    A remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden for the Nintendo 3DS.
    On the continent of Valentia lived a pair of sibling gods, Mila and Duma. These two gods fought a savage war over their conflicting ideals, before finally forging a pact to divide the continent into two. Afterwards, two nations-Rigel and Zofia-were formed around these gods. In the coming millennia, the continent ushered in an age of peace. However, in the current era, war threatens to engulf Valentia once again and only two youths-Alm and Celica-hold the power to stop it.

    Protip: You can play the map normally, just clear every enemy except Slayde and Desaix, then use the "Retreat" command. When you retry the map, Desaix and Slayde will be the only enemies left on the field still. From there you just need to lock Slayde in the supply room when he goes there to heal.

      IMPORTANT NOTICE: most of this strategy is only useful for hard mode, as there are a number of changes in it. For example: in normal mode, Slayde will only move you once you enter his attack range, meaning that he will NOT move when the generic Cavaliers move. Due to a number of A.I. changes, the most widely accepted strategy for getting the Dracoshield in normal mode is this: Get Clair to a point where she will not die to Slayde within 3 rounds of combat, nor kill him (likely between levels 5-10, as she likely already has enough base speed to double Slayde. Her attack growth is low, so she will likely not be able to deal any meaningful damage, and giving her the Leather Shield should give her enough defense to ensure her survival) , then lure him away to the narrow section just below the west or east ramparts. After that, abuse Clair's "Flying Unit" status to move her over the rampart and onto the castle walls. Slayde should just sit there due to not having a target to attack. After that, perform the usual strategy of tinking (not-actually-the-real-) Desaix until he staggers back, drops to his knees, and face-plants.

    If you already unlocked the second skill of the Levin sword, you can speed up the fight against Desaix drastically. Foudroyant doubles the Levin swords Mt (for some reason this isn't mentioned in the description) and will deal 10 damage.

    • @Evilriku13
      @Evilriku13 7 років тому +10

      or use the even faster skill "armor breaker" steel(?) lance with a tank like Gray or Lukas, since that skill did 8(!) damage to him by that, speeding up the progress drastically!

    • @BaniniThePanini
      @BaniniThePanini 7 років тому

      Evilriku13 Really? Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't you need 25 atk on your unit to deal 8 damage?
      Armorcrush triples the mt of the steel lance and adds 4 points of damage.
      Since you can't forge your weapons at this point of the game this would give us 16 additional damage.
      25+16=41
      41-33=8
      Foudroyant on the other hand ignores the users atk stat and deals always 30 points of magical damage. To reach 25 atk on Lukas, Gray, etc. it will need a lot of grinding. But maybe I'm missing an important part in the damage calculation. If this is the case, please let me know.

    • @Evilriku13

  • @maniacallyhappy
    @maniacallyhappy 7 років тому +15

    I love that you're advocating for strategy, my strategy was WAY different and way easier.
    But it focused more on my Sniper Tolbin and Archer Python clearing out the archers. (I was feeding experience to Python since I had just gotten him). Have Tolbin/Python kill snipers to the left, have Clair open the door. Funnel in, have Tolbin/Python kill second set of archers and soldier. Once the path is clear, barricade the center with 3 units, I had Knight Forsyth to the left, knight Lucas down the middle, and Mage Kliff (with leather shield) on the right position. Had Cleric Faye behind Kliff and Sniper Tolbin behind Faye, Had Alm behind Lukas, and Cleric Silque behind Alm, had merc Gray (equiped with lightning sword) behind Forsyth, and Python behind Gray.
    That barricade baits out all of the cavalry units, including Slayde who will focus on Lukas/Forsyth. 1 double attack from merc Gray will put Slayde at 10hp and will automatically have him run back to the bunker to get healed.
    Kill off all the cavalry with your barricade and move up, keeping Lukas/Forsyth in the middle but keeping your knight unit infront of the wall to funnel enemies to attack 1 by 1, it'll bait out the archers to attack him once he's in range, along with Desaix.
    Kill off the peons and Desaix will attack Lukas/Forsyth and will be covered to the sides by 2 walls, use Silque to Warp Python/Lukas (the other knight unit that isn't in front of Lukas) BEHIND Desaix, effectively locking him into place. You can move Paladin Clive infront of the barracks where Slayde will be healing and keep him caged there. After, you can warp Faye between Clive and Python/Forsyth and use her to heal either Clive or your second knight blocking in Desaix, and you can use Silque to heal your knight in front of Desaix, keeping him on life support from Desaix hitting like a truck. I placed Alm to the left of Lukas, and Gray behind him, to the left of Silque and traded Lighting blade between Alm and grey to double attack for elemental damage with Alm and ranged thunderclap with Gray, I had Kliff to the right of Lukas attacking with Excalibur and Python and Tolbin attacking from ranged as sniper and archer.
    That strategy made it super easy and just a waiting game to take down Desaix. It minimized his attack to units who could handle his attacks, minimized not having 4 units get counter attacked chipping away at him, didn't have to have any units hold on to food, locked him into position, didn't have to worry about Slayde. It was like taking candy, dragon flavored candy, from a baby!
    Hopefully this helps anyone else! STRATEGY!!! NOT GRINDING!!!

