Thank you for this. Curious if the Hue Strips would work just about the same as you get a much longer light for a lot less money. Do you know of any much more affordable alternatives to Philips Hue that offer this kind of directional light control?
Hey mate yes the Hue Strips will work fine as well, this method works for any kind of Philips Hue Light product. I believe the closest thing to Philips Hue Lights is the Govee products, they are supported by simhub and are cheaper
Great video but I’d like to see this whole exact setup going through some tunnels or street lights on AC or similar stuff in ATS. As that’s where you’re going to notice them the most because most races are just plain daylight races in ACC or iracing , etc.
It works great in tunnels etc :) Infact in that night time footage at the end. You can see where I drive Under the green start light at speed it actually picks the green colour up! So yes it’s very impressive
Amazing! It looks like you cracked the code to setting these up properly. Now with that being said when we’re switching cars and we want to select new capture points and areas, can we still select a hot key? Relatively because every single car is capture point and area differentiates as well as the time of day you want different capture areas for these points. Forgive me if I missed it, but is there a hot key that you can set for each individual screen via Sim hub or do you have to go back into Sim hub and switch it out every time of day and every vehicle?awesome video as always bro
Hey bro, I believe if you go to the controls tab on that screen there should be a similar key binding UI to the dash template screen? I can confirm for you tonight, the feature is still new and missing some quality of life stuff (no button yet to swap entertainment areas. But the simhub creator is working hard to make new feature for it since it’s been received so well!
@@alexkayracing that was it. I was missing one version. Quick question though. I have two lights above my middle screen but when filming with a GoPro, you can see the lights and reflection a little bit. Would love to see how you film to get lights out of video when you make a video!
Sorry, my English is not very good and I don't know if you said it in the video or not. After doing all the configuration in SIMHUB, for the lights to work with the new defined areas, do I have to start the synchronization in the Philips HUE APP? or does SIMHUB take care of everything?
Can you explain that you have triple screens but why SimHub shows only one screen there ? I'm using NV surround on PC and also choosed NV surround in SimHub but it also shows me only one separate screen. I saw the video where one guy has a 3 separate screens in SimHub. I'm very confused. Using Govee light bar.
If you have the latest version of simhub there is now a “capture” tab in that ambient lights menu. It will allow you to select “multiple” screens which lets you seperate all 3 screens in that interface.
Great video man. I set this up last week. Works well with all sims but stops with iRacing for some reason. Will try Nvidia surround and see if that fixes the issue
This doesn't work for me either. I once tried to place a window on the pit limiter for night racing. But the Hue lamp didn't change to green. You still have to deactivate it in the Hue app. Otherwise I did everything like in your video. And once again a great video, great work.
@@Plan_B72 you no longer need to use the hue sync pc app with this method! You only have to open it in sim hub now. That’s probably why this is happening
Is there any way to do this without setting up an entertainment area in the hue app? I have a bunch of non-Hue RGB zigbee lights connected to my Hue hub and i can control the colours of these lights just fine myself in the Hue app. The problem is the hue sync app in windows doesn't allow me to do anything without creating an entertainment area. And i can't create an entertainment area in the app unless i have official Philips Hue RGB bulbs... OpenRGB can control these lights just fine without the Hue Sync app or using entertainment areas. I wish simhub had a plugin for OpenRGB as that would create a much more powerful way to control lights.
Hey mate thanks for watching, as far as I know Simhub requires an entertainment area to be chosen in order to control the HUE lights specifically. Maybe in the future the sim hub creator will offer more open ended control as he’s always improving the program
Apologies mate I’m an idiot I thought you asked what monitor mounts I used. I got the 3D printed ones from Etsy, there should be a link to them in the video description for you👍 I bought the pack that gives 2 long and 2 short mounts
@Alex Kay, First of all thanks for bringing up this solution for the Hue lights. I have a question regarding the setup options. I use the triple screen method but without Nvidia surround. How can I get the light input from my side "windows" (screens)?
Hey mate I believe there is a new feature in the latest update that lets you preview your triple screens now even if you don’t use nvidia surround! I however have not been able to test it as I am currently busy making the new ACC GT2 showcase video. When I get a chance I will take a look!
@@alexkayracing It disconnects from sim hub and the boxes that you use to place where the light source is to pickup don't light up red when clicking on them unless I disable and re-enable and seconds later it disconnects. The bridge in general stays connected the normal way. It seems to lose it after starting ACC.
