounder) and Jesse has insane potential due to his Growths so he will inevitably end up stronger than the other three.
As a quick addition to your analysis, Ghast: Sonya sadly lost some of her best Spells (Seraphim and Sagittae) from Gaiden, meaning she's lost a lot of the versatility (Sagittae as a hard-hitting spell, and Seraphim as anti-Terror). As for the Boey comparison you made, by having the chance to learn Sagittae later, Boey can spike a bit higher than Sonya in terms of potential damage because of how powerful Sagittae is, which will give him the edge when it comes to enemies they can't double. Mae's buffing also knocks Sonya down a bit due to Mae having Aura, which gives her a higher damage spell in comparison. On the upside for Sonya, she has amazing support potential thanks to her learning Entrap and Recover, and can travel great distances thanks to Rewarp, allowing her to be anywhere she's most needed. She's also got access to the Steel Shield, which is pretty rare on Celica's route, which can aid with a lot of defensive issues a lot of Celica's units have (and she doesn't drop it, meaning that she needs to be spared to keep it). She's also Genny's only support, which helps her a good deal. Deen definitely benefits a lot from his buffed remake self, since he's now pretty much the more-or-less most balanced Merc-line unit. He's also got a support with Jesse, which helps both of them (since Jesse is definitely one of the better Mercs in Celica's route, and Deen could always use support bonuses. Being a Dread Fighter also makes him very useful, since a lot of Celica's foes are magic users. Genny also doesn't NEED Sonya's support bonus, as she gets four from the other Novis units. For the downside parts, he's also much less versatile than Sonya (she can heal, damage, and act supportively upon promotion; Deen can only really fight), and while he's great at fighting magic units, the bulkier and more-common-late-game Fiends will make it hard for Deen to puncture their defenses. His Brave Sword also drops as an enemy, unlike Sonya's Steel Shield, making him slightly more expendable. His Brave Sword can also go to any Sword unit, which means that his role can be fulfilled by a lot of others, including Sonya upon promotion. Anyway, these are just extra bits I wanted to add, hope they help in terms of consideration. P.S. I went Deen, both in Gaiden and Echoes. Just so everyone knows where I stand on this matter, personally.
I went with Sonya purely because adaptive damage is far superior to pure physical, and in Echoes, enemies have defence out the ass but lacklustre res. As such, I decided it would be better to have a unit with support skills, good stats, healing, magic and the ability to use Excalibur and the Brave Sword plus Rewarp.
You already have 3-4 possible braver sword memes on Celica's side before Deen. I opted for the one and only entrap in the game with excaliber on the side.
I'm assuming you have to craft these Brave Swords...I didn't pay attention to crafting stuff, so meh. Also, Genny is just Invoke bot McPhysic, so I prefer Jesse getting even more support bonuses with Deen.
No. Killing Deen gives you his brave sword. Killing the FE2 Deen lookalike north of the mountain village drops a shadow sword, which should be turned into another brave sword for only 50 silver coins, which you will have 500-600 from each army by the time you finish the story. You'll find a silver sword that can be turned into a 3rd brave sword in a certain forest later on. If you're not paying attention to forging, well that's not any character's fault. Again, you have 3-4 dread fighters already on Celica's side, and Saber can possibly match Deen's speed, and totally beat Deen's atk (Saber starts with 10 atk as a lvl1 merc. Deen has 13 atk as a lvl5 myrmidon)
I went south thinking it would let me recruit Sonya, didn't realize my mistake until she died...oh well Deen ended up one shotting his first 50 fights so I'll take it
Sonya is probably the best wielder of the Ladyblade behind Celica, since she actually has skill. A fully forged one would have 20 Mt on females, and it gets a skill that hits twice vs. resistance.
Yeah Sonya is super fun to play with. Having the Swords, Shields and Rings as Equipment Options give the priestess gameplay flexibitlynot to mention the potential trade strats with Silver/Steel Shields, Mage Rings, and Ladyblades between Mae, Sonya and Celica. Still, it gets pretty impossible to get your priestess to double the 20ish speed enemies late game, or to do more than chip damage to those Dreadfighters but hey, a big part of Sonya is the fun.
I chose Sonya cause screw dealing with all those witches. Also I was delightfully surprised when she had a direct connection to Jeddah, which automatically makes her more relevant to the story.
dont forget one important thing: dread fighter can be promoted to villagers. so if you feel you are already set with Saber and Kamui you can easily make Deen whatever you like. I made Deen a Cavalier and man I cant see that throwing spear voctory pose enough times :)
I didn't use Jesse in normal mode much since he was lagging behind and my current team was doing just fine. But I did decide to use him in my hard mode playthough for the extra dreadfighter. He really is a great unit once he gets going.