      You never finished your comment. Also, you defeated Desaix that way? The sneaky part of this is getting the Draco Shield on Hard.

    • @maniacallyhappy
      @maniacallyhappy 7 років тому +2

      Hey Hero, yeah I was able to defeat Desaix on Hard Classic that way!
      Alm attacks x2, Gray attacks once from 3 spaces away, Python attacks x2, Tolbin attacks x2, Kliff attacks x2, Forsyth can attack x2, Faye can attack x2 (If she doesn't have to heal anyone) Lukas can attak x2 (If Desaix misses his attack) and Silque can attack x2 (if she doesn't have to heal Lukas or Gray).
      Normally with Clive and Slayde, the armored unit is attacking Clive and it blocks Slayde from even attacking Clive. Once Desaix is taken down, Slayde runs away, and the last unit to finish off is the Armored unit.
      A quick Diorama would be: # = Wall, AK = Armor Knight
      Slade
      ### AK ###
      Clive
      Faye
      Forsyth
      ###Desaix###
      Alm Lukas Kliff Tolbin
      Gray Silque Python
      I didn't include Clair because my Claire was made of Glass.
      Also, with Desaix being stuck between the 2 walls, he doesn't get the +20 avoid from the tile, helping everyone else land hits a lot more easily.
      This was the safest way that I could find to get the Dragon Shield from Desaix, aftewards my Grays Speed skyrocketed. He's currently a lvl 10 Myrmidon with his speed at 18, I gave him a pegasus cheese to get him to 20 and equipped him with the Dragon Shield, he's an absolute beast! Its almost game breaking how beast he is, 20+ defence and doubles almost everything with a speed of 10 with the dragon shield equipped. Gray is totally my spirit animal! lol

    This is way easier on Normal beyond reasons such as weaker/fewer enemies. All you need to do essentially is bait Slayde away to the right wall. I gave Claire the leather shield and drew him away and let everyone else deal with all the other enemy units. And the hilarious part is that Slayde will just stay put where you lured him as long as you don't go into his range. Desaix has 3 less HP and 2 less attack in normal as well. But this video is definitely handy for wanting to do it in Hard mode!

      Well, this reply is three years late, but whatever. Slayde will run away if and only if he can reach the supplies at the northern end of the map. This means you cannot block him in any way. The one tile entryway into the supply room cannot be blocked, the corridor south of where the archers were on the wall cannot be blocked (although you can avoid this by opening the other door on the opposite side of the map), the little courtyard just outside of the supply room cannot be blocked, and so on. If Slayde can reach the supplies, even in the most roundabout way, he will take it, otherwise he'll attack and probably kill himself.

  • @AussieBeef54099
    @AussieBeef54099 7 років тому +16

    What I would have done to improve this is to have both Lukas and Forsyth promoted to knights and have them box Dessaix between the small doorway before the supply area so he has a harder time damaging other units while remaining non-ranged units deal with enemies near the supplies.

