A little trick I done to the rocker cover just to make it look abit tidier is the tabs that hold the hoses I got some wide heat shrink and put over them as my paint cracked folding them in and out 👌🏼
Superb video, I love that it reminds me of when I look at a deisel engine or ute as a deisel mechanic and understand your videos, also you'll have to do a video on your technique of painting, its narly 🤟
Can use a dial indicator instead of a feeler gauge and it'll take into account the recess in the rocker. Bit harder to set up, but give you better results
those rocker cover bolts and washers will leak. i have done the same and you need some rubber washers from bunnings on both the bottom of the washer and inbetween the washer and the bolt. :DDD
Exhaust mani paint wont stay like that bro, it will be rusty cast in no time after a few heat cycles and some condensation, ceramic coat is the go for the next best thing with added benefit.
Well Tom, that's about the shodiest thing I've ever seen you do, you normally take so much pride in getting it smick, "just paint it all black, alternator and all". Can't see that exhaust manifold paint lasting past the first hill climb, yes these things get hot as you pointed out. When you stop it'll have smoke pouring out the 76 bonnet scoop. I had a poorly fitted dump pipe, kept snapping secondary mounting points on block bolt, so arranged to take it back to refit system again. Whilst they resolve the issue, they elected to repaint the whole system again, just to impress us. We head off, stopped for coffee, you'd swear the GU's on fire, smoke pouring out of guard, bonnet scoop, initially shit ourselves, then laughed it off as it looked so funny. Looking forward to seeing it done mate, I actually like ya work.
I find it interesting that you are going to turbocharge an engine that has already covered over an impressive 400k km's with rebuild, and that was not originally designed to be used with turbocharging. Turbocharging adds a great deal of stress (heat, load). I know it is pretty common to modify old TD42's with turbocharging, but I cannot help thinking this is where a lot of the overheating issues originate. When a manufacturer designs an engine from scratch, they will know whether it will be turbocharged or not. So many factors are considered from a total system viewpoint, piston design, combustion design, bearing journal load (all base engine design), combustion temperatures, exhaust temperatures, fuelling quantity, injection timing, cooling packs, the list is endless. It says a lot about the robustness of the TD42 base engine design that it can be done successfully without serious internal engine modifications. I think the cooling system if often overlooked.
Definitely make the intercooler piping Ron Burgundy
All alloy piping with plazmaman clamps all in burgundy no silicone Joiners
I like how you had no music or sound while you were pulling things apart, little bit of ASMR right there 👌🏼
Set your valve clearance with a dial gauge on the top of the rocker arm, not ideal but will get you out of trouble
Awesome idea! Thanks mate 👌👌
Been so keen for this video. Would definitely be interested in a video of fixing up the rockers.
I’m a 79 guy but the way your patrols turn out makes me wanna do a patrol wagon build. Nice work mate 🍻

Good way to polish them would be shoelaces should work thats how i polish my spokes for my dirt bike
Can’t wait to see it all done
Looks mad mate can’t wait to see it in action 👍🏽
cant tell you how fast i clicked on this vid
👌👌👌
keen to see ron burgundy on the tracks!

Looks great 😍
Pull the rocker shaft off assembled and take it to your local engine machine shop and get them to face the pads bro! 👌
Excited to see it running
Donk looks neat now, mate. Yes keen to see the turbo setup👍
Keen to see the turbo setup, only thing is with the black paint makes it harder to locate leaks and stuff, great video loving the build 😊
Good job brother 👍👍👍

Nice video mate 🤙🤙🤙
You should do your Welch plugs before you put back in
use td42 turbo exhaust gaskets, they are mls
Are you going to run a fuel pump? Also where is the exhaust manifold from? Build is looking superb.

15-20 psi tapped out? yeah definitely goes a lot more than that on the old silver tops
When I saw the gq, don't ask how quickly I clicled on it. Also can it be an Arashi 18g turbo please amd for the rear bar, the pattol docta bar 🙏
Did someone say new video on Ron Burgundy 🔥
Silverpop. 10mm can easily run 15-20psi intercooled 😂 slap a 12mm and a big old hx35 or spend the coin on a ufi big boi
When are you going to start the td42
That pump will run out of fuel as soon as you start adding fuel being a non boost comp 10 mm
Rattle can rebuild
Where do u get those bolts u use for the rocker cover?
Kaaaauteee
Are you putting a bush rap on it?
Don’t need it when all it will be doing is Bunnings runs.

Thats alot of ks on an Na to be putting a turbo on low boost ya mite be right
Fuck moi I forgot you have a motor for the car😂
Surely it gets a sternal
My patrol has done almost 220 000km
Do we take a shot everytime you say 440,000kms?