I was originally gonna go with Sonya in my first playthrough and so when I got to the part when you fight Deen/Sonya, I done goofed and fought Sonya. In the end, I accidentally recruited Deen but he was amazing so it was worth it. No regrets 😂
While statistically, Dean is a better unit I still chose Sonya just because she learns entrap. While you probably won't be able to get her to level 10 as a priestess during the main story entrap is super useful for the post game maps. It's hilarious entrapping cantors and then ganging up on them.
Sometimes I'm amazed by how remarkably different my experiences with Fire Emblem games are from other people's. For example, Mae is my single best unit. Her attack stat is higher than every other single stat on any unit excluding HP, and her speed is already at 20 so I just stick a steel shield on her, and suddenly she's the most well-rounded unit I have. That said, I still went with Sonya because there are just too damn many Mercs on Celica's side. I might have gone for Deen had I not already made Atlas into a Merc as well.
Deen is pretty great and hella underrated (especially in Gaiden). Great attack, speed, 7 mov and somewhat of a res tank? That's pretty great if you ask me.
i made the mistakes of 1.Using literally every mercenary given to me 2. turning Atlas into a mercenary 3. picking Deen to get. Half my team is made of dread fighters and noone has missed a critical since 1995
i haven't even picked yet but i would go with sonya, having jesse, saber, kamui and possibly atlas on celicas route you have plenty of mercs to choose from and due to different stat balancing sonya only ends up competing with mae and IMO having another mae sounds amazing rather than another physical unit that will likely be outperformed by saber
Went for Sonya first time, as I has two mages and three mercenaries. No regrets, as she gained Resistance a few times and generally stayed awesome. Going for Deen this time, skewing the balance a bit more. I doubt I'll regret anything, seeing as he's got good growths.
I'm pretty sure I picked Sonya just because I didn't want to fight anymore mages/witches, but also, as other people have noted, it probably should've at least been mentioned that Sonya has lore relevance, and also that she's Genny's only support. Deen is basically a non-factor as a character.
Ok, i think most people would pick Sonya because A, she is more involved in he story, being the daughter of the evil priest Jedah and sister of the witches Marla and Hestia, so her enemy was Celica’s enemy, B, she is the only unit with support conversations with Genny, while Jesse have two with Deen amd Saber, and C, she is a more charismatic person then him.
Very interesting! You're right that both characters have a lot of potential and there's no right or wrong choice as they are great. For my first playthrough, I will be choosing Sonya. Plus she's the only character to have support conversation with Genny.
Deen if you want his amazing weapon. Sonya if you want another magic unit. I say deen is more useful though because he is easier to level up and can abuse the villager premote
I feel like it would've been beneficial to mention who they support with. I picked Sonya because lol Excalibur but also because she boosted Genny's hit rate, which I needed sometimes. Alternatively, Deen would compliment Jesse and Saber well because they all share seven move and Saber and Deen both support Jesse.
I picked Deen for my first playthrough cause Han Solo voice and I wanted to try something different than Gaiden Let's plays that used Sonya all the time so I knew years ago what to expect from her.
the choice in Gaiden was super stratified in Deen's favor. Sonya had a good spell list sure, but Deen was the better option against both Terrors and other DFs anyways. now in SoV it's even more one-sided. How much ketamine did IntSys digest prior to balancing Deen vs Sonya. Let's just take like the one good thing she has going for her and buff up Deen even more. Considering how tanky Celica route units are, Sonya's spell list is actually pretty garbage, since even with crits she's hardly orkoing act 4 terrors. With the speed ring she doubles the higher speed tier in Celica route, but doing any notable damage to Dread Fighter's is a dream for her. Meanwhile Deen can potentially double those same enemies, can also potentially learn Roundhouse which means huge damage nukes and potential OHKOs against Bonewalkers and Fiends, the two scariest enemies in Celica route. in what world is this considered a difficult choice
i hope you can make a video about wich class is good for Atlas, i promoted him to archer, because he has a lot of atk and Leon is the only archer of the Celica´s route up to act 3
I just wanted Deen so everyone can crit everything and nothing will ever live to see the light of day ever again with my army of Alm, Celica, and 8 Dread Fighters
Thanks for all the work you put into your content Ghast! Choosing between Deen or Sonya was tough. Going in I knew Sonya had some story relevance, but I didn't expect both of them to be pretty good units. I ended up choosing Sonya because i'm loving Gaiden's story so far.
In my years of playing FE, I have found that you only really need two or three good mages, and you'll need more solid fighters. So, I'm going Deen, but maybe that's just my tactics.
I went sonya because I wanted more mages. Then I found out she had story stuff. So I'm glad I chose her for my first play through. Means that next time I can kill her and not worry about missing out on story elements.
I accidentally deleted my 27 hour save file.... I was about to finish ACTO THREE... I was so fucking pissed until I fell in love with the game again... Jesus this game has magical powers...
The main problem I have with the two is that they are on Celica's route and I already have enough mercs and mages. I love Celica's units, but the lack of diversity does suck a little bit.
You forgot that Sonya is the only mage in the game to have the Entrap spell, which can be used to pull out enemies such as Cantors. Which can help at dealing with them quickly and stop them from spawning in whatever kinds of monsters they summon.