    • @Constro
      @Constro 7 років тому +1

      Even if Forsyth isn't promoted, you can use Alm's defense and luck to tank the other side. This takes more turns, but it's much less risky as Forsyth may get crit and die. There's probably a way to avoid that using supports but I'm unsure if it would still require grinding which many people would rather avoid.

    • @Maxground600
      @Maxground600 7 років тому +1

      Alumchai I did this exact strategy and Forsyth had a 0% critical chance just as long as his supports were nearby, and the only grinding I did was making sure the two soldiers were promoted into knights which didn't take any time

    • @Constro
      @Constro 7 років тому +1

      Yeah I didn't do any grinding at all so I had base Forsyth at a non-zero crit rate. I believe it's his python support that gives crit dodge but I'm unsure what rank you need.
      I guess promoting Forsyth is an option it just probably isn't necessary especially since Alm can gain access to a ridiculous amount of provisions to help in healing himself if Faye is something other than a cleric for some reason, or to have one of the healers assist in killing Desaix to speed up the process.

    • @Maxground600
      @Maxground600 7 років тому

      Alumchai you only really need one healer if you don't attack with the people boxing him in, just heal whoever gets attacked. Also if you still have a crit chance on Forsyth just give him the leather shield and Desaix will attack Lucas since he can deal note damage that way

  • @MrPokemon907
    @MrPokemon907 4 роки тому +3

    I have/found a waaaaay simpler way of getting this done.
    *I used Faye and Clair to take out the archers at the east point (as flyer classes).
    *I used a flyer (it can be either or) to open the far east door.
    *I then used a flyer to bait out the cavalier-enemy troops - Keeping the flyer in range of the troops, whilst far enough to evade the chance of Slayde attacking.
    [Slayde LOVES to attack flyers, so he runs up to the flyer bait every time.
    With the flyer, I led Slayde all the way West-Up into the East point of the fortress and through the far east door
    *Meanwhile, I had all the other units move to the west and had Silque warp the tougher ones north West-past the upper west point of the fortress-right next to Desaix's supply hold (so as to get them ready for the attack on Desaix).
    *The door on the East was opened and Slayde was led into the range of my somewhat under leveled archer-Python-who stood right in the doorway to block off entry from Slayde,whilst keeping the distraction-battle going on.
    [Python and Slayde were at it-]
    I had Python at Level-Lv 13 and equipped with a Steel Bow.
    Missing enough with that Steel Bow to keep Slayde alive. I kept Shade close enough to continuously heal Python with her Physic.
    *Lukas, with his great Knight class defensive stats, stood at the entrance to Desaix's supply stronghold.
    I equipped 2 myrmidon class units with Lightning swords and placed the on either side of Lucas.
    [Damage from 3 units - whilst Slayde was blocked off and distracted at the far western door]
    It was risky for the flyers (especially Clair-since Clair was lower levelled), yet I had the flyers equipped with Javelins and join in on the attack on Desaix.
    ((Adding the flyers to the Desai onslaught is only optional-not mandatory from here))
    *This is the BIG part
    I then moved Silque up and behind Lucas-right in attack range of range of Desai. Sine the archers were already dealt with by the Javelin equipped flyers, Silque was safe from attack.
    *** Once Slayde is busily distracted with Python (outside of the far western door), Shade is there to heal Python and Silque in place to attack (right and safe behind Lucas), *the path to attaining the Draco shield is clear*
    [Get Silque to attack with-use her Seraphim - 3 hit points of damage at a time on Desaix and 9 when in critical + attacks from the other units and it is goal-Draco Shield soon enough]
    Have fun.
    Also. Make sure that you start the Desaix onslaught before the Slayde and Python battle starts.
    Both Slayde and Python can only take so much before things get dangerous.
    Make sure that Python is only an archer. Do not raise Python's class
    #Desaix runs if Slayde is taken down
    I gave the Draco shield to Silque. Silque is the only unit that I think NEEDS the Draco ⛨