Sorry to hear this mate I’m not sure what that issue could be to be honest. Maybe a stability issue, I would say check back on simhub whenever it gets updated etc and see if the problem gets fixed from updates
Hi there, thank you for your tutorial, but I have a problem that I can't resolve. impossible for me to activate the “freeze capture” mode in simhub, I cannot follow the tutorial to the end. thank you in advance for your help. 🏎️😊
Thanks for watching! Could you please explain why it won’t let you enable the freeze capture mode in Simhub? Is it because you cannot see the button or for another reason? Thanks
I think it's because a SImhub update. After i saw this video 2 weeks ago i setup my Hue bars like in the video with "freeze capture". But now that option isn't available instead There's "Pause capture" and "Pause with Time" both will do the job.
Thanks a lot for this video. One question: until now I had the positioning via the Hue PC/Mobile App; do I need to delete that setup first before trying the new method via SimHub? Thanks
Thanks for the video Alex. Do the lights turn off automatically when you are out of the sim or turn the pc off? Or is a manual process each time? I know this option exists within the Hue PC app. TIA
Hey bro thanks for watching. At the moment no it does not turn the hue lights off when you turn the PC off. The feature is still very new (only couple days old) so in the future more stuff like that will come :)
What is dark scene and light scene... mine is set on auto and its always dark scene selected .....the gamma corection is all way down... and edit dection area is for each box or ??? And if i set bottom in phillip hue app... is the bottom too in simhub???
I have not played with the dar/night mode yet but gamma I leave as the default, going higher makes the colour darker, lower makes it brighter. When you use simhub you cannot use the Philips hue app at the same time, only one :)
Anny Recommandation on the time and track on iracing for best results? I tried 7 am like you mentioned on your older video but i can`t get annything good ... especialy on monza. Good video by the way!
I currently use a streamdeck/hotkey to activate the hue sync windows app (start sync). Can you use keyboard shortcuts to activate simhub hue profiles in the same way? Great vid thanks. 😊
Hey mate I have yet to check this feature but I saw there is a “controls” tab which if my guess is correct will be the same as the one for the dash templates. So yes you should be able to do that :)
Hey Alex, what about the settings for device brightness and color gamma correction that are associated with each of the lights loaded into sim hub? I can't find anyone who can explain the proper settings for this? Thank you!
Hey mate thanks for watching, in the video footage there I used just the default so even that looks really good! When I get a chance to test these out in detail I will make another video on them. What I have noticed with brightness though is that the % in simhub goes higher than the one in the sync app. So 150% in simhub would be equal to 100% in the hue sync app. So if you used to use a certain percentage For example I used 75% usually in my videos with sync app, I had to make it about 100 - 105% in the sim hub app.
@@alexkayracing thanks for the quick response! I’ve been trying for a couple of months now to try and alter the color gamma and determine the best settings for day and night tracks. Also, it would be great to see how you would set up a F1 car in Assetto or anywhere else to see how you would best place the lights in an open wheel set up. Thanks again!
I use a go pro! The key is having enough light in the cockpit so that you can have your cameras ISO setting all the way down to minimum, that will remove the washed out appearance
Hey mate, because the simhub software lets you place exactly on the screen where your lights take the colour from, you can make the boxes as small or as large as you like. The pc app is much harder to use and setup
Hello Alex im from Bavaria Im a great Fan from you. Your Rig is so beautyfull. Your Windownet how do you make it ??? The Side on the right Side how do you make it? Do you have a Video to help me and others😊 Sorry for my Bad English Grettings from A new Simracer from Bavaria Mike
I can use with Pc and iPhone apps, I can select the air of interest through the app on iPhone and it can enter it on Hue sync, but if I go to sim hub I don’t see my bridge
My question was Sim hub and Phillips hue is instead of using them as ambient lights. Is there a way to just have flag lights with Sam hub? That's what I'm after with my hue lights. It's just strictly flag lights that will stay on the current flag at all times. Meaning, if the green flag is out, the light stays green until the yellow comes out and when the yellows out it stays yellow until the green comes out whatever the track state may be
That’s a good question mate. I think that the way you could do that here is have something like a flag overlay on your screen “there’s plenty on simhub for that” and then drag the box for the light around that flag indicator (you would obviously make sure it’s on the screen when you take your screenshot) That should solve your problem!
Mate, you are the best. This is an amazing tutorial. Much appreciated sir. Question: why are you placing the lights in the app basically ontop of eachother? Why not at the left or right side in front of the screen when using two lights. I'm a bit puzzled by this.