Heather Fincham Weird. I think it's stupid that people could change the difficulty in Fates. It was the most useless feature the game had. Especially since the changes were locked to one direction. Sure, someone having trouble with one part could crank it back to make things slightly easier, but someone who used the lower difficulty to get accustomed to the game play, who then wants more of a challenge, has to start all over. U know this was done for Street Pass bragging rights and all, but it would have been just as easy to lock out displaying difficulty after it has been changed. (That and such data was plenty easy to hack anyway.)
It's also worth to note that Sonya is the only support for Genny. Deen can support with Jesse who would otherwise only be able to support with Saber. So, if you really are in a bind and have an equal amount of merc/mage in the army (and are not just trying to cheese the game by making use of as many dread fighters as possible, because you actually like to challenge yourself) this could be an important factor to consider. Sonya also has more story relevance and gets several unique conversations towards the end of Celica's route in Act 4. So, it might even be a good idea to choose her for your first playthrough if you don't know the story and want the most amount of context (Deen is completely irrelevant to the plot, he just looks cool and that's about it). EDIT: Brave sword drops if you fight Deen, so no matter who you pick you get the brave sword (so, if you forged the dark sword for 50 silver into a brave sword you would have two on this route) The steel shield does not drop when you fight Sonya, and it's a really good shield to have (skill gives +5 defense on top of the +5 it passively gives, at the cost of 2 speed) EDIT: Sonya gets Entrap and Rewarp, the former being generally more useful. Rewarp is more of a tool to get around the map and circumvent the 4 mov. You can leave sonya in the very back, have one of the whitewings get into a favorable position and rewarp to that unit. It's range is dependent on other units, but you can't do an action after warping in. Entrap is amazing... it takes an enemy and grabs them towards you. Don't like that cantor? Entrap. Kill with everyone around Sonya. Is the boss a pain in the ***? Entrap. Kill. (I haven't gotten this spell yet, so it may or may not be that good depending on it's accuracy, but the utility speaks for itself). EDIT: Holy crap, 70 hit entrap... but with a range modifier of 1- (str/4). So, a typical Sonya would have maybe around 20-25 str by the time she gets the spell. So, 1-6 would be somewhat decent? Eh, I don't how well this will work in practice but maybe it could save some headaches. At least it's balanced in a way that is workable.
but celicas route also has eough mages already, boey celica mae optionally kliff faye and atlas and nomah. plus she while she does get excalibur she doesnt get seraphim which by endgame is far better of a spell.
Sonya is also a redundant class in a game where having terrain bonuses (like Dreadfighters) are helpful, as he game is jampacked with Swamps where moving 3 spaces in it is a Godsend.
Having Sonya you'll get 1 of many mages in Celica Team Mae,Boey and Celica herself is magic user and Genny is a good terrors wipe after promoting not to mention Nomah who will joins as LV.7 Sage and side note Atlas can be many class of your choice
Mae and Boey can be very easily rendered shitty by a small amount of bad RNG when it comes to their levels. Nomah doesn't really count because he's just a straight up bad unit with bad growths. Sonya is a great back-up mage if you haven't invested in Mae/Boey, or if they didn't turn out good, whereas you most likely would have used Saber and Kamui, and maybe even Jesse to invest in a fourth Myrmidon/Dread Fighter.
One other thing to note, if you like Jenny and want to see development out of her, you want Sonya. Sonya is Genny's only support, while Deen supports Jesse, someone who already has a support (with Saber). Sonya "balances out" the support conversations a bit more basically.
I picked Sonya because she's another recover source and my boey just couldn't get to work. Was pleased when I was suprised that she learns entrap AND she was relevant to the story. I also like Sonya/Genny support more then the Deen/Jesse support. And her body. Never forget the body.
I chose Sonya because I love magic units and her role in the story as Jedahs kid. And by the time I had to pick my Kamui was already a dread fighter with a blessed sword and my best unit on Celicas side by far while Mae was OK but Boey just wasn't doing it so I picked Sonya to pick up his slack
I picked Sonya cuz I already had like 4 mercenary units, I made Atlas A mercenary and I kinda fudged up on that end. Plus that brave sword Deen had looked tempting and I didn't want to deal with witches. :I
I chose Sonya. She does what I tell her. Like legit sometimes I depend on her to and she comes through with Crits when I need it. She loves me. The power of love!!!!
Spoilers: On a serious note I want to know if the final level of the game has different dialogue or different enemies based on who you choose between Sonya and Deen. I chose Sonya on my playthough and encountered her two sisters she had mentioned in supports on the final level. They both talk about 'why did Sonya get to live' in their dialogue, but I wonder if they say something different if Sonya had died and you recruited Deen instead.