    I took the shield with 0 grinding:
    2 Knights, Silque who warps your knight to behind Desaix, the other stays in front of him, and trap him in the small corridor between the supplies and the rest of the map.
    It's a grind game, but no biggie.
    Lukas and the green haired dude can wear shields.
    Let Slayde go for supplies in the upper part of the map, and bait Desaix down with one of your knights until he is in the small corridor where he can't go left or right, then warp your other knight behind him.
    Desaix will pound down on your knight, who might take around 9 damage if they're not too strong, but you can heal that off with just 1 cleric (silque)
    In the meantime Lukas + Iron shield will not be targeted, as the AI seems to prioritise the weaker unit (ie your other knight who can be healed by Silque) meaning only slayde (who is trapped) will try to attack whenever his HP gets high enough.
    From there, just have 2 archers hit him with steel bows, a lightningsword user, tobin with excal and clair with javelin (this will also keep slayde from hitting lukas as slayde will prefer chasing clair) for 10 damage without crits, or 12 damage if you can attack with your knight too (max health usually means you can get away with it, Desaix has like 2 crit chance anyways.)
    It takes a while, especially because of misses, but this strategy let's you beat desaix with only 1 requirement: Having 2 knights. Everything else is completely additional; as you only need Silque for this to work and unless you do a special run you will have her.
    Additionally it does help if you retreat, but it's not necessary. The caster is an issue as long as it's there, but taking it out (even if it takes long) means you basically got the shield.
    Probably not the best strategy in the world, but it worked for me (even though I lost once cause Lukas critted Slayde and I won/lost/desaix fled and battle ended since he was the last enemy); was super happy I managed to get the shield without any kind of guide :D

    So I did attempt this before on Normal difficulty (don't think that should matter but eh), baiting Slayde out with Clive and luring him away. Made sure I kept a route to the supplies spaces open for him. But... no matter what I did, Slayde kept pursuing Clive, even while as low as 4 HP. I even left the short route open for a turn, see if that got him to retreat, but it didn't. He just kept attacking Clive. I don't get it.
    On another note, the number of people recommending Foudroyant here kinda surprises me, because that basically tells me that a lot of people do grind pretty commonly.

    If you have the dlc: simply run through the inner sanctum until you find 2 shields of either silver or emperors from breaking pots. Lure out slayde, and trap in one of the 3 hallways between 2 people with shields. He will always attack 1 person and just have silque heal them occasionally. This required me not to grind literally at all, every unit was still their starting class, and yes this was on hard mode. It was so much easier and only took me like 3 minutes to find two shields in the jars.

    I just go to the right where I use clair to open the door. Kill the cavalry at the stairs (right at the end of their agro range. Get slade on the stairs and injure him. Put clair behind him and open the path the the long route. Then move in to kill the archers, mage and armour knight at range (thunderclap/bow) whilst juggling slade with clair (she can block both end with one move, so slade goes back and forth) Then lure dessaix to the left (Lukas with shield), down, right and u so that I've got the healing tiles and dessaix is blocking slade from reaching. This strategy doesn't require anything but a lukas being a knight (he has too little def otherwise.

  • @MegamanOmega184
    @MegamanOmega184 7 років тому

    I have another strategy that, while I need to test it a few more times for consistency in setup definitely worked flawlessly and was much simpler to pull off. It used a similar setup and strategy to what you did except it didn't involve kiting around Slayde.
    Only requirement I can definitely see it at least one Knight and Silque knowing Warp (second healer with physic is not necessary but is very preferred), then three other units that can survive a hit from Desaix. A second cleric and as many ranged healers as you can get is preferred to make your life easier, but just having one guy with the lightning sword and Python is minimally enough, because those two and whichever guy Desaix is attacking counterattacking him you'll be doing 6 damage to his healing of 5.
    Once you reach the point where the cavaliers and Slayde come out let Slayde attack someone (or attack Slayde) who'll deal a lot of damage to him but not kill him, that'l send him right back into the supply zone.
    Next, after he runs away send a unit one square just inside Desaix's maximum range (you want the empty square above him to be between those two pillars).
    Once he's baited out have Silque warp someone with high defense to the square above Desaix so he's now separated from the supplies and Slayde is trapped in there alongside the knight and a cavalier if you're lucky.
    Then just box in Desaix and keep wailing on him like in your video. So long as the guy who's keeping Slayde and friends in the supply box and Desaix outside is tankier than Desaix's other options to attack AND that that guy can hurt Slayde but not kill him Desaix will always attack the guy with the least defence. Not once did he turn around and attack the Knight I had positioned above him. However that parts consistency I need to check, I think enemy mooks moved before he did so I ended up in a long drawn out battle with that knight followed by the cavalier who would keep returning to heal more often than not rather than Slayde doing anything.