Hey mate do you mean on the phone app or the simhub app? The phone app light placement doesn’t matter anymore as Simhub controls this now, so that lights just have to be in the entertainment area and that’s it. For the Simhub app, you can definitely put one light on the left and one on the right if you want (I think one of the methods I showed was this) A reason I mentioned putting them ontop of eachother is that sometimes having your left light light up and not your right can be distracting for some people (for example those who might suffer from epilepsy etc.) so it’s more comfortable on the eyes to have all your lights behaving the same way at all times. This of course is completely up to you! Start playing with the light placement and find your favourite 😁
@@alexkayracing thank you for your reply. I indeed referred to the phone app. I can't get used to calling Windows software 'apps'. I'm probably too old 🤣 I had a go at simhub and it did work. Unfortunately i can't get the preview window big enough for precise selecting. But in the end i will make it work. Thanks again for your tutorial. 🙏🏻
@@YoastZilla yep on the phone app you don’t have to worry about that anymore! That was the way I found worked best after a lot of testing. But now this way using simhub makes that old way with the phone app redundant:) so now you can just put them wherever you want in that phone app it doesn’t matter there now.
You might experience some changes if you have car movement enabled in game, but give it a try and see if you like it or not cos the changes shouldn’t be too drastic
@@alexkayracing Could you show me how? Been trying to figure that out all day. When I do the in-car screenshot, simhub only see my middle monitor since it's not N-Surround.
@@JGW5000 no problem mate, I’m sure in future updates of the simhub app it’ll enable non surround capture, it’s one of the more popular requests from what I’ve seen
Do have one question. I'm currently running ACC, at Zolder at night but when the street lights hit the dash nothing is changing? Am i missing something?
@@AdamKaylor keep playing around with the placement, you might have to put your lights where the light is touching your cars A-pillar (depending if you can see it if you’re using triple screen) Two lights is harder for night time because you might have to make a specific profile just for night time driving, due to only having 2 lights
I have a triple monitor setup that's supported natively by Assetto Corsa and I'd like my side lights to reflect the image in my side monitors. It looks like there's no way to get SimHub to pay attention to my side monitors without using Nvidia Surround. Is that correct or is there a way to sync to the side monitors without Nvidia Surround?
Hey brother with the latest version of simhub I believe there’s a capture area tab or something like that? Check that and see if it lets you use your non-surround triple setup! But at the time of me making this video, no there was no support for non-surround triple setups sorry
@@alexkayracing yes, it’s camera that faces your screen and picks up the color. There’s a bit of delay and the color accuracy probably isn’t the best but it gets you 90 percent of the way there and it’s much simpler to install. Also you don’t need to run all that extra software
@@RaftorAvila yeah it’s definitely a cheaper option which is good cos it gives some choices to customers, the colour accuracy on the hue lights with simhub is crazy good
It definitely is better than the hue sync app in most cases. You get complete control over where your lights take the colour from, compared to the sync app which uses a “range” to decide which colour to display. You also get a way faster response time from the lights, even when travelling at high speed the lights will catch a colour even if it only appears for a split second
@@alexkayracing thanks! How can i choose triple screen in simhub? In tje settings i can only capture the default monitor or just 1 of 3 screen so i can't use the triple screenshot
@@DjCamme98 there was a new update for simhub which may have enabled this but I haven’t had time to check yet, but download the latest update and have a look! If it doesn’t then yes you will need to enable nvidia surround for your triples to get that triple screen preview, if not then use the simple method that I mentioned here.
@@alexkayracing so i have to enable nvidia surround just for the settings then turn back to "normal" ad simhub will works? No further update for light in simhub, i use it normally for basshakers
@@DjCamme98 no you will have to keep nvidia surround on if you want to use that complex method I mentioned, but honestly the simple method is fine there’s still plenty of places to take like from in your centre monitor👍
What colour settings is everyone using? There's the device brightness, colour gamma correction, minimum colour, and the luminosity gamma correction. Particularly wondering what the minimum colour refers to. The rest is pretty much self explanatory.
These are all new toys that I will have to take time to test mate! In the video I had everything set to standard and the brightness at 100%. I think that brightness slider might be a bit off. Like as in, I feel like 150% on simhub might be the same as 100% on the hue sync app. So for for example I usually use about 80% on the hue sync app, so 100% seemed the same for me on sim hub. Gamma correction and greyscale etc. I’ll have to take some time to play with all these :)
@@Matt-hw6so so far from testing I found that reducing the gamma to 0.5 will make the lights a lot brighter and less saturated which is great👍 I’m still trying to understand the other stuff
You can use your existing one. I can run Hue app one minute and then swap over to the Simhub setup the next. You just can't run them at the same time, Hue app will have a warning that it's syncing to Simhub.