I just got the game recently and picked Sonia. I may pick Deen next time. I usually don't go for prepromoted units because they make the game too easy and boring for me, but this game is being very difficult for me and I don't think it would make as large as a difference as other fire emblem games for me. I heard Kliff and Sonia got nerfed in the remake. Mine are turning out as godlike currently and I have to pull them back just to make sure my weaker units get experience. Just how broken were they in Gaiden?
@@goodperson656 Yea but most of the time I just give the Brave sword to Saber because he is that awesome making Deen kind of unless without. Sonya is way better than Deen as she has higher growth rates and is a way better character than Deen even though she only has one support and that with Genny.
@@royalhistorian5109 Deen only has one support too. And having an extra dread fighter in this game is never a bad thing, with all the magic enemies in the end
@@royalhistorian5109 Why does it matter how long they have been around for? You can gain get infinite exp/Support with any unit in this game by grinding the dungeons... I'm still choosing Deen every playthrough
Deen is better, no competition, especially come chapter 4 where your 4 move units will be basically unredeemable in all of the swamps while your Whitewings and Dread Fighters zoom through the swamp getting on top of the cantors in a number of turns where as even if you choose Deen you are likely to be completely ignoring Boey and other mages by chapter 4 if you haven't outright benched them since their move is unsalvagable at that point in the game moving 2 spaces through the swamps even with boots vs the Dread Fighters 3 move through swamp/4 move if you gave them boots. They'll be covering much more ground much faster than your Mages. However if you are confident in your gameplay Sonia is the better character, Deen is a dull and boring edgelord who isn't connected to the overarching plot with shaky voice acting sounding like Squidward at times especially compared to Sonia who has much more plot importance and is an overall much more interesting character. If you don't want to use either use Sonia since you'll get Deen's Brave Sword 1 map earlier is much more useful than Sonia's shield so just pop that on Saber and proceed to stomp Greith's Citadel nigh single handedly.
By the time I got there on my first playthrough (hard mode of course), I had 4 dread fighters. Saber was capable of doubling the enemy dread fighter(s) on that map. I had the whitewings fly north and distract the cantor's fodder with falcon knight + blessed lance memes (though I was mostly feeding kills to palla who was still a pegasus knight at the time in an attempt to salvage her since she was behind. Not as bad as Tsubaki from Fates I guess, but eh...)
Late but I went Sonya because I already had 2 dread fighters and was close to getting a 3rd. And most importantly I checked both maps before fighting and that made my decision that much easier. I was absolutely not dealing all those witches in Sonya's map, fuck that. Also on a side note have always been fond of mages in FE anyway. Plus genny gets support bonuses and a convo that was pretty endearing. Will grab deen on another playthrough.
Sonya has Excalibur, and entrap. The ONLY unit in game that learns entrap. Deen is yet ANOTHER merc. You have Saber, Kamui, and Jesse, already with Atlas possibly being your 4th if you don't opt to make him a killer bow-carrier.
at the same time remember that dreadfighter is the best class in the game, he has better stats, the brave sword is an amazing weapon to get your hands on early (while excalibur isnt even all that much of a wow factor for a unit, its like horses in genealogy; half the cast has it) and mages flood the endgame.
You get brave sword from killing Deen. Also, the guy who ironically looks like FE2 deen north of the mountain village is carrying a shadow sword, which can be changed into another brave sword for 50 silver coins. Again, Sonya is the only unit that learns entrap. I'd rather have the unique spell somewhere in the arsenal.
unique doesnt mean great, yeah pulling a guy towards you sounds great but its incredibly resource and time draining, you'll have to heal up over and over again and you get no experience for spending 20 real minutes cearing a map like this when you can just shoot people with leon or send est at them. and even then most bosses are cantors in celicas route and it doesnt work on them so why bother. on top of that deen is objectivly better because hes a myrmidon, which means he can turn into the best class in the game eventually being bow knight, a class sonya cant be because she's a woman (misogynistic undertones not intended) meaning deen can even see great use in part 6 due to his good growths and access to bow knight while sonya can kinda just fuck off cause theres no way your using a mage without access to either physic or seraphim in part 6, even if they have the entirely chance reliant ( as well as overrated in echoes) excalibur.
Bladehero I didn't imply that. I implied mages have more differences between them than dread fighters. Sonya is the only one that learns entrap at all, learns excalibur along with Celica, and Boey (though Boey doesn't learn it until lvl18 mage, is statistically inferior in every meaningful way, and doesn't have the option of wielding a Ladyblade, while Celica has her personal weapon). Saber can easily pass Deen's atk by the time he hits lvl5 myrmidon, and has a chance at matching his speed. Deen just doesn't have any other unique quirks besides looking cool, and maybe being a a bit faster than your other mercs. All of your other mercs can loop that class line post game for growths anyway. Deen isn't unique. Sonya at least is.