    What I did is lock him between that small room connecting to the heal tiles by putting my knight Forsyth and Baron Lukas in front of the exit tiles. While Slayde stayed to heal like an asshole, I made sure that Gray always traded the lightning sword to Silque so he would not kill Slayde. Then I spammed the ever loving shit out of excaliber from my Kliff, used tobin and python to spam arrows, Gray spammed lighting,Forsyth and Lukas counterattacked, and finally the fat bastard was dead in like 30 turns of squeezing him in. So yea, that was my strategy.

    this was absolutely miserable on hard even using the retreat cheese tip to clear out the map beforehand. I ended up slowly baiting delsaix to the left stairwell and trapping him with knight lucas below and myrmidon tobin up top. Silque healed tobin and he would occassionally dodge, delsaix only attacked tobin. then my two archers and alm with the lightning sword would just chip away at him.
    As for slayde, i baited him to the right with pegasus knight leather shield faye until he needed to retreat to heal, and then i would block off the left entrance with someone and have faye continually body block slayde from the middle or right entrance. he would never attack her because the ai would just redirect him to the other entrance first lol.
    i think i spent 6 hours trying to find out this solution hahhaha

    I have a small improvement to this strategy. After initially luring Desaix out, on the next turn you want to move him one space down. This way you can pin him between only two units, as well as the short wall on the sides. I pinned him in between Lukas and base Forsyth with a Leather Shield - the latter being the one Desaix kept attacking. Being able to pin him in like that allows for a unit that can't attack at range to continue manipulating Slayde's path to heals so you don't have to have a unit keeping him in the healing area. This would take a bit longer, perhaps, but it does mean you might be able to get the Dracoshield without Cleric Faye. At some point I did need to have Forsyth trade for a provision, then the person who he took it from would trade him the shield back, since he was taking more damage than he would be healed for.
    I did like how you manipulated Slayde, since you needed less units to lure him out than I used. I ended up luring him into the middle then using like 4 or 5 units above him to block his escape back to heals. I managed to get him running around the outside of the castle though, which was pretty funny.

  • @nin10doadict
    @nin10doadict 7 років тому

    My initial problem was that I overgrinded, making it nearly impossible to take out Desaix before Slayde killed himself. My solution was that I hadn't leveled up Python at all. I first destroyed as many enemies as I could with Sniper Tobin, then had Python with the Leather Shield lure Slayde over to the stairs on the right side with Faye behind him to heal him. Python's hit chance was pathetic and he would only deal 2 damage, but would only take 2x3 in return (though I did get 1% critted once but that's no big deal because you can still live a crit).
    Alm and his chip crew lured Desaix out to the left and Lukas choked him at the point. With everybody chipping away and Lukas throwing Armorbreakers from the Steel Lance, Desaix went down with little trouble. I did this on Normal, but I feel like it could be done on Hard as well, maybe with some adjustments. The nice thing about this strat is that it doesn't require Warp, though there isn't really any reason that you shouldn't have it by this point anyway.
    Then again, maybe this wouldn't work on higher difficulties because Slayde moves earlier on Hard...

    This sounds a _lot_ like how I dealt with Tatarah whilist trying not to kill Delthea.
    Only instead of a cavalier, I used Clair, just flying into and out of the tower so she'd just run in circles going after clair and then my army as Gray and Python do chip damage from out of range (Tatarrah already nearly killed Clair so I was scared to let anyone into his range).
    Eventually I won.
    2nd time arou d sge almost immediately teleported, so I put Luthier in front of the supplies and had Alm use Subdue. So she was too low on health to actually attack and she couldn't heal, so she just sat there and did nothing.