Hey mate yes the above comment is correct you can use the same bridge just not at the same time! In fact, once you have your lights all set up and working on simhub, you can actually delete the hue light PC app from your system if you like! The phone app needs to stay though. Thanks again for your kind words, I believe I saw one of your videos the other night, keep up the great work 👍
@alexkayracing what do you mean by 'not at the same time'? Does it mean that when I have my Hue lights on in my house, I cannot use simhub syncing with the hue lights on my rig?
@@frankvanderheide I am not sure about that one as I only use hue lights for my rig not around the house. But basically the bridge can only be suing “sync mode” on one system at a time. I believe you can turn other hue lights on manually though, just not running in sync mode

Hey I’m following along here but I don’t have ambient lighting plugin in simhub. How do I get that?
You have to update to the latest version of sim hub. Then enable the plugin in the settings menu

Simhub takes care of everything, you don’t need the hue app anymore!
@alexkayracing I'll check it out and let you know if I get it work.
Great video man. I set this up last week. Works well with all sims but stops with iRacing for some reason. Will try Nvidia surround and see if that fixes the issue
Let me know how you go mate cos I’ve only tried it with ACC so far! Thanks for watching 🙏
This doesn't work for me either. I once tried to place a window on the pit limiter for night racing. But the Hue lamp didn't change to green. You still have to deactivate it in the Hue app. Otherwise I did everything like in your video. And once again a great video, great work.
Hey mate sorry this didn’t work for you, if you would like some extra help trying to set it up let me know 👍 thanks for watching!
Could it be because I have the game setting active in the Hue Sync on the PC for e.g. Iracing, AMS2?

Hi Alex, is the an eight light limit, and if not how would I add lights that are already attached to the respective hub. Thanks!
Hey mate I have not actually checked that! How many lights are you using on your system? I am only using 4
Is there any way to do this without setting up an entertainment area in the hue app?
Hey m8 , great vid. I seem to have a very similar setup screen wise , what size light mounts did you use? Cheers
Thanks mate glad it could help. I believe I’m using the standard aluminium profile mounts for them, 34” I believe?

@Alex Kay, First of all thanks for bringing up this solution for the Hue lights. I have a question regarding the setup options. I use the triple screen method but without Nvidia surround. How can I get the light input from my side "windows" (screens)?
Hey mate I believe there is a new feature in the latest update that lets you preview your triple screens now even if you don’t use nvidia surround! I however have not been able to test it as I am currently busy making the new ACC GT2 showcase video. When I get a chance I will take a look!

So if you used to use a certain percentage
For example I used 75% usually in my videos with sync app, I had to make it about 100 - 105% in the sim hub app.
@@alexkayracing thanks for the quick response! I’ve been trying for a couple of months now to try and alter the color gamma and determine the best settings for day and night tracks.
I think that the way you could do that here is have something like a flag overlay on your screen “there’s plenty on simhub for that” and then drag the box for the light around that flag indicator (you would obviously make sure it’s on the screen when you take your screenshot)
That should solve your problem!
For the Simhub app, you can definitely put one light on the left and one on the right if you want (I think one of the methods I showed was this)
A reason I mentioned putting them ontop of eachother is that sometimes having your left light light up and not your right can be distracting for some people (for example those who might suffer from epilepsy etc.) so it’s more comfortable on the eyes to have all your lights behaving the same way at all times.
This of course is completely up to you! Start playing with the light placement and find your favourite 😁
@@alexkayracing thank you for your reply. I indeed referred to the phone app. I can't get used to calling Windows software 'apps'. I'm probably too old 🤣
I had a go at simhub and it did work.
Does this only work when you have your cockpit steady? I'm driving with the horizon locked, so the dashboard goes up and down.
You might experience some changes if you have car movement enabled in game, but give it a try and see if you like it or not cos the changes shouldn’t be too drastic

I like the Govee back screen lights , it’s just a camera
Is that the one that used a webcam device to determine the colours right?
@@alexkayracing yes, it’s camera that faces your screen and picks up the color.
There’s a bit of delay and the color accuracy probably isn’t the best but it gets you 90 percent of the way there and it’s much simpler to install. Also you don’t need to run all that extra software
@@RaftorAvila yeah it’s definitely a cheaper option which is good cos it gives some choices to customers, the colour accuracy on the hue lights with simhub is crazy good
is this solution worth more the sync app? why i should change form the philips app to simhub for this?
It definitely is better than the hue sync app in most cases. You get complete control over where your lights take the colour from, compared to the sync app which uses a “range” to decide which colour to display.
You also get a way faster response time from the lights, even when travelling at high speed the lights will catch a colour even if it only appears for a split second