Reasons to pick Sonya 1. Gorgeous 2. Mage army is main army 3. Smart 3. Genny support 4. Brave sword AND steel sheild 5. Rewarp 6. Badass 7. Victory pose 8. Legs 9. That outfit tho 10. Sonya
Not that I have Echoes but I’m more familiar with Sonya because I saw her in the current Hall of Forms in FEH right before seeing walkthroughs of Echoes. I thought she was going to be a straight up villain because in that Hall of Forms, she’s hanging out with Fallen Units from Echoes.
I prefer Sonya because I like mages also i bench boey because mae exists also mae fits my fast but frail on the physical composition another benefit of sonya is she has 1-3 deen wished he had that and i find myself nuking the mercs also give me that brave sword ill put it on saber also deen has bad design he is too edgy also his map is easy to cheese with half your team being ranged units also excalibur op
Kind of interested how you didn't include recruitment chapters as a decision for choosing them. Deen is much easier since LOL witch rng in Sonya's group compared to mass wall of mercenaries that slowly walk up to you. When makes the strategy of killing Deen much easier unless you have super performing Archers to snipe out the witches... Or grinded one of your mercenaries to Dread Fighters to tank magic. Since for Deen, 2 envokes from Genny can slow down the mercenaries enough to nuke with magic.
I chose Sonya, both for Story and because for some reason Saber just went nuts on level up stats so I had a ridiculously over-powered Myrmidon already (way stronger than Deen despite being 3 levels lower), and Boey just wasn't cutting it so Sonya was a good replacement for him.
I chose Sonya because I wanted Genny to actually have a support convo
Hey, I don't blame you. It's a pretty good support.
It’s one of the reasons why I chose Sonya in my first file. Another reason I chose her is because she has relevance to the main story
Sonya because otherwise Genny does not have a support with anyone and because she's one of the best mages in the game.
Hawelo92 Sonya's actually a pretty bad unit while Deen is a really good unit
Jaceon Well, you're wrong.
superiorgamedude tell me why I'm wrong then
Jaceon I'm joking. It's really all about what type of unit you prefer. I personally found Sonya WAAAY more useful than Deen, but that's just my experience.
superiorgamedude hate to be that guy but not really. Deen being able to become a dreadfighter alone makes him better than Sonya. Add in his better bases and closer promotion level and Deen is better than Sonya in every way
There is no Good or Bad choices in this
Choosing Sonya you'll get 1 of many mages in Celica's team
Choosing Deen you'll get 1 of many mercenaries in Celica's team
to be fair, in celicas route, you can never have too many dread fighters
It's sad that Alm team never get any sword user. (not counting villagers because you aren't force to make one of them a mercenery)
TosonBloniak But isn't Alm a sword user?
Alm is pretty much not vary in the game
after picking Royal Sword that'll be his only weapons until he get Falchion
Royal Sword is pretty OP thanks to base stats and skill It give

Louis Weisberg lies
He's not lying. Sonya is the daughter of Jedah... you know... one of the major bad guys...
Anti Aeternum thanks for the spoiler
It's been a week (or, rather, 20 years), spoilers are going to happen, deal with it.
I did try to avoid spoilers by saying "story reasons"
As a quick addition to your analysis, Ghast:
Sonya sadly lost some of her best Spells (Seraphim and Sagittae) from Gaiden, meaning she's lost a lot of the versatility (Sagittae as a hard-hitting spell, and Seraphim as anti-Terror).

The actual struggle between picking these two:
Entrap Memes v Brave Sword memes
You already have 3-4 possible braver sword memes on Celica's side before Deen. I opted for the one and only entrap in the game with excaliber on the side.
omghegotagun Sonya is also the only one that can support with Genny, who has no supports if you choose Deen.
but you get brave sword if you kill edge lord so you can have both memes.
I went south thinking it would let me recruit Sonya, didn't realize my mistake until she died...oh well Deen ended up one shotting his first 50 fights so I'll take it
That's exactly what I did!
Hunter Patton Same...
I also thought that. Went "Wait a second" when I noticed no one could talk to her.
SAME dude lmao
I actually listened to Jesse so I figured what I needed to do, so I got her easily.
Give Sonya the Mage ring, and she becomes teleporting, long-range artillery.
Everybody here is mentioning boobs and plot, but I chose Sonya just so I could give Genny a support. More Genny is always good after all.
Thanks, you truly are a good perso
That’s one of the reasons I chose Sonya. She also has relations to the story.
It should also be noted that some might go for Sonya, since Mercenaries are so much easier to handle than an entire map of witches.
did you invest in leon? cause i did and i just let him clean up the map
I did, but that doesn't change the fact that Witch AI is still incredibly unpredictable. :V
they arent unpredictable, just go into their range with a rescue staff and bow knight. even then they arent that strong. sonya is more fo a joke
You have Genny. You have Invoke. Enemies will always attack the weakest. Against mages the best
bruh they are so easy to kill lmao just use leon if you did use him
Sonya solely because of her supports with Genny.
"Well, you remind me of my mother."
"Okay, NOW I'm offended!"