    For some reason (could just be because I play on standard, not hard so the ai is more "stupid") Slayde would try to go through my merc and paladin instead of going the long way back to the supplies. I repeated a few times with the same results so I decided to try a different tactic. I went through the same steps until where you have to lure slyde, and using my paladin and claire, I lured him onto the upper area where the bowmen used to be and then immediately got out of his circle. then he just kinda sat there, so long as -no one- entered his area. Then I was free to chip off desaix's health until he dies (not really, but I got the shield and that's what was important. HA).

  • @SystemeticVG
    @SystemeticVG 7 років тому

    Why not just trap him in the second wall south of the provisions? He'll only target one of the two people you use to block him, so as long as you keep Silque on that side of the wall you'll always be able to heal even if you don't have Faye as a cleric. Both this position and the one you showed leave him on tile, so there's not an actual terrain advantage. Putting him here means you only need the two knights to block him off, which isn't difficult given that you should have warp at this point. Either knight should have enough defense to take 2-3 hits before dying, which gives Silque/Faye more time for dealing damage, making it slightly faster.

    not bad, but I used IGN's guide to do it, and tended to like it a bit more, this still looked good

    The real quick and easy route: Alm/Celica Amiibo. They retain the stats and abilities of the Alm/Celica written on them, regardless of your progress. So you can just send a max level Alm from a completed save at Desaix and make the rest of the game a lot easier for you.

    What I did for this was trap Slayde in the healing zone by blocking the exit with Forsyth and healing him with Faye, then just get to a safe spot like the stairs so Desaix hits just 1 unit and you can hit him with other, I had 2 archers, 1 mage, Alm and Silk hitting him per round, went pretty smooth (it was on hard mode without any tier 2 class or grind).

    I did everything like u said, but Slayde always seems to engage my Paladin instead of leaving for the long way, and I didn't even block the long way, and ends up killing himself. What gives?

    I tried this, but Slayde kept killing himself, so I tried something else. I just used Tobin to kill the units on the sides. I then killed Slayde’s men and let Slayde get supplies. I rushed to the centre and got Desaix to the choke point in between the supplies and the rest of the map. I used Silque to warp Lucas (who was a knight) to trap Desaix at that point I had Kliff at the front, blocking Desaix. I had my magic users and Lightning Sword Alm around them to attack. Python was around 4 spaces back (because I gave him an Iron Bow). I had Faye behind Silque to Physic. I used my magic users and Python to damage him. I also started to have Silque use Nosferatu to do extra damage as well.

    The baiting slyde out is not necessary, just damage him normally and he will retreat

    For some reason, the enemy units do not chase me unless I'm in their range. Even after I engaged one enemy, the cavaliers up above don't move. And when I eventually hit Slayde enough to reach low hp, he won't flee to heal.
    I'm so confused

      That seems to be the case in Normal. From reading the comments, there's some other methods that can help.

    I didn't use the trade strat with the Lightning Sword. I just gave it to Gray and he did his part in chipping at Desaix. When he had only around 12 HP left, Gray mastered Foundrayt (or however its spelled) on the Lightning Sword. I used this on Desaix when Desaix had only 1 HP left as a fuck it attack, but it turns out that it did 10 HP to Desaix, so grinding out for Foundrayt to take out 1/4 of Desaix's health in one attack is pretty good. A healer can probably just heal out the 8 HP penalty for using it.

    Nooo I over grinded to help with previous levels. What do I do now? I get through all of slade's men on the opposing's turn. When Slade attacks me I do damage enough to put him into his "healing AI"

    I have some problems
    First. The caveleirs and slayde don't all charge. Also when I isolate slayde in the tower. He keeps atacking Clive and dying instead of taking the long route. The door is open.

      Ok so I tried again. Again slayde didn't charge again. And this time he tacked gray and died instead of retreating
      What am I doing wrong?