Sonya's hot and actually has a character, so her
TheAwkwardLink dang
TheAwkwardLink she ain't an edgelord tho 0/10
NoCoffeeNoLife only reason I need, say no more.
TheRedScizor no edgelord
TheAwkwardLink and Deen doesn't have a character? LOL
I picked Sonya because killing Deen gets you a Brave Sword. Also I really like her design, sex appeal aside.
Recruiting Deen gets you a brave sword as well, as he carries it when he joins you
Defeating Deen give you a Brave Sword which you can use Immediately in Grieth Battle
athena 57 But defeating Sonya doesn't give you the steel shield :/
Steel Shield sucks anyway, and you can get plenty of steel shield in this game.
I gave Delthea a Ladyblade because having 66 Str is incredible in Echoes
Deen to add to my army of 7 move brave sword crit machines
you get the brave sword if you kill deen too
Jeremiah peters true, but Sonya can't use it and be a seven move crit machine
Wheelie Cool 1 sonya can use the brave sword after reclass
raphael weber she won't keep up with the dread fighters while deen will
Sonya may not use it, but there is no shortage of merc's on celica's team who can.
harder choice then nohr/hoshido
gabe 234 it actually is, which is fun lol
there are two big reasons to choose Sonya.
ImperialAggron
like originality
ImperialAggron ... it better not be cause of her boobs
lisa semarron two BIG reasons
ImperialAggron Genny support and Brave sword
ImperialAggron ...
Yay, another GUIDEn
Eh? Ehh??
I'll show myself out...
Vladmir Poot Oh BOeY, we're getting into more puns.
Scazura Byakuya Leave

João Camargos These jokes are getting pretty Grey.
StupidArtOnline Tobin in a situation like this...
Jesse's very slept on. Really good base rating and potential. He carried my LTC run for that 500 turn badge almost as much as Saber.
MasonEliwood Poor Jesse, everyone hates him.
Jesse is such a good unit - but how did you find the time to promote him in an LTC run? Did you figure you had enough time?
His base total wasn't far from Saber's at the time, so I thought "Oh shit he'd be good"
Ah right, I see. I forgot that your units would usually have a lower rating in an LTC run.
I didn't use Jesse in normal mode much since he was lagging behind and my current team was doing just fine. But I did decide to use him in my hard mode playthough for the extra dreadfighter. He really is a great unit once he gets going.
I just choose Sonya... honestly I just like mages and I needed another good mage and priestess
Picked Sonya because I felt like I had too many sword-wielding units, but nobody will believe me. She has the boobers.
I was originally gonna go with Sonya in my first playthrough and so when I got to the part when you fight Deen/Sonya, I done goofed and fought Sonya. In the end, I accidentally recruited Deen but he was amazing so it was worth it. No regrets 😂
You made the right choice. Deen is an amazing unit
While statistically, Dean is a better unit I still chose Sonya just because she learns entrap. While you probably won't be able to get her to level 10 as a priestess during the main story entrap is super useful for the post game maps. It's hilarious entrapping cantors and then ganging up on them.
Glad I caught this just as I was starting the desert map. I had no idea that you had to fight the other unit in order to recruit the other.
Picked Dean because he looks cool.
Dark Rebellion yeah but Sonya's chest looks nice :^)
You guys do know you can get that brave sword from killing him too right? Brave sword and Sonya is a win win for me.
Jonathan Irizarry Dread Fighter > Some Mage.
Celica's side is so easy that it really doesn't matter, and I'm all for more healers, myself
Dark Rebellion lol i wanted deen but thought going north was how to get him
Since Celica's got enough of both classes, it really just came down to who I liked more for me. Deen's really boring so I went with Sonya.
Deen for me.
What? I'm biased toward mercs.
Gaiden's Deen got an abysmal Growth Rates
and Gaiden's Sonya gain access to Seraphim and Sagittae
Seconded. Deen is really awesome both in Gaiden and SoV.
Shaginus He still has amazing bases, is part of the mercenary line, has 7 mov uppon promotion, and on top of everything, a Polnareff hairstyle.
I go for deen because of the fact he can loop back to villager and be any class you need
i made the mistakes of
1.Using literally every mercenary given to me
2. turning Atlas into a mercenary
3. picking Deen to get.
Half my team is made of dread fighters and noone has missed a critical since 1995
I don't see that as a mistake because dread fighters are so fricking great
Atlas archer is the best
I pretty sure if there was a "canon choice" it'd be Sonya because of her relevance to the main story.
The attitude of Sonya fans made me pick Deen.
Ezra Lancaster ikr they act like Sonya is the best mage ever when Delthea exceeds her by far gotta take my boi Deen with me
i haven't even picked yet but i would go with sonya, having jesse, saber, kamui and possibly atlas on celicas route you have plenty of mercs to choose from and due to different stat balancing sonya only ends up competing with mae and IMO having another mae sounds amazing rather than another physical unit that will likely be outperformed by saber
I picked Deen, best decision I ever made he barely even died and he was on Dread Fighter Saber’s levels of good.
Deen is the man, plus you fight a lot of mages and he's going to be dealing with all of them as a Dread Fighter.
Went for Sonya first time, as I has two mages and three mercenaries. No regrets, as she gained Resistance a few times and generally stayed awesome.
Going for Deen this time, skewing the balance a bit more. I doubt I'll regret anything, seeing as he's got good growths.
The best part of deen is reclassing into mage and seeing him throw his staff
I picked Deen.
He slaughters the end game.
He slaughtered the whole game for me. Even thabes labyrinth
I'm pretty sure I picked Sonya just because I didn't want to fight anymore mages/witches, but also, as other people have noted, it probably should've at least been mentioned that Sonya has lore relevance, and also that she's Genny's only support. Deen is basically a non-factor as a character.
Sisyphe I literally picked Deen because of his character
Samsunganer Same. Deen doesn't get enough love from the fandom :'(
Ok, i think most people would pick Sonya because A, she is more involved in he story, being the daughter of the evil priest Jedah and sister of the witches Marla and Hestia, so her enemy was Celica’s enemy, B, she is the only unit with support conversations with Genny, while Jesse have two with Deen amd Saber, and C, she is a more charismatic person then him.
Very interesting! You're right that both characters have a lot of potential and there's no right or wrong choice as they are great. For my first playthrough, I will be choosing Sonya. Plus she's the only character to have support conversation with Genny.
I'm choosing Sonya just so I can get a brave sword for one of my dread fighters
Is this the only Fire emblem game where the choice between two characters is actually difficult?
I can't think of one.
Deen if you want his amazing weapon. Sonya if you want another magic unit. I say deen is more useful though because he is easier to level up and can abuse the villager premote
Infernofire deen drops brave sword if he dies lol
Boots or Shura
I feel like it would've been beneficial to mention who they support with. I picked Sonya because lol Excalibur but also because she boosted Genny's hit rate, which I needed sometimes. Alternatively, Deen would compliment Jesse and Saber well because they all share seven move and Saber and Deen both support Jesse.
I picked Deen for my first playthrough cause Han Solo voice and I wanted to try something different than Gaiden Let's plays that used Sonya all the time so I knew years ago what to expect from her.
Immediately chose Sonya because of her attack stats and how useful she actually is. I already have more than enough sword users on my team.
I just realized that Deen's English Voice Actor voiced Raven from Tales of Vesperia!!!
Good overview of both units. Solid content as usual Ghast.
Why choose Sonya? Because... "Saber, Kamui, Jese, Atlas" at that point you are just fed up with mercenaries...
And I always make tobin a Mercenary as well
Deen is hotter tbh
His confident face in the combat forecast is sexy
Both of them are equally hot in my eyes.
(Also, is your profile pic Nina, or is my eyesight failing me?)
Kind of amazing to learn Sonya has a low defense growth. I must have been super lucky since mine ended up able to tank just about anything.
I recruited Sonya because I had no idea you could recruit who you didn't fight.
I put this video on just to have Ghast talking Echoes while I was doing stuff, and boy looking back at the comments years later is a trip.
YOU ONLY NEED 1 SPEED OVER TO DOUBLE ATTACK IN ECHOES
the choice in Gaiden was super stratified in Deen's favor.
I really needed an elitist approach. Thank you good old Ziggy.
i hope you can make a video about wich class is good for Atlas, i promoted him to archer, because he has a lot of atk and Leon is the only archer of the Celica´s route up to act 3
I just wanted Deen so everyone can crit everything and nothing will ever live to see the light of day ever again with my army of Alm, Celica, and 8 Dread Fighters
ikr. Dread fighters are the best
Endgame Enemy Dread fighters were my nightmare...
5 dread fighter celica team! maybe even more with the villagers pitchforks :)
I want all my units to be dread fighters
late female mage promotion is proof of the patriarchy
Underrated comment
Matthew Greer maybe it's because they have to learn how to use a sword?
S-H-I-T!
BEEEEEEETCHE
In Deens Status did you mentioned Saber and kamui but what about Jessie??
I went with Sonya for 2 reasons: 1. I like to grind 2. I already had too many Mercenaries in Celica's team
I am a simple lesbian. I see Sonya, I click.
I have some questions about Echoes. While playing, are you able to change from hard mode to normal mode and casual mode to classic mode?
NiteZ Comments Sadly, no. Once you set your difficulty, there's no way to change it. It's stupid, but that's how it is.
Heather Fincham Thanks.
I don't know which one of the 2 to choose,Any insight?
EDIT: Brave sword drops if you fight Deen, so no matter who you pick you get the brave sword (so, if you forged the dark sword for 50 silver into a brave sword you would have two on this route)
The steel shield does not drop when you fight Sonya, and it's a really good shield to have (skill gives +5 defense on top of the +5 it passively gives, at the cost of 2 speed)
EDIT: Sonya gets Entrap and Rewarp, the former being generally more useful.
Sonya is the better choice since you already have so many mercs on Celica's route, also having an additional unit who can heal is never a bad thing.
but celicas route also has eough mages already, boey celica mae optionally kliff faye and atlas and nomah. plus she while she does get excalibur she doesnt get seraphim which by endgame is far better of a spell.
you know what else has a lot of mages? the enemy. having another mage killer who can still take a bit of physical combat is welcome to me
Sonya is also a redundant class in a game where having terrain bonuses (like Dreadfighters) are helpful, as he game is jampacked with Swamps where moving 3 spaces in it is a Godsend.
Having Sonya you'll get 1 of many mages in Celica Team
Mae,Boey and Celica herself is magic user and Genny is a good terrors wipe after promoting
not to mention Nomah who will joins as LV.7 Sage
and side note Atlas can be many class of your choice
Mae and Boey can be very easily rendered shitty by a small amount of bad RNG when it comes to their levels. Nomah doesn't really count because he's just a straight up bad unit with bad growths. Sonya is a great back-up mage if you haven't invested in Mae/Boey, or if they didn't turn out good, whereas you most likely would have used Saber and Kamui, and maybe even Jesse to invest in a fourth Myrmidon/Dread Fighter.
I chose Deen because he's really cool looking.
I am very shallow when it comes to these things
One other thing to note, if you like Jenny and want to see development out of her, you want Sonya. Sonya is Genny's only support, while Deen supports Jesse, someone who already has a support (with Saber). Sonya "balances out" the support conversations a bit more basically.
I picked Sonya because she's another recover source and my boey just couldn't get to work. Was pleased when I was suprised that she learns entrap AND she was relevant to the story. I also like Sonya/Genny support more then the Deen/Jesse support.
And her body. Never forget the body.
>Saber and Kamui should be nearing their promotion to Dread Fighter
>Looks at my level 11 Mercenary Saber and Kamui.
"about that. . ."
I chose Sonya and gave her a mage ring, and she easily became one of my best units
You can never have too many dread fighters so making atlas a merc wasn't bad
I chose Sonya. She does what I tell her. Like legit sometimes I depend on her to and she comes through with Crits when I need it. She loves me. The power of love!!!!
its obviously deen... seeing as his ability to go an constantly level up and cap every stat easily
Yeah Deen is ultimately more useful and well have much highers rating then Sonya
Sonya
- Sexy art
- better character
- BETTER SUPPORT
- Better boost from support
Spoilers:
On a serious note I want to know if the final level of the game has different dialogue or different enemies based on who you choose between Sonya and Deen.
You choose Sonya, easy pick
Deen is way better and can move 7 spaces
@@goodperson656 Yea but most of the time I just give the Brave sword to Saber because he is that awesome making Deen kind of unless without. Sonya is way better than Deen as she has higher growth rates and is a way better character than Deen even though she only has one support and that with Genny.
@@royalhistorian5109 Deen only has one support too. And having an extra dread fighter in this game is never a bad thing, with all the magic enemies in the end
@@goodperson656 Yea but Saber and Kaumi got that covered and has been around a lot longer.
@@royalhistorian5109 Why does it matter how long they have been around for? You can gain get infinite exp/Support with any unit in this game by grinding the dungeons... I'm still choosing Deen every playthrough
Deen because he's better as a unit and is an edgelord.
Not as bad as Tsubaki from Fates I guess, but eh...)
omghegotagun My Catria would not get a strength growth, and my Est was just a slightly more average Palla. I benched all of them.
Theitsybitsyspider But Palla is a very good unit
all of the Pegasus sisters have always been average for me, but ive kept them around for the triangle attack
Gps1337 Palla has 13 speed... and mine never got any speed growths
i chose sonya bc i like mages better + to get her support with genny
I'd rather have the unique spell somewhere in the arsenal.
unique doesnt mean great, yeah pulling a guy towards you sounds great but its incredibly resource and time draining, you'll have to heal up over and over again and you get no experience for spending 20 real minutes cearing a map like this when you can just shoot people with leon or send est at them. and even then most bosses are cantors in celicas route and it doesnt work on them so why bother. on top of that deen is objectivly better because hes a myrmidon, which means he can turn into the best class in the game eventually being bow knight, a class sonya cant be because she's a woman (misogynistic undertones not intended) meaning deen can even see great use in part 6 due to his good growths and access to bow knight while sonya can kinda just fuck off cause theres no way your using a mage without access to either physic or seraphim in part 6, even if they have the entirely chance reliant ( as well as overrated in echoes) excalibur.
implying there arent plenty of mages on celicas route
Reasons to pick Sonya
1. Gorgeous
2. Mage army is main army
3. Smart
3. Genny support
4. Brave sword AND steel sheild
5. Rewarp
6. Badass
7. Victory pose
8. Legs
9. That outfit tho
I first went after Sonya to kill but got two game overs, so now she's on my team
